This is an exceptional example of an original merchant's apartment close to the ancient Port of Leith, with stunning features, elaborate cornicing, stained glass, wall murals, flag stone flooring and hand carved doors. Leith was once an independent town from Edinburgh, albeit only ten minutes from the city center and has managed to retain much of it's unique character and distinctive personality with many excellent bars and restaurants! Located just two minutes walk from two large supermarkets and just ten minutes on the bus to city center. The apartment has it's own private entrance, just off the park (with free on-street parking) and it is situated in a quiet and peaceful corner of Leith, renowned for it's vibrant and lively shopping, bar and restaurant scene. Newly refurbished in 2015,the lounge is bright and spacious (south-facing) open-plan, with extraordinary high ornate ceilings and lots of Georgian characteristics, including period fire places in all the room, the lounge with its own remote controlled gas fire and ornamental surround.

About Morris Paton

I worked as an actor for many years and as a radio broadcaster on the BBC, presenting arts programmes. I'm also very interested in cultural tourism projects and in 1996 created The Edinburgh Literary Pub Tour, an award winning tour performed by professional actors. It runs throughout the year and Rick Steves, presenter of travel programmes USA wide, is quoted as saying in a recent review, "for an entertaining insight into the greats of Scottish literature, served up with new friends, good beer, and lots of laughs, The Edinburgh Literary Pub Tour is my vote for the best way to spend an Edinburgh Evening!" so can't be bad!! "Truly lovely flat! Great welcome from Morris who was both charming and helpful. The flat was spacious, well decorated. Short bus ride to both old and new towns. Can't recommend highly enough!"

"If you hanker to experience living for a short while in grand architecture then this is the one! The area is very close to Edinburgh proper so don't be worried about the location. The townhouse combines heritage features with modern updates (newish bathroom and kitchen). There is a park across the street, shopping close at hand and good bus service to the major tourist sites. The best part about staying in Leith is the calm refuge it affords. Lastly, Morris who owns the townhouse is very helpful. He has a hand in the arts and has operated a literary pub tour in Edinburgh for the last 14 years. The actors who lead the tour are terrific and it's well worth taking in..Morris can give you the details or look it up on Google."

Notes on accommodation: The main door is only ten minutes to the city center, Princes street, by bus and a stone's through away from the fashionable bars and restaurants of fashionable Leith - with a Conran designed cinema complex and shopping mall, "Ocean Terminal" and home to The Queens ship "The Britannia", equally just 5 mins away. There are wonderful bars and restaurants only 5 minutes walk away on the Quay side, three of which have several Michelin Gold Stars, virtually unheard of!! Leith definitely has its own distinctive charm and energy and like many areas close to the historical docks, its buildings and streets tell many a story. It's a "cool" place to stay in Edinburgh as it presents an opportunity for "real Edinburgh living", easy free parking and a much more relaxed feel than that of central Edinburgh. Come for The Edinburgh International Festival - the largest arts festival in the world! Or for a once in a life time "Christmas and Hogmannay Special"! Outside: Just across the road from Leith Links - extensive parkland with play ground and recreation facilities for kids. A 5 minute walk to Leith docks with great restaurants and bars along the quay side. A 10-15 minute walk to Ocean terminal, great shopping, multiplex cinema and The Royal ship "Britannia" etc. Utility Room: Hidden utility room off the kitchen containing Bosch stacked washer and separate dryer. There is also a high performance steam iron and board. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels and linens are included in the price and a maid / cleaning service can be arranged by negotiation for longer lets. Other: A few steps lead into the ornate vestibule ("garden chairs" located - handy for sitting on top step on sunny day! Through a stunning stain glass door, and original flag stones will lead you down the hall and to the various rooms off.

Just got back home from Scotland yesterday and wanted to thank you for the use of your beautiful home for a memorable Christmas holiday. It worked out fabulously for our group of 7 plus our Frenchie Bruce and I would not hesitate to recommend your home to anyone looking for a convenient, comfortable and elegant place to hang a hat for an extended period of time, 14 days on this trip!

We spent countless hours in the living room enjoying our family, the fireplace, the warm ambiance and excellent Gin and wine!

As described, parking was readily available right outside the door with a beautiful park complete with a fenced in area for the dog to run off leash right across the street.

Beautiful old building with a ton of character in a very convenient location away from the downtown core yet with easy access via cab, car or bus.

This is the second time I have used one of Morris's properties for our family vacation and I cannot say enough about his prompt, professional and genuine attitude.

The beautiful beaches of East Lothian are approx 30 minutes away by car, with the nearest "town beach" of Portobello just 10 mins away by car or bus.


Edinburgh is a bit of a village and very accessible on foot with an excellent bus service. The airport bus will take you to Waverly Station in about 25 mins, where I would recommend hopping into a taxi which, will deliver you to the door in approx 10 minutes. If you do decide to hire a car for day trips etc then there is free and easy parking on the street directly outside the apartment.


Stirling and the Wallace Monument - approx 1 hour by train from Waverly.

St Andrews - approx 1.5 hours by bus or slightly shorter by train to Leuchers and then on by bus from there.

Highlands and Loch Ness approx three hours. There are many excellent day trip and longer journeys available from a host of company's via The Visit Scotland website.

Further Details:

large Tesco supermarket just at the end of the street. Large Liddel supermarket (much cheaper with a quirky continental range) one block round the corner. Marks and Spencers is located at The Ocean Terminal Shopping Center a mere 10 minutes in a taxi. Leith is a haven for excellent bars and restaurants and various guide books and eating/drinking guides will be available in the apartment.

50% of total rental fee is payable in advance to secure your dates. The remainder is payable six weeks prior to arrival. Terms and conditions of booking are sent out with a confirmation email at time of booking. A security deposit is authorized against a credit card, but only processed (subject to duration of stay) in the unlikely event of damages etc. The housekeeper or the owner will be there to welcome you, show you round and pass on the keys.

Changeover Day:
Check-in is normally by 14.00pm and check-out by 11am unless by prior arranagement.

Notes on prices:
Prices are subject to change at the owners discretion and are based on 2-4 people sharing. Price on request for five occupancy. The owner reserves the right to charge £50.00 fee in the event of late check-in or check-out, whereby no prior information or change of schedule has been forwarded or arranged.
