Converted Mill in Treviades, Nr. Constantine, Cornwall, England - Peaceful Location, Very Close To The Helford River
About Carol Cross
David and Carol Cross are the lucky owners of Treviades Melyn. We currently live in Dorset, with 3 miniature dachshunds who love visiting Cornwall as much as we do.
Carol Cross purchased this Barn in 2007
Why Carol Cross chose Constantine
David went to school in Cornwall and his family live there, so when the opportunity arose of having our own place, we jumped at it. Even in its derelict state this building was magnificent. The renovation project was 2 years in the planning and building, but we recently finished in the summer of 2009. We've taken a huge amount of care in transforming this wonderful building into a comfortable home and are looking forward to making it our permanent home as soon as we can give up our day jobs. Until that time arrives, we'll share it with you.
What makes this Barn unique
We find the house and area very calming and relaxing. Looking out at the 180 degree view of fields and the Helford River you feel a million miles away from the bustle of every day life. But it's a very convenient location to reach civilization quickly. In the summer it's just wonderful to laze in the sun on the very private terrace, or go out on a boat on the river and explore the tiny coves. Equally in the winter, there's nothing better than lighting the log burner and settling down to a good film.

Outstanding property in beautiful setting
A fantastic home from home in stunning Cornwall. The house and gardens are maintained to high standards and exceeded all our expectations. There was excellent communication with the property owners, and flexibility to accommodate all of our requirements really enhanced our stay. The house is set in beautiful countryside but is close to some gorgeous beaches for surfing or exploring. All in all you could not ask for more.
Absolutely stunning with fantastic views. Lots to explore for everyone - 3 generations. The house was extremely well equipped and the owners have provided plenty of information regarding local facilities. A really beautiful holiday home.
The house and its gardens lived up to all our expectations. The whole house is furnished to an exceptional standard and the views are stunning. Throughly recommended for a relaxing holiday.
A paradise in Cornwall
A wonderful property with a fantastic garden. We enjoyed our stay tremendously.
Altough the property is located "remotely", all sights in Southern Cornwall are reachable within an hours drive.
This is a perfect place for a large group or family. Big bedrooms, loads of space in the open plan downstairs, huge garden. The house has been finished to a very high standard and has everything you could need. The location is stunning, countryside all around and a 20 minute walk to Porth Navas. Very helpful owners with easy communication. A great base for exploring the Helford and Lizard areas and a lovely house to relax in. Highly recommended.
Beautiful and spacious
This beautiful property provided everything that we were looking for. We were three generations holidaying together but the house worked really well giving us all our own privacy and space but plenty of large rooms where we could all come together.
The welcome basket including Carols home made marmalade (which was delicious) was a lovely touch. The overall location worked very well for us, with the beautiful beaches of the Lizard, gardens and grocery shopping close by .
The gardens and views were stunning and the house contained all the bits and bobs that we required, including a great selection of books and DVDs etc.
Throughout this review I have referred to house and property but it actually felt like our home for a week, I would love to come back.
Special interest holidays:
For sailors, the Helford river is approx a mile away. There is a public slipway in Port Navas that can be used free of charge, however the creek does dry out, so check the tide times. Boats can be hired from Helford (a short drive away) on an hourly, daily or weekly basis. Alternatively, you're welcome to bring your own boat as there's plenty of room to park a trailer. Being situated close to the South West Coast Path, the property is ideal for walking holidays, and dogs are welcome here.
The Helford River has many unspoilt, tiny beaches that can only be accessed easily by boat. All along the south coast of Cornwall there are sheltered coves, ancient creeks and palm trees. Falmouth has many family friendly beaches, around 7 miles away. If you want to have a go at surfing, we recommend you visit the north side of Cornwall, it’s a trip of about 30 miles. A total contrast with long sandy beaches that are more exposed and can be windy.
Newquay airport is around 45 minutes drive away and has regular flights from many different airports. Alternatively the train from London Paddington is direct to Truro which is around 25 minutes away or you can change and get off at Penryn station which is, at most 15 minutes away.
Port Navas – less than a mile.
Constantine – 1.5 miles.
Mawnan Smith (Trebah and Glendurgan Gardens)– 2.5 miles.
Falmouth – (The National Maritime Museum) 6 miles.
Helston – 7 miles.
Truro – 12.5 miles.
St Ives – (The Tate) 27 miles.
St Austell – (The Eden Project) 27 miles.
Newquay – 27.5 miles.
Lands End – 30 miles.
There really is something for everyone at this location. The South Cornwall coast has its own micro-climate thanks to the warming balm of the Gulf Stream. This means early springs and long lingering summers ideal for outside activities. Together with sailing and walking, there is a very good riding stables close by. The famous exotic gardens of Trebah and Glendurgan that stand next door to each other are under two miles away, together with the National Seal Sanctuary at Gweek, The National Maritime Museum at Falmouth and many other visitor attractions such at The Tate at St Ives and The Eden Project at St Austell.
Constantine is the closest village and has two good local stores, a post office and cash point. There are many pubs and restaurants within a few miles of the property.
