A beautiful 3 bedroom cottage with stunning Loch views.
About Catherine Goldsmith
We are a family of four living in East Lothian, Scotland. George is a property agent with his own business based in Edinburgh. Catherine is an Interior Designer and runs her own business too! We have two daughters, Ella and Rosie. The Highlands are an essential escape for us all.
Catherine Goldsmith purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why Catherine Goldsmith chose Inverness
Although George was brought up in Dorset, his mother's family used to own the Knockie Estate and many holidays were spent at Brachkashie, enjoying the loch, the little islands, and brown trout fishing from the boat. Picnics, walking and fresh Highland air was the essence to our Scottish holidays.
What makes this Cottage unique
The unique benefits of Brachkashie Cottage is undoubtedly its setting overlooking Loch Knockie.

Our dream holiday come true!
For several years we have been looking for a cosy cottage with mooring and rowing boat surrounded by beautiful scenery. A place where we can really be in contact with nature, enjoying its sights and sounds. Brachkashie is exactly that place and we found it at last!! We spent the days flyfishing, rowing, walking then had bbqs on the decking with the amazing Webber bbq and later when it was too dark to enjoy the scenery we played scrabble or read by the fire. There are plenty of good books and board games, no need for wifi or tv. The nights were so restful, there was nothing to disturb the sweet silence, just the lovely sound of a tawny owl every now and then. Then we looked forward to breakfast in the kitchen watching the constantly changing look of the lake with the trees and clouds reflecting on its sometimes glass smooth, sometimes choppy waters. We saw plenty of wildlife around the area (different kinds of birds, ducks, trout, frogs, hedgehogs, sheep and deer). We really miss all of it, but we have returned to our noisy, busy town refreshed and rested, knowing that we can return next year to our dream holiday cottage. Thank you so much both Catherine and George for being so helpful, kind and attentive. You explained and prepared everything so well for us. Thank you also for taking the trouble in arranging to send us the Bose noise cancelling headphones we absentmindedly left behind. We were bound to leave them behind as we had no need for them from the very first moment we arrived and were put away in a drawer and never missed till we were close to the airport and they started to be necessary again!
We are very touched by your extremely kind words about Brachkashie Cottage. It is an very special place to us so we are thrilled that we can share it and it is so appreciated. We hope to welcome you back again one day.
All the very best,
George & Catherine
Mesmerizing which will remain always
Thank you Linda for your lovely comment. So delighted that you have decided to return in June! Maybe I will get to meet you and your father this time! All the best,
Catherine & George
Brachkashie Cottage was just what we were hoping it would be and more! We were overjoyed with the peace, quite, and solitude of the area. Whether our day was spent at the cottage and exploring the surrounding area, or venturing out on day trips (climbing Ben Nevis), each experience confirmed that choosing Brachkashie for our family vacation was the perfect choice. We're already discussing a return trip.

Perfect getaway cottage.
If you want peace, quiet, solitude, beautiful scenery and stunning views, this is the place for you. Great for kids, we went with our 3 ages 3, 7 and 10 and they loved it. Close to Loch Ness it’s a perfect spot. Very comfortable cottage. Well equipped. Cosy wood burner for cold months. Gorgeous gardens. Would go back. Highly recommended.
Delighted that you all enjoyed your holiday so much.
Many thanks for your kind words and we look forward to hopefully welcoming you back again in the future.
All the best,
Property is amazing and has a fantastic history attached ...
We had a most fantastic two weeks here with our grandchildren ...weather was kind to us too we also had fantastic neighbours too...children did not want to leave any day so most of our time was spent at the cottage ...views are amazing.....just lacks a little TLC....relying on other guest to clean is not always the best solution and would be nice if u book 2 weeks bedding and towels are changed after week 1...but we still loved it here
Slowing down even faster!
Catherine's place was perfect for our week-long family getaway to Scotland. While staying at Brachkachie we did not need to drive long distances in order to explore Scotland. At Brachkachie, everything is right at your doorsteps. We (a family of 4, two boys, 8 and 10 years old). We would usually go for a little hike, paddle on Loch Knockie, do some fishing right from the shore or from the rowing boat provided... we also loved the picknicks on the small island just a couple hundred yards away from the shore.
The cottage is perfectly equipped - from the kettle to the Nespresso coffee machine to the huge stove to the fireplace. The tech savvy even finds a bluetooth speaker to play the sounds stored on his cell phone... That's about the standard that Catherine sets at Brachkachie.
We absolutely loved the interior of Brachkachie - everything is so nicely renovated and the whole cottage is just like one genuine piece of art. Oh, and by the way: the hot water bottles are even matching the pillows!
We will be back - cannot wait to open that door again, step into the building, go 8 steps down, open the door to the patio and - am blown away by the stunning view of Loch Knockie.
Catherine, once again thank you so much for sharing Brachkachie with us. It was absolutely wonderful!
Wild brown trout fishing is available during the season (fly only) on Loch Knockie. Stalking can be arranged on neighbouring estates and salmon fishing can be booked on the nearby Findhorn, River Oich and River Ness. For golfers, Fort Augustus, just 8 miles away, has an 18 hole course which runs alongside the Caledonian Canal.
There are wonderful walks nearby and Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK, is only 45 minutes drive away at Fort William, along with a number of other accessible Munros. Take a drive along the Great Glen passing by Loch Oich and Loch Lochy to Loch Linnhe where it enters the sea on the West Coast - it's well worth a trip.
The West Coast including the Isle of Skye, Plockton, Kyle of Lochalsh, Mallaig are all accessible by car and within 1.5 - 2 hours drive.
The charming village of Fort Augustus is just 8 miles away and is worth a visit. The main attraction is watching the boats come through locks on the Caledonian Canal before entering Loch Ness. There are several pubs and places to eat here including The Lovat Arms Hotel.
Salmon fishing can be arranged on the River Findhorn, River Oich, River Morison and River Ness, which are all within easy driving distance.
The Falls of Foyers is worth a visit. A short walk down a fairly steep wooded path leads you to the Falls.
Mountain biking - Wild Trax at Laggan (just over an hour's drive) and the Ben Nevis Range (45 mins) offers good mountain biking options. Wild Trax is probably more children friendly with a gentler grading for all levels of ability.
There are endless hill walking opportunities within easy driving distance, including the almighty Ben Nevis, the biggest of them all. Standing at 4,600 feet and the largest mountain in the UK.
The Fort William to Mallaig Jacobite Train - described as one of the great railway journeys of the world this 84 mile round trip takes you past a list of impressive extremes. The train is the very same one used in the Harry Potter films and travels over the famous Glenfinnan viaduct also seen in the films as Harry and chums travel to Hogwarts.
