House and Barn in Garrigill, Nr. Alston, Cumbria, Lake District, England, UK - Situated On The Edge Of Garrigill Village, Only 2 Minutes Walk To The Shop, Pub And Historic Church
About Michael Burton
Michael and Kathryn have two children, John and Melissa. The house does refect the family - the kitchen is full of useful (and some might say useless) kitchen equipment and cookery books, as food is a major passion for the whole family (and job for Kathryn). Melissa and Kathryn like to enter the cookery competitions The modern gas barbeque and patio area are Michael's territory John has a love of the outdoors including fishing, and gardening. It's likely that you'll see John at some point tending has vegetables in the kitchen garden. He always enters the vegetable competitions at the Garrigill gala
Michael Burton purchased this Barn in 2009
Why Michael Burton chose Alston
We visited the area a number of times with friends and just loved it. The scenery is beautiful at any time of year, in any weather, but the walks up to the waterfall in Winter are breathtaking, and it's wonderful to watch the salmon swimming up stream in the Autumn literally 50 metres from the house. We've always found the people in Garrigill extremely welcoming and there are regular events - craft fairs, fireworks nights, Garrigill gala, carol singing, and even quoits in the Summer
What makes this Barn unique
The local pub has open fires and does wholesome home cooked meals, as well as having musical evenings, and various other activities The possibility of renting a private pool by the hour has always proved popular with our family and friends. You do need to book in advance. It's a lovely way to relax after a busy day before heading back to snuggle in front of the log fire

Great location to go walking from lovely cottage.
Beautiful little place
Myself and family really enjoyed our get away. Very homely and clean..
The property was ideal for walkers
Away from the hustle and bustle. Ideal place to get away from it all
Very enjoyable few days away from it all in a snug cottage. Great addition in the extension at the back, although we kind of used it as a boot room rather than a bedroom. Michael very helpful, answering queries very quickly. Plenty of parking and enclosed garden perfect for the dogs. Easy access to lots of lovely walks and things to do. No mobile signal so Wi-Fi very useful. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Lovely homey cottage all mod cons , very clean great base for walks and lakes, dog friendly ours made herself at home straight away. Thoroughly recommend it.
Lovely cottage in a wonderful location
The cottage is a perfect home from home with everything you need provided. It is in a quiet location just away from the centre of Garrigill which is a picturesque and historic village. The location is perfect as there are many local walks and attractions , including the Pennine Way and Ashgill Force waterfall. Local shops and pubs can be found in Alston about 4 miles away and there is a pub and very good restaurant in Nenthead which is a bit closer. I would recommend this cottage totally, we had a wonderful holiday there.
The property is located on the Sea to Sea (CTC) & Penine way England's most popular long distance cycle route, and there are many walks to follow locally in beautiful scenery.
There is plenty to keep all ages fully occupied within easy driving distance - The Eden Ostrich World, The Rheghed Centre, The South Tynedale Railway at Alston, The Hub at Alston (heritage and transport musuem), Nenthead Mines and Heritage Centre, Kilhope Lead Mining Musuem, Weardale Museum, and Stanhope open air pool ( heated ) Hadrian's Wall, and the Lake District.
It is also possible to rent a private pool in the village of Garrigill, within only 2 minutes walk. ( currently £20/hour for the private use of the pool, sauna, and jacuzzi ) A great way to relax at the end of a busy day.
