Why Marty Kalin chose Mount Pleasant
There has been a profound transformation of Washington DC in the last 30 years. I purchased this property 33 years ago because I had a gut feeling that DC was only going to get better and better. The property is in a historic DC neighborhood, with excellent public transportation and a bike share outside the building. The building is convenient to all the major sites in DC and is a 5 minute walk to the National Zoo.
What makes this Apartment unique
The townhouse was built around 1900. It has many amazing architectural details including large and plentiful windows, high ceilings, large rooms and hardwood floors. There is a bus stop in front of the building that travels to three major subway (metro) stations.

Excellent Washington DC apartment
We've just finished a wonderful visit to Washington DC. This apartment was an excellent base for our trip. Marty 'the host' and his associates made sure we had no issues.
We had the second floor apartment. It was clean, cute, well appointed and had plenty of room for the four of us. The rear, screened, balcony was a nice place for morning coffee.
The location was near the Columbia Heights train station. We walked to it daily.
We also walked to the zoo, about 30 minute away. There's a Target near the train station. We also used the corner grocery, just couple steps from our front porch.
Be aware of parking. This is not a fault of the host or the apartment, just big city life...
There a two spots available behind the apartment. Reserve one , then leave your vehicle and walk, bus, train around town. My old, midwestern, mind had a hard time dealing with
traffic, parking and real estate prices in DC :-)
We look forward to staying here on our next trip to DC.
Thank you Marty !
The apartment is bright and airy. Lots of space. Everything was neat and tidy when we got there with plenty of fresh towels and extra linens. Lots of cute homey touches like books and board games. Also there was fruit, juice and milk in the fridge. I cooked several times while we were there and the kitchen was surprisingly well stocked with utensils for pretty much any occasion. The stairs are very narrow and low head clearance when coming up to the apartment so be forewarned when dragging your stuff up, lol. The bus stations are all super close to get around DC but we found Uber to be more convenient in general. There’s a great little bakery called Le Caprice just a pleasant half mile walk away. The neighborhood felt very safe even at night. There is a great little restaurant for wine and food in the evening just across the street called Elle. Beware of the Chinese food at China Town though, it’s awful, lol.
Spacious apartment that met all our needs
We spent 10 days and 11 nights in this beautiful apartment that provided everything we could possibly need during our stay in Washington DC. The host provided coffee, tea, milk, OJ and some fresh fruit. We would suggest you walk the half mile east on Park to the Giant Market for a better selection and better prices than the small local market, which is only 2 blocks away. The neighborhood is charming with lots of small ethnic cafes. We recommend you try the Marx Cafe, which is across the street and a block south.
Due to the weather, we used a combination of the Metro and Uber to get around. We didn't use the bus, despite the fact that there are 2 bus stops on the block. There were even a few Smartrip cards to use for the Metro, which saved us from having to buy a card for our stay. Of course, we had to put money on them, but we didn't have to buy the cards.
Would we stay there again? Definitely!! Good location, lovely apartment and all at a good price. Thanks, Marty, we had a good time!
A beautiful space perfect for our trip!
The set up of the property is perfect and the location is awesome! Close to tons of great shops and great restaurants. The hosts are lovely, and I would definitely stay there again
Perfect stay for a month DC
We stayed at Martin's apartment for four weeks in august 2017.
The apartment is spacious, clean and comfortable. We had some lovely dinners in the very well equiped kitchen. Upon arrival fresh fruits, milk, water, coffee was available.
Airconditioning worked fine, soaps and shampoo provided in bathroom too, it's like going to an hotel, but you'll have an entire apartment here.
The apartment lives in a peaceful neighbourhood, farmers market on saturday in front of the door, convienent stores and small supermarkets at your doorstep. Also good public transportation connections with a lot of busses departing from Lamont Park and 16th street. A 10 min walk takes you to centre of Columbia Heights where you'll find bigger shops, Target, Giant etc. and the closest Metro station.
I must point out here that next to the apartment the contact with the owner is outstanding. He replied most of the times within the hour(!) and provided us with so much good information and helped us with all our questions, whether it was just info or sending someone over to fix something. Also the housekeeper en host were very friendly and helpful. He really offers great service, we really appreciated it.
This was the perfect apartment in a friendly and diverse neighborhood. The host was attentive and responsive when we needed something, and the location was conveniently close to everything we needed. On-site laundry was a pleasant bonus.
