About Janice Scheve
I have lived in Texas my entire life. My husband and I have settled down here in South Texas to enjoy the country, our cows, the wildlife and our grandchildren. We have a few acres and a home about a mile from Pearl's Place. Please also check out our vacation rental in Chappell Hill, TX, called "Emily's Post". No pictures yet but you won't be disappointed. It will be available starting mid October, 2016 and sleeps 6+.
Janice Scheve purchased this Chateau / Country House in 2008
Why Janice Scheve chose Washington
This 1970s house was in much need of repair when I saw it but the surroundings were perfect. Bonus is that it is only one mile from where we live. The setting was beautiful and with lots of TLC we restored it to a homey, welcoming place. For a few years we rented it out as a rent house but in January 2016 I decided to put it on the market as a vacation rental. This home is only used as a vacation rental. No long-term lease, therefore, the amenities and supplies are there for you as a vacation renter only and are no one's hand-me-downs. Everything is fresh and clean.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
Lots of parking and room to roam. Quiet country privacy on a paved road. Amenities of a hotel, from luxury linens, right down to the wine bottle opener. This cottage is not someone else's weekend place...it is specifically a vacation rental and great thought and care has been put into making sure everything you need is provided. Nature surrounds you. The locked gate and extended driveway is on a paved farm-to-market road that allows easy access and privacy at the same time. Enjoy your coffee and the sunrise in the morning on the deck, or a nice dinner in the evening, or go down to the pond. The deck faces east so you can watch the sunrise and also be protected from the sun for evening grilling. If you prefer to go to a local restaurant, you can enjoy the fire pit when you return. The inside of this cottage is a bit of a surprise when you open the door. Perfectly appointed kitchen, and all sheets are very high-count cotton. Bath towels are large and thirsty and the full bath has a marble tile floor. House is completely stocked with whatever you will need (except food and drink) for your stay and extremely clean. A few bottles of water and several K-Cups of coffee to get you started are provided. Front-loading washer/dryer in the large laundry room. Deck faces the sunrise. Central HVAC, Satellite TV and Wi-Fi. Locked, gated, gravel drive has plenty of parking space for several vehicles.

Very peaceful country setting, house is very nice and clean. Three cows in the pasture love to have a stare off with you, and a donkey that will talk to you, if you talk his language first😂!! Enjoyable stay, we would do it again!
It was exactly as it was described
Nice place with a fire pit. Had some nice fires and enjoyed the evenings sitting around and cooking out.
Relaxing, inviting, clean crisp white sheets and towels.... a great gateaway. The herb garden was such a nice treat especially since I needed a fresh herb or two. Nice extra touches - water for the coffee, gloves to wash dishes, makeup removal towels, etc.... It's the little touches that made us feel welcomed and relax. Thank you.
It's Truely a home away from home. Very comfortable and the hospitality is second to none. I highly recommend this place.
Thank you. Please come again!
Charming, clean, peaceful retreat
My husband and I spent a recent weekend at Pearl's Place. Instead of doing one big trip to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary, we are taking several trips around the state to enjoy 30 Uniquely Texas Things. After spending time at the Blue Bell Creamery, Washington-on-the-Brazos, and Hermann's Furniture Store (the oldest family-owned furniture store in TX), it was so lovely to come back to Pearl's Place to rest and relax in a well-kept, clean home. And our dogs loved the fully-fenced yard! We really enjoyed our time at Pearl's Place and encourage others to visit--it will be worth your time and effort! Janice was very easy to work with and available whenever we had a question about something.
Charming country cottage
Our family of 6 (5 adults + my 1-yr-old grandson) arrived at Pearl's Place late Sunday night and only stayed one night. It was a stop-over on a road trip to Galveston, but I would have loved to have had the chance to stay longer and explore the area. The house is very cozy and inviting. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen is beautifully renovated and well stocked. It's in a rural area....very pretty countryside...rolling hills, trees, cows...enjoyed the drive! Great vegetable garden in the back yard!
Janice was wonderful to work with. She left champagne in the fridge (unfortunately we got in so late we went straight to bed!) and responded immediately to texts and vrbo emails. We would definitely stay here again.
