About Kevin Jones
My name is Kevin Jones and I live in France with my wife Nikki and 3 children. The family decided to move away from UK for a change in culture and better weather. The region is a great place to bring up children with the education being second to none. You will have an excellent time in the cottage and private gardens within the 800 year old chateau grounds. Very peaceful and quiet for that ideral holiday relaxation.
Kevin Jones purchased this Cottage in 2003
Why Kevin Jones chose Mont
The lovely weather with easy access to the mountains, sea and Spain. Buitiful countryside.

Great place for a person who wants to get far away from it all
If you want a cottage at the end of the road, this is it. I came for complete solitude and I got it. The grounds are magnificent. The laird of the manor's dogs are extraordinary. Superb surroundings and total peace and quiet. Creature comforts are a bit old fashioned (heat from a wood burning stove) but my needs were elsewhere so a bit of primitive skills learning was fine. Proprietors are delightful.
We stayed in the Gatehouse in mid September and to be honest the weather wasn't great. The warmth of the welcome we received from Nickey and her family more than compensated for the unseasonable temperature.
The Gatehouse it'self is rather large and sleeps six quite easily but the single toilet and separate bath/shower room might not suit a full house. We (2) slept downstairs and found the bed very comfy, there are two double rooms upstairs. The kitchen seems to have everything one could need, a range cooker, microwave oven, plenty of cutlery pot 'n pans etc etc.
Outside in the gardens there is plenty of space for the most energetic of children - trampoline, pool table, table tennis, small swimming pool and lots of other 'stuff' on the two acre field. The peace and tranquility in the evening, over a glass of wine is almost soulful and what is to be most treasured, by a city dweller, is that there ain't no traffic!
Visitors who are lucky enough to be offered the grand tour of the 12th century chateau should certainly accept. It's a restoration 'work in progress' but it is a beautiful home to a lovely family. The location just outside Gouze is ideal for touring the area around Biarritz/Bayonne - the caves at Batharram is a must see. Local restaurants abound and the wines are excellent. We will definitely go back.
The quintissential French rural Idyl .
The Gatehouse at Chateau Lespada is exactly what you`d hope to find in rural France . Charming character cottage , lovely private gardens , pool and pool-house . Hosts Kev and Nicky were brilliant . Made us feel really welcome and gave us loads of useful advice and info about the area . Nothing was any bother , and they made our holiday a fantastic break . Can`t thank them enough , they gave us all the privacy we wanted but made sure we knew they were just up the drive if we needed anything . There is loads to see and do in the local area , if you can drag yourself away from the gardens, pool and barby (difficult but we managed a couple of days out ) . Pau , Lourdes and Biarritz well worth a visit . As was a day up in the "Haute Pyrennees" , spectacular mountain views . And there is even an autodromo ( racetrack ) not far away for the petrol heads among us.
Local town Orthez , well served for shops and supermarkets , and well worth a walk round the old town . Found all the locals to be friendly and helpful , even taking the trouble to help us with our very basic attempts at french .
Loved the area , our first visit to SW France , but won`t be our last , loved the people , loved the cottage , loved the weather . Oh and the wine wasn`t bad either !
So once again , thanks to Kev and Nicky , hope to see you again in the future .
Mark and Jean .
An all-round fascinating family fun holiday - lots to do at the Gite and in the region for all ages
We arrived at Chateau de Lesparda and were immediately able to plunge into our swimming pool and relax in our comfortable pool house.
We ate our meals at a large outdoor table by the pool and pool house with lighting; and were able to watch our teenagers playing games in the games room. The games room/barn is amazing and seeped in history - at one time it was the orangery for the Chateau. The Chateau has belonged to some historically renowned French families - who served as secretaries and musketeers to the royal family. 'Good King Henry IV' was born in Pau...
Kevin and Nicky Jones were incredibly welcoming and no request was too much for them. The gite was private and yet sociable - an Italian family with teenagers were in residence at the other gite and we had drinks with them one evening. The bedrooms were clean and modernised. There was loads of space to dry our clothes - the washing machine was very efficient. The kitchen and dining room were fully equipped and videos left out for us to watch in the sitting room.
Kevin left us out marked-up maps with directions to water parks, caves, shops, Pau, Biarritz, San Sebastián, Lourdes and St Jean de Luz. It is easy to drive into Spain or up to the ski resorts in the Pyrenees from Kevin and Nicky's Chateau. There is a boulangerie in their village, Gouze, and the croissants and bread are totally delicious from there.
The Chateau and gite were easy to find as the motorway is not far. The local town at Orthez has all the shops, supermarkets, petrol stations, chemists and banks required on holiday. But we loved visiting the city of Pau as Lescar for its shops, history, views of the Pyrenees and restaurants. There is an airport at Pau as well as Biarritz and a train station. The train journey to Paris is 4 hours to Gare Montparnasse and you can rent a car from the train station - as well as the airports.
Next time we return we want to visit the ski resort at Gourette. Gouze is 1 1/2 hours by car from Gourette. And we know that Kevin and Nicky will always be welcoming and accommodating. They have lived in France long enough to know how everything works and offer invaluable advice from schools, buying and selling in France to vineyards to visit.
Our teenagers felt totally at home at our gite but equally there is enough to do for younger children with water slides, the pool and playhouses. We simply enjoyed sitting out over a drink and admiring the stunning landscaped gardens and views in peace.
Thankyou so much Adam,Auriol,Felicity, and Daisy for being the perfect guests,it was lovely to meet you all and learn about your future plans to begin a life in France. It was lovely on an evening to here about all your day,and i will miss the girls sitting outside chatting about the days events.Thankyou so much for looking after the house beautifully, and generally being wonderful guests.Perhaps next year when Kevin and i visit the Uk we will book a tour of the Vinyards with you both, and no doubt buy some supplies.Hopefully we will see you again in the not to distant future perhaps for the skiing season, once again thankyou all.PS Auriol left her hat,i will post it on if you would like x
house near a castle
The kitchen was very dirty, the hob was greasy, the tiles on the kitchen wall were greasy.
I had to clean the cooker, the washing machine , even the cups and plates were not clean!!! I looked in the cupboard for a cooking pan, they were not cleaned for weeks.
I used a broom under the cupboard and there was a lot under it. you don"t expect this. In the garden, the garden chairs near the pool were all turned green. Everything was not in a good condition. It is an old house , but old will not mean that it is not clean.
In the 10 years we have rented this lovely cottage, we have never received any comments of this nature. I disagree immensley with the clients comments and explained if there were any problems with anything regarding the cottage we were more than happy and available to assist in any way as we are onsite.
Unfortunately I was informed as the family were leaving which left me unable to be of help and assistance, this gave me reason to believe there was an alternative motive, ie reimboursement of payment.
Holiday in south West France
Very nice stay in this property. The location and surroundings are great. The house is a bit old so don't expect any fancy thrills but nonetheless it is spacious for 6 (we were only 5 with a dog). The garden is huge and you'll enjoy the quietness as very rarely a car is passing by. The owners are super nice and helpful.
Man made lake and beach 5 minutes drive. Rafting 30 minutes drive. Biaritz beach 50 minutes drive. Skiing and Mountains 1 hour.
Pau airport 25 minutes away. Biaritz Airport 1 hours away. Toulouse airport 2 hours away. Bordeaux about 2 1/2 hours away.
