Meric has been completely renovated to a very high standard, with three large double bedrooms, sleeping 6 adults, or 4 adults, and 4 small children if they are happy to share one room and 2 double beds. The main bedroom has an ensuite shower room, and a dressing room. The second bedroom has 2 double beds (140cm) and a shower room. The third room has private use of the family bathroom, which has a bath and walk-in shower. There is a salon, and a large open plan kitchen and dining area, with a utility room and a separate downstairs toilet. Doors from the kitchen lead to a large, fenced garden.
The house stands alone at the top of a hill, with views of the vineyards to the front and the Gresigne forest to the rear. There are uninterrupted views towards the pretty bastide village of Castelnau de Montmiral.
We live in an apartment at the rear of the house which is reached by a separate driveway and entrance. Guests can be assured of privacy in the main house, the garden and the pool area. We have three small dogs, they are quiet and friendly and fencing ensures that they do not disturb our guests, but you may see them from time to time.
Our house is dog friendly and we are happy to accept up to two dogs, but not cats, our dogs are not cat-friendly! There is a path from the house that leads directly onto the Gresigne forest, perfect for walking.
The pool, for your private use, is 9mx5m and 1.30m deep throughout, with full width steps at one end. The terrace next to the pool is designed for outside dining, with a raised 'fire pit' style charcoal barbeque, a large round teak dining table, easily seating 8 people, and of course, that fabulous view.
Castelnau is about 3k from us and has 2 bar restaurants which are situated in a picturesque, traffic free square. Other amenities include a small supermarket which also sells local produce and fresh bread, a pharmacy, post office, tea room and doctor's surgery. There is a small, bustling market in the square on Tuesday mornings, selling local, home grown produce and arts and crafts. It is lovely to have a coffee in the square after doing your shopping.
Gaillac is the nearest town, about 15 minutes away. The region is a famous wine producing area and there are no shortage of opportunities to go wine tasting. During the summer, some producers will conduct tours as well as hosting apero concerts for visitors. The Gaillac wine festival takes place on the first weekend in August, where you can sample everything in one place.
There are a number of other picturesque villages to visit in the area, Puycelci, Penne, and Bruniquel being the closest. Cordes sur Ciel is only 20 minutes away and was voted the most beautiful village in France in 2014, it is definitely worth a trip.
This is a very beautiful part of France, and Meric is in a perfect location, secluded but not isolated, the perfect place to relax.
