About Philip Price
May Cottage is owned by us two brothers and we come here a lot with our families as well as letting it out.
Why Philip Price chose Sandwich
This cottage has been in our family for about 100 years - the census of 1911 has our ancestors registered here. My brother and I have been coming here since we were children to visit our great aunt and then with our own children when they were young. We still love holidaying here and we are delighted when others discover this beautiful place.
What makes this Cottage unique
This deceptively spacious cottage is in a fantastic location in the heart of this peaceful historic town. From the front door you are in the maze of ancient streets, near the old church of St Clements with its Norman tower, several charming old pubs, and the absolutely delightful walk round the town walls past beautiful meadows and the tranquil River Stour. There is a lovely children's play area nearby, as well as the Quayside with its yachts and old boats. Sandwich has quite an active programme of local events including concerts, live music in pubs, food markets and a little cinema. Few of our friends who have ever come have not fallen a little bit in love with Sandwich.

Quiet and peaceful location
I liked the cottage a lot and found it really easy to relax there. Its a great base for day trips to other Kent towns and places of interest, and its nice knowing that you will be returning to a tranquil home.
Sandwich village itself is quaint and quirky with lots of interesting nooks and crannies housing artisan shops, restaurants and pubs.
Lovely cottage with lots of space for 5 adults. Very convenient close to the quay, shops and pubs.
May Cottage had everything we could ask for and more and provided us with an extremely comfortable place to come back to after days out. We all loved the George and Dragon a few yards from May Cottage and had a delicious meal there as well as some late afternoon drinks.
Lovely cottage in great location
Went away in an extended family group (6 adults plus baby!) and found this perfect for all our needs. The cottage is more spacious than it looks from the outside, and was well equipped. We loved being able to walk to local shops and cafes in Sandwich, and really enjoyed the Salutation Gardens nearby. The owners advice on car parking was most helpful, and we parked our cars about a 4 minute walk away, which we didn't find inconvenient at all. Plenty to do in the area, we particularly enjoyed Walmer castle in Deal and the beach at Broadstairs. Would highly recommend going on the open top bus tour from Broadstairs to Ramsgate if it's running!
We are glad you have a lovely time in Sandwich. Thanks for the tip about the open top bus between Broadstairs and Ramsgate – even we did not know about that!
Very spacious and comfortable great location
We had a fantastic stay over a bank holiday weekend and were very lucky with the weather too. We are a family of four with older children who enjoyed having their own rooms and communal areas where we could all eat in the good sized dining area and relax in the lounge. It's bigger than it looks from outside and the owners have thoughtfully left some of the basics for washing up, etc. It was clean and well maintained. They left a booklet with easy instructions for working the TV, Internet, cooker, etc and for exploring the town and surrounding areas. We enjoyed wandering around Sandwich and did several walks from the cottage that were lovely. It was also a great base to explore further afield to Canterbury, Whitstable, Margate, etc all areas we had never been to before. It took a bit of looking about to figure out where to leave the car but it was fine once we knew. You can also park just down the road in a pay area that wasn't expensive by the bridge if you needed to be a bit closer.
We had a lovely time and everything worked well in the cottage which was as described and was very reasonably priced.
Sandwich as it should be
The cottage is just as it should be, quaint with the traditional elements but spacious. We know Sandwich particularly well and this is superbly located near the Quay and close to all the amenities. It was extremely well provided with all provisions required to make it a stay that was like home from home. The pricing from the owner was fair and reasonable for the length of stay we had in comparison to other Homeowners we obtained quotes from. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again when in Sandwich it was an excellent find. The homeowner has also been excellent with all correspondence.Only thing we could of done with was some tea towels.
Thanks for your kind comments, we are glad that you enjoyed your stay! I will make sure we provide some tea towels.
A 30-40 minute walk takes you to the unspoilt, undeveloped wild beauty of Sandwich bay. Other walks lead to the Roman ruins at the Richborough, and the surrounding area is full of country paths, peaceful villages, and the famous white cliffs. Classic english seaside towns like Broadstairs and Ramsgate are within 30 minutes drive, with super sandy beaches ready for your bucket & spade.
Dover and the Channel Tunnel are less than half an hour away, making day trips to France easy. There is a railway station in Sandwich serving Canterbury and London. Once in Sandwich you have no need of a car. You can park in the street to unload and then leave the car on unrestricted street parking a short walk from the cottage. If you are staying for two weeks or more we may be able to obtain a visitors' street parking permit for you to allow you to park in the street itself.
Sandwich is on your doorstep. Charming Deal and Walmer are 20 minutes drive, Canterbury with its magnificent cathedral, ancient streets and modern shopping is 30 minutes drive away. Old Kentish villages and churches abound. Seaside resorts like Broadstairs and Margate are within half an hour's drive. Inland there are orchards, Kentish vineyards, a zoo, and many other country attractions. There is a major retail shopping centre nearby.
Sandwich offers an varied array of attractions such as river cruises, including seal spotting!!, an Elizabethan Guildhall, antiques markets, Farmers’ market and the famous annual Sandwich summer festival held at the end of August.
