Your Own Private Hideaway In The Mountains...

Bedrooms 2
Property type chalet
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathroom, Sleep 4

Located just minutes away from world class white water rafting, mountain biking, hiking, skiing and more is your own private refuge in the Great Smoky Mountains. The Hydeaway lies between Bryson City and Robbinsville, North Carolina just off of Hwy 28 on the way to Fontana Dam, Deals Gap, the Tail of the Dragon and beyond. Enjoy beautiful misty morning views of the the Smokies, or watch the sunset from the privacy of your private wooden deck.

Our mountaintop location is just a few miles from Fontana Dam, just up the mountain on a gravel road. Our home is nestled high up on the side of the mountain in a quaint community known as The Pines and is surrounded by large trees and heavily wooded land. With only one other cabin down our road, our home is private and quiet.

Located in between Bryson City and Robbinsville, you have your choice of grocery stores, shops and restaurants. Robbinsville is only a 20 minute drive into town and offers quaint shops, restaurants, gas and groceries. Robbinsville is located within Graham County which is a "dry county" meaning no alcohol is sold within the county line with the exception of some resorts. Bryson City is only 30 minutes away and is home to kayakers, hikers, fly fishermen, mountain bikers, outdoor enthusiasts and friendly locals alike. There are many great locally-owned shops, bars, restaurants and of course the famous Great Smoky Mountain Railroad where you can board an authentic, recently restored steam engine for day sightseeing trips or special themed night time rides. From the Hydeaway, you are just a couple of hours drive to scenic tourist destinations like the Alpine Village of Helen, GA, the world famous Builtmore Estate in Asheville, or maybe a college football game at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. There are so many options, but our favorite might just be relaxing the day away breathing in the fresh mountain air with no place to be, no voicemails to check and no emails to respond to.

At night, you can try your luck at the newly renovated Harrah's Cherokee Casino in Cherokee or maybe check out the brand new Harrah's Casino in Murphy. There are also many small, craft breweries close by, many featuring tap rooms, great local food and live entertainment.

The Hydeaway is centrally located to some of our area's most popular attractions including: Nantahala Outdoor Center which offers white water rafting, kayaking and zip lining; Fontana Lake which is a wonderful lake for boating, skiing, fishing, paddelboarding and swimming; TheGreat Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP) with literally thousands of miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding, biking and camping; Deep Creek in Bryson City (for tubing down white water there's no better place on earth;) Harrah's Casinos in Cherokee and Murphy; Tsali Recreational Area with miles of scenic trails for horseback riding, hiking and WORLD FAMOUS mountain biking.

This area really is an outdoor lovers dream. Rent a pontoon boat for the day from one of the area's many marinas and explore Fontana Lake or Lake Santeetlah. Book a guided fly fishing excursion with a local outfitter or visit a local trout pond if you like "catching" more than "fishing." Visit Bryson City Outdoors and rent a stand-up paddle board for the day or take a yoga class on a stand-up paddle board. There's even a new Robert Trent Jones golf course only minutes away: the Sequoyah National Golf Course. Whatever it is you choose to do, it's all available and it's all close by.

Whether you desire a restful vacation sitting on the porch taking in the long range views or a place to call home in between adventures, The Hydeaway is just what the doctor ordered.

EXTERIOR: The Hydeaway is a two story, chalet style home, perfectly suited to the beautiful views afforded to us here in the mountains. You can have a relaxing dinner sitting at the outdoor table and chairs taking in the views, sip your morning coffee anticipating the day's upcoming adventures from a rocking chair or soak in the outdoor hot tub on the private porch. At night, make S'mores and count the shooting stars.

ENTRY LEVEL: Featuring an open floor plan with high ceilings in the main living area, with a rustic lodge atmosphere. Interior accents include a mixture of cozy, comfortable furniture, antiques and cabin decor.

The front door opens into a hallway that takes you to the spacious great room, dining room and kitchen area, and features cathedral picture windows that let in the wooded mountain views and washes the interior with ample natural light. A comfortable fold out sofa and an overstuffed leather club chair and ottoman face the real wood burning fireplace and provide plenty of seating for watching a movie or the big game on TV. We have an upgraded satellite TV package that features many movie channels as well as the MLB and NFL Season tickets.

For those who need to stay connected to the world or kids via social media, we have high speed internet via Frontier DSL with updated equipment to ensure the best possible internet speed.

The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to prepare snacks or complete meals. It includes a stove with oven, microwave, blender, toaster oven, coffee maker and dish washer and features plenty of counter space and storage. There's also a breakfast bar that seats 3 and sits between then kitchen and repurposed barn wood dining table. The dining table seats 6 and there's also a gas grill just outside the back door for your use.

Master BR: The master suite is located upstairs in the loft and is beautifully appointed with a queen sized sleigh bed and private bath. An antique maple rocking chair provides additional seating.

BEDROOM 2: The downstairs bedroom features a queen sized bed just across the hallway from an ample full bath with tub and shower.

There is also a laundry room just down the hall across from the kitchen with a full size washing machine and gas dryer.

About owner/property manager

Susie and Tom Peacock hail from Tampa, Florida and have vacationed here in the Robbinsville area for many years before purchasing the Hydeaway in 2008. Purchased as a private vacation home, they renovated and updated the property a little at a time when they vacationed there with their family. Over the years they fell in love with the area and the people and recently made the move here full time. They gave up big city life and now own a small farm just a few minutes away from The Hydeaway where they are now happily raising their two daughters as well as two dogs, six chickens, a cat, a horse and a seasonal mother-in-law.

Why owner/property manager chose Robbinsville

We purchased The Hydeaway back in 2008 after having spent many vacations up here staying in a very similar cabin that we loved up in the Snowbird area of Graham County. Once we decided to buy a place of our own up here, we knew that we wanted something a little closer to civilization but still private and we really wanted the same type of cabin we had be renting because we loved it and felt that it was such a great fit for our family. After searching high and low, we found The Hydeaway. It was in the perfect location and actually built by the same builder who had built the rental cabin we had been vacationing in for years. It was meant to be. We love this place!

What makes this chalet unique

There are so many benefits to staying at The Hydeaway. I think the fact that it offers quiet and privacy while still being accessible and only a few minutes drive to restaurants and attractions is the biggest thing though. We have done it all here. We have hunkered down here for days on end preparing great food and drinking wine while the snow falls outside and a fire burns in the we spent many weekends here going on sightseeing adventures and only using The Hydeaway as a home base. That's why we love it. It's a home away from home.

Perfect anniversary getaway in the mountains! Will be back!!!

  • 5 of 5

If you’re looking for a private getaway in the mountains this is the place!! This cabin is up on a beautiful mountain with pretty Mountain View’s from the hot tub, which was a nice surprise because we didn’t see that in the pictures. The cabin was extremely clean and cozy. They had pretty much anything you could need as far as seasonings, dishes, linens, etc. (including an outdoor grill!) The owners answered any questions we had right away! The drive to the cabin is gorgeous for miles! There are waterfalls and things to do in every direction! We cannot wait to come back! Thanks for letting us spend our anniversary at your beautiful cabin!

Peachtree Corners, GA

Really comfortable place- had everything we needed!

  • 5 of 5

My girls and I love the western NC mountains. The Hydeaway had everything we needed for a relaxing Labor Day weekend getaway. The home was meticulously clean and well appointed. I do a lot of cooking & the kitchen was fully stocked with all necessities.

The hot tub was amazing on chilly nights- the cover is hard to get on & off (it's heavy) though for the kids. The back deck is nice and quiet with the rocking chairs. Didn't use the grill, but we will next time we come back!
