Apartment in Lower Largo, Nr. St Andrews, Fife, Scotland - Centrally Located In Old Village
About Neil Macdonald
We, Neil and Grace Macdonald have the good fortune to be based in Linlithgow but also to have access to this picturesque Fife fishing village. Other commitments (particularly at weekends) have greatly reduced our opportunities to fully enjoy the property as we have since our purchase in 2003, hence our decision to share the experience with visitors. The enthusiastic reaction of visiting family and friends from Britain and abroad reassured us that the flat was as comfortable and welcoming as we had always found it. Come and see what we mean!

Why Neil Macdonald chose Lower Largo
With no knowledge of Lower Largo we stumbled upon the village and immediately fell in love with the flat itself, as well as the surrounding beach, harbour and village pub and our first impressions have survived. Typically, although we had never heard of the village before driving through it for the first time, dozens of friends and acquaintances have since raved about the place with one work colleague who used to visit every summer as a child describing it as his "favourite place on earth!"
What makes this Apartment unique
To enjoy a charming flat with so many attractions within such easy reach never fails to delight. Within 100 paces of the front door you can be breakfasting on the beach, dining in the Crusoe Hotel, sitting on a park bench overlooking the harbour, replenishing provisions in the local store, or enjoying a drink in the Railway Inn or its rear beer garden. All this in a village setting where locals and visitors alike rarely fail to say "Hello!" as they pass.

Would definitely do it again
Lovely flat and nice area. People really friendly. Would definitely do it again
Loved Lower Largo
It was a delight to find this tucked away treasure. The apartment was understated in its charm and practicality and particularly with having a dog with us too. It gave all that was hoped for and the easy access to the beach for walks made the stay perfect. The hospitality from the local inn next door and good food provided by the local hotel provided a perfect location to have a retreat. The weather blessed us too.
Perfect place for a relaxing stay
We spent a long weekend in Neil's cosy flat which is very well located, close to shops where you can buy basic supplies and to a really great pub, the Railway Inn with its good selection of beers and gins. Leven with the full range of shops is close by, too.
The flat itself has everything you need for a comfortable stay, a well equipped kitchen with breakfast bar, and a table that pulls out with cleverly hidden chairs. Everything was nice and clean, the bed very comfortable and the location peaceful and quiet- we loved hearing the sea! Little touches such as the bottle of wine and shortbread made us feel welcome, though we did not actually meet Neil. All communications were replied to promptly, and it was easy to collect the key.
There is plenty of local information provided in the flat, which is close by the harbour and beach. We did part of the Fife Coastal Path, from Lower Largo to Elie, and wandered about the quaint village and adjacent Lundin Links. St Andrews is a short drive away, and picturesque East Neuk fishing villages. We were very lucky with weather, but the flat is provided with warm storage heaters and plenty of hot water so you'd be comfortable whatever temperature outside. Thank you, Neil.

The small village of Lower Largo is famous as the birthplace of the real life Robinson Crusoe, whose statue is prominently displayed in the village. There are many places to go and things to do in and around the East Neuk and something to suit everyone. St Andrews is a delight to visit, including the Botanic gardens, Craigton Park and the Aquarium. Heading back to the East Neuk you can venture into the Secret Bunker or the Scottish Fisheries Museum.
