Cottage near Barlow, Peak District National Park, Derbyshire, England - Peaceful Location, Lovely Views, Walks From The Doorstep. Lots to Explore. 'Home From Home'.
- english, italian
We moved to Derbyshire in 1996 having completely fallen in love with the beautiful countryside and all that the Peak District has to offer. Our children (now 16 and 18) were born here. We renovated our 16th and 17th century house- and subsequently Lavender Cottage which serves both as a holiday cottage as well as extra accommodation for our family and friends. As such we have made it a real 'home from home'- tastefully decorated and appointed, spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable with lots of little details to make everyone's stay as enjoyable as possible. As a keen cook I have made sure the kitchen is very well equipped. We enjoy walking, biking, eating out and generally enjoying Derbyshire and have pulled plenty of our recommendations together for you in a folder in the cottage. Should you need anything before or during your stay just get in touch- we will try and help you in any way we can.
Nicki purchased this Cottage in 1996
Why Nicki chose North East Derbyshire District
What can we say? Everyone loves Lavender Cottage and is always sorry to leave due to its peaceful, rural location and wonderful views, yet at the same time being on the doorstep of so much that Derbyshire and the Peak District have to offer. The Chatsworth Estate is 10 mins drive away with its wonderful parklands as well as the House and Gardens to explore. Another 5 minutes further on is Bakewell, in the heart of the Peak District. Similarly you can be in Sheffield within 30 mins, Manchester in just over an hour and in London within 2 hours. We have been here 19 years and wouldn't want to live anywhere else!
What makes this Cottage unique
The only thing I can add is that when we lived in Lavender Cottage for a week, while we were having a new boiler put in the main house, my husband and children decided they could easily move into the cottage permanently -deciding it was more comfortable, cosy and clutter free than our own house! In the past, two different lots of friends of ours came to stay for a couple of weeks between houses and ended up staying months- no-one ever wants to leave! We do hope you enjoy your stay.

Gorgeous cottage in perfect location
We stayed for three nights and everything was perfect. The cottage is very well appointed with comfortable furnishings, and a well stocked kitchen. The enormous bed was particularly comfy! The grounds and view are beautiful and the location, between Bakewell and Chesterfield, was very convenient. Our dog felt very much at home too! I can definitely recommend Lavender Cottage as a great home-from-home rental.
Lovely Lavender Cottage
We loved our time at Lavender Cottage which was perfect for us in every way. Local area was outstanding with lots to explore and with plenty of really good places to eat if you felt the need.
Our only problem was trying to contact HomeAway with a small problem, this proved impossible and I would not use this company again.
Lovely Lavender Cottage
Lavender cottage is comfortable, well equipped and is surrounded by a large, well tended garden and beautiful views. The log burner was a welcome addition for the chilly evenings and added to the cosiness of this traditional stone building.
There are lots of books and games available if the weather isn’t good and the lack of wi fi leaves you with time on your hands.
The cottage provided a great base for exploring the area, with Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and the beautiful garden at Thornbridge Hall, within a 20 minute drive. There’s also fly fishing available on the beats owned by the Peacock Hotel (Rowsley) on the River Wye and Derwent.
There are plenty of pubs and restaurants in the nearby villages but the fully equipped kitchen at Lavender cottage made it easy to prepare and cook meals there.
Nicki kept in touch regularly from the time of the booking and her directions on how to get there were really useful as our SatNav was easily confused in the country lanes.
Lavender cottage is a great place to take time out to enjoy peace and quiet, take in the views and to visit some well known places of interest in the area.
Very Cosy Cottage
We had a lovely stay here with great views from the large garden and a very cute but modern cottage. Lighting the log burner each night was a lovely experience and the cottage is situated a short drive to a lot of attractions around the peak district. Sadly as our stay was short we didn't get a chance to try any of the walks you can do from the doorstep of the cottage and there are plenty of tips for walks and things to do from the hosts.
Thank you so much for your positive feedback. Can’t believe the log burner was needed in June this year! but it does make the cottage even cosier at the end of the day. Glad you appreciated the things to do folder too. There is loads to do in the Peak District so do come back sometime! Best wishes, Nicki
Another lovely stay at Lavender Cottage
This was our third stay at Lavender Cottage and as on our previous visits we had a lovely time. The Cottage is very comfortable, well-equipped and provides a peaceful and relaxing base to explore the wonderful countryside in the area. Nicki is an extremely friendly and helpful host and on hand to help if you have any questions. We did a couple of lovely local walks and a trip to the well dressing at Tissington. Hope to be back again soon!
