About the property

3 BR/3BA Lakefront Mountain Cabin With Incredible Views

NEW RENTAL starting November 1, 2016! This comfortable, well-cared for 3 bedroom, 3 bath home is situated on Lake Cardinal on 2.5 private acres of wooded property -- part of the beautiful Lake Toxaway community. Perfect for families or couples looking for a secluded retreat, with plenty of activity within steps from the front door or a short car ride away.

The Lake Toxaway community is located in the heart of a pristine landscape, surrounded by more than 10,000 acres of national forests and state parks, four of which border the property: Gorges State Park, Nantahala National Forest, Pisgah National Forest, and DuPont State Forest. Lake Cardinal is an exclusive section of Lake Toxaway Estates that afford the guest peace and quiet on a 'no gas engine' lake separated from Lake Toxaway by a dam. Lake Toxaway is available for guests via the Marina, where boats can be rented for half day, full day or a week to enjoy water sports on the 'big' lake.

The beautiful towns of Brevard and Cashiers are about twenty minutes away and Highlands is forty minutes. Asheville and its famous Biltmore Estate are an hour's drive.

The first floor features warm pine floors in the kitchen and dining room and a new wood burning stove. The open layout is perfect for family gatherings, game nights, or watching a movie on the new flat screen TV (DirectTV is available). The first floor bedroom features a queen bed and attached bathroom. The two bedrooms upstairs both have en suite bathrooms, one with a queen bed, one with two twin beds. The house also features multiple outdoor seating areas, including a covered porch with porch swing, two screened in porches (one with a dining area and one with comfortable seating), and a sun deck with chaise lounge chairs. The home is in pristine condition, recently purchased (in 2015) from original owners and updated with brand new furnishings throughout, including new beds, new hardwood floors upstairs, and refinished decks.

*Pet policy: With prior permission, we allow up to 2 well-behaved, house trained dogs - our fees are $50 for the first dog and $75 for two dogs for your stay.

About Vanessa H.

Hello! We're sisters Amanda and Vanessa and our family purchased Cardinal Cottage in 2015. We both love Lake Toxaway, the surrounding parks and forests and local towns. We're both avid hikers, enjoy canoeing, kayaking, and paddling on the lake. We hope you enjoy this home as much as we have!

Why Vanessa H. chose Lake Toxaway

Because you are set up from the lake, nearly view from the house gives you sweeping views of the lake, but with a treehouse feel! There's nothing better than waking up in the morning and sitting on the porch with a warm cup of coffee and taking in the views and nature. But, if you want more activity, it's all so close by -- from renting a powerboat on the big lake, to heading to nearby Brevard or Cashiers for incredible food. It's the best of all worlds.

Beautiful House & Beautiful Setting

  • 5 of 5

We arrived on Thanksgiving Day 2017 and departed the following Monday morning. Vanessa was gracious to allow us to shift our stay from Wed. thru Sunday to Thursday thru Monday, and made every other facet of our rental smooth and easy.

Location on Lake Toxaway was spectacular with views of the lake from all rooms and a walkway down to the dock. We took full advantage of both the open and screened porches to enjoy the view .... and the unseasonable 60 degree late November weather. The access roads and sorrounding forest offered many hiking opportunities with the added bonus of aggressive hills to push our hearts and clear our heads. Thanks Vanessa for a great weekend.

Peaceful, isolated and quiet [except for the melodic waterfall by the deck]...

  • 4 of 5

A wonderful get-away. Clean, well-kept, the TV was easy to operate, with plenty of channels. The living area and bedrooms are spacious. Other than a few movies, we read on the dock and on the large decks and screened porches. It is very private. We let the dogs roam and explore the 2.5 acres. We paddled the French Broad River through nearby Headwater Outfitters. A neat hike, walking from the cabin, up the Toxaway River. The owner was kind, wanting to ensure that we enjoyed our stay...and we sure did!

Power outage ruined a wonderful time

  • 2 of 5

We were fortunate to be able to book this dog friendly lake house at the last minute as we fled from Hurricane Irma. The house is lovely and the owners were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately Irma followed us and we had a pretty intense wind and rain storm. The power went out and that precludes fresh water as the house is on a well. No lights, no heat, no refrigeration, no water ( think toilets flushing). The owners had installed a wood heating stove in the fire place and that worked well keeping the chill off but the lack of water and refrigeration was a real problem. The owners brought us flash lights and firewood. We ended up carrying water up from the lake to flush the toilets but left early to return to our Florida home which liikewise had no power. We do have water and a generator though. Had the power not gone out this stay would have very enjoyable as the views are fantastic and the home very modern and comfortable. The owners are very friendly and helpful but, alas, they cannot control the weather.

Owner's Response: Ken, We're so sorry that we couldn't keep Hurricane Irma away from you and your party, but hope our efforts with extra provisions and refund for early departure/no power helped some! We would love to host you again under better circumstances to enjoy Lake Toxaway and the mountains. Warmest wishes, Vanessa and Amanda

Awesome location, very comfortable house.

  • 5 of 5

Great place and beautiful house to enjoy the gems of the Blue Ridge region, or simply recharge batteries on a lakeside, pristine and quiet (no motor boats on the upper lake). Owners were very easy to communicate with, friendly and helpful.
