Lovely place for a family holiday
Lovely house in a very peaceful location. We stayed with our three children and had a wonderful holiday. The house was clean and well-stocked and there were plenty of indoor and outdoor toys to keep the kids occupied. We had incredible weather so spent most of the week in the lovely pool! There is also a fantastic big garden perfect for running around. We didn't manage many day trips but there is a very helpful folder full of information about local sightseeing and things to do - we'll have to do more exploring next time!
Excellent gite in peaceful spot
This is an excellent gite in a very quiet rural spot. I think due to being used by the owners for their holidays it means the gite is VERY well equipped with books/dvds/toys/games/pool toys/outdoor games/kitchen equipment/etc. It was great for our 7 & 9 yr old to arrive to find various boxes of toys in their rooms.
The gite layout is great with the big open-plan kitchen diner. The kitchen is fully equipped so no problems for self catering. The outdoor eating space is great and gets the evening sun. Pleased/surprised to find fuel/fire-lighters provided for the big bbq, much appreciated.
I think the pool must be the warmest gite pool we have ever used, probably due to the quality electric pool cover and heating system. Really nice pool area with plenty of chairs, though having some that can go fully flat would have been preferred. Nice big garden for the kids to play in and having the swings was great.
The gite is in a very quiet spot, I think only a handful of cars passed during our week. The nearest shop/bakery was a manageable 3k bike ride for our kids. We went to Puy de Fou which was great, though be prepared for a lot of walking. Paying for the audio translations is not worth the money as the translation is often drowned out by the french language PA system and the stories are a tad romanticised so you won't miss much. If you watch the bird show get a seat up near the back row as the birds fly up towards the back.
The little lake beach in Pouzages was great, with a small sandy beach, roped off area for kids to swim, picnic benches, toilet and play area. If you go in the morning you will probably have the beach to yourself. Parc de Pierre Brun near Mervent is definitely worth a visit if you have kids. Loads of simple human powered rides for kids and adults to go on. The whole family really enjoyed it.
Overally a really nice week in a great gite. Thanks.
Great house, super location
This house is a delightful place to stay, the description in the previous review if very accurate. We agree that a little extra storage in the second double bedoom would be helpful and personally we would have appreciated two pillows each in the first bedroom. Other than that we can not recommend the house enough. A truly charming home, great value for money and a super base for a day out at Puy du Fou which is an amazing experience. Outside the garden is huge and gives many areas to relax in that's if you can leave the pool which is well maintained and is fabulously warm. We were thrilled with our choice of villa. Debbie the caretaker and the owners are very helpful.
We turned up on the Saturday night (after some ferry delays) to a clean and well stocked house. There was so much information on what to do, where to go and how to use the house. The communication was good and the owners were happy to help with anything.
The house is clean and well maintained with small touches like dishwasher tablets, butter, milk etc. to hand - even though we'd brought our own.
The main kitchen/dining area was bigger than expected and became our main living area during the week. The table is a lovely size and there are plenty of chairs.
You need a car because the bakery is a drive away although they open early at 7am so it's handy for when you're going out for the day.
The lounge was comfortable but we hardly used it anyway because the weather was good.
It sleeps ten. That is: two double rooms with double beds, one room with a single & a bunk bed then another room with two singles and a 'put-you-up'. The photos of the bedrooms & bathrooms don't really do them justice. The double rooms are a comfortable size and both have large double wardrobes. The main room also has a large chest of drawers. The second double room could do with drawers and/or bedside tables.
The upstairs bathroom has a bath and integral shower, sink & toilet whilst the downstairs has a shower, toilet, sink plus the washing machine & tumble dryer.
Outside, the garden is bathed in sunlight all day. Towards the end of the day it can become hot and there is little shade so we tended to eat indoors. There are 12 outside chairs and a large outside table perfect for dining. The pool is warm and a great size (8m x 4m) and is great in the evening due to the lighting - provided you're not too loud for the neighbours.
The house was cool enough that we didn't need to use the fans provided. The house has shutters which are lovely and keep the heat out but you can leave the windows open for the breeze.
It would have been helpful to have a map for the local supermarket as we ended up going to Chantonnay to the hypermarkets but I think there might be one closer. We didn't have much time to explore.
Overall we thought this was good value for money and you could either use the house as a base for travelling or just spend endless days at the house in and around the pool.
Would definitely recommend to friends.
