About Charles Moore

We are the Moore family and want to welcome you to share our mountain! Charles grew up in the mountains of East Tennessee, and purchased 1000 acres around the home a few years ago, because when he saw this, he felt it was the loveliest view he had seen in the Eastern US, and wanted to preserve it. Charles has his own company and is Tennessee and Vanderbilt grad. Leigh is a realtor in Charlotte and would love to sell your home, or sell you your dream home! She sells throughout North Carolina and has strong contacts in Tennessee where she can provide a referral. Leigh is a Kansas graduate.

We met and fell in love in 2013. We use this home as a ministry to couples who are having problems (especially financial) in their marriages and need to get away to refind the love they have always had for each other. You staying here is supporting that, and we are so thankful God has brought you here. Our hope and prayer is that you will feel peace, relaxation, and renewal, and that if you are married, you will rekindle that spark also!

We have 3 children (they are college age, thus the reason for our age requirements lol). Ryan graduated the University of Texas in 2014. Emily is a junior at the University of North Carolina, and Parker is a freshman at Walters State, soon to be on to Tennessee.

Charles family (both his mother's and father's sides) were some of the first families of Tennessee to settle in the the state, and quite possibly walked across this property to make their new frontier home. You can see we have an affinity for orange around here. Charles has had 8 direct generations having graduated from UT since it was a college in 1796.

Please be sure and leave your comments for us, and we have a prayer book for you to leave your requests in also. We have a new blank page every time, so don't worry about anyone else seeing it but us! Y'all have a good time, and dont mind the moonshiners and occasional bear that may wonder by!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We thank the Moores for allowing is to stay at their home for free due to our son's terminal cancer. It was a great time and we enjoyed the hiking and swimming in the mountain creek swimming hole. We saw numerous deer, and think we saw a bear but werent sure. Thanks again for everything!

Great weekend getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This secluded log cabin was a perfect place for our family getaway. Charles was a great host with lots of suggestions and helpful advice. Definitely need a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get up to the cabin!

Super Secluded. Stunning Views. Memories Made

  • 5 of 5

It is hard to put our experience into words! Definitely made a lot of memories! The house is absolutely beautiful with everything you could ever need or think about wanting in a vacation house. Views are stunning, especially in the fall. Everywhere you look is like you snapped a picture. We felt like we were in a different time! Hot tub is super relaxing at any time of day! Charles was an exceptional host and made sure to check on us. And when we weren’t quite prepared for how secluded the house was....he went out of his way to make sure that we were safe and comfortable! (We didn’t have a proper vehicle for the drive...lol). That being said, a few helpful tips! The house is SUPER secluded and is about another 25 minutes off the interstate on small mountain roads. The house sits on 1000 acres! Get there during the DAY so you can understand where you are. We got there at night, and it was definitely an adventure! The last couple of miles (his driveway), is a gravel one-lane road pretty much straight up the mountain (super awesome and a little scary), BUT make sure to have a 4-wheel drive vehicle. He is serious about that. It is impossible and unsafe to take anything else up the mountain (and Charles won’t even let you try!) Take Charles’s suggestion to go grocery shopping BEFORE you get there as the store is pretty far away. Since you are so high in the mountains, make sure to take the proper clothes and footwear! (Stylish boots and flip flops are NOT it...lol!). It’s about 10 degrees cooler up the mountain. This place is awesome either for a relaxing trip to just escape “reality” for a while or can be a place for adventure and exploration! We would definitely do it again! (And be more prepared!!). Thank you Charles for taking such great care of us!

Great Stay

  • 5 of 5

We loved the place. It was so clean and had everything we needed. We were told to only bring our food and clothes, and the hosts were correct. Note their is no a large coffee pot, only a Keurig single serve, so bring pods! We saw deer and wild turkey, and the children loved it. The hiking at the nearby state park 5 minutes away is wonderful, as well as all the hiking around the home.

Great Family Experience

  • 5 of 5

My family has traveled many times through VRBO, and this is the best experience we have had. We wanted a secluded home where we could "connect" with our three college age boys for Christmas, and this was great. They even had a Christmas tree and decorations up! We played pool, board games, and watched movies (there have a great selection). We brought our 2 dogs with us and they loved having all the room to roam. The hotub was wonderful and so nice. We went skiing at Wolfe Laurel (wonderful skiing), which is about 15 minutes from the home. We plan on making this our holiday getaway for years to come.

An Amazing mountain side cabin!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is absolutely gorgeous and Charles Moore was a very kind host through any question or issue we faced. The location is fantastic for hiking and skiing is also near by! We were lucky on our visit and got a decent amount of snow which made the property even more amazing! I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to get out of the city and just relax! Thank you!
