Two Luxury Apartments
Our home, Domaine des Chevaliers, is a small private country estate in the Var, 40 kms north of St Tropez in the wine lands. It is part of a beautiful medieval village that dates back to pre-Templar times.
It is the setting that gives this property its uniqueness. The views of the hills and forest give a sense of space, and the grounds and streams provide a clear link to nature. It is secluded without being isolated. The whole area offers spectacular scenery with vineyards, olive groves, and the world renowned Gorges du Verdon and Lac St Croix within a short distance. Airport, road and rail links are within a short distance.
We live in the main house. We have been successfully renting the guest cottage, which is 150 metres away, in the summer for more than six years.
This attractive, bright and airy second cottage of approximately 160 m2, with 116 m2 of terraces, is situated inside the electric gates to the property, providing privacy for both houses, security and easy car parking. It is currently arranged as two apartments. Built in 2007/8 with a traditional roof and insulated throughout, it features high ceilings and visible beams with lots of light and space.
The 2 luxury apartments - with 5 star ratings on Trip Advisor and Owners Direct - one of 68m2, with one bedroom, and a second of 92m2 with 2 bedrooms, all with en suite bathrooms. Each unit has its own entrance and south facing terraces with furniture. The apartments have fitted kitchens, underfloor heating, air conditioning, stone floors, fast Wifi (10GB), satellite tv. The furnishings are modern and comfortable with beds, bathrooms and kitchens fitted to a high standard. White linen and towels are provided for beds and bathrooms, and pool towels. Basic household goods are supplied (includes loo rolls, soap, washing materials, condiments, olive oil, tea, coffee etc.)
The 11 metre heated salt pool is 150 metres from the guest cottage. It has gentle steps into the pool and an electric cover. It is open at all times. Easy access for the disabled. There are sunbeds and parasols. On the far side of the pool is a boule pitch.
The grounds (15 acres) provide lovely walks and are open to all guests. They are landscaped with many mature trees and shrubs. On two sides there are streams with a waterfall. The whole forms a very beautiful, tranquil and undisturbed setting, ideal for wildlife, and for gentle strolls and quiet contemplation.
We do like to talk to guests before they make a booking as we can then answer questions and discuss payment terms. We are happy to call you at a convenient time.
Normally we ask 50% on booking and the balance 6 weeks before. You can pay by cheque, bank transfer or via Pay Pal. We have a simple contract that protects both parties. We are happy to provide references if you require. We take a security deposit of £350 payable on arrival. It is refunded one week after departure.
Pets are especially welcome (except for large and untrained dogs!). We have a small friendly dog. We can also arrange dog sitting if you want to leave him/her, although all restaurants welcome dogs here. Dogs are welcome at the pool, preferably on a lead, but not in it!

Peaceful and relaxing
High quality open plan studio for two people. Everything you could need and spotless. Highly recommended.
Book with caution! Not quite what it appears...
The location was fantastic and the property itself had the potential to be great but it was let down by:
A) the standard of cleanliness - not checked before arrival following gap between visitors hence found leftover food in fridge, dust/dirt in bath and cobwebs over furniture;
B) a badly leaking shower head - easily resolvable with a washer that we found in a drawer but shouldn’t have been in that state for a letting;
C) numerous instructions/stickers with ‘do’s/dont’s’ - we appreciate that the owner doesn’t want things damaged but the number of instructions was a little excessive and not exactly the most welcoming start for any holiday, and
D) poor communication - relating to access to the pool (which thankfully wasn’t an issue for us as we were happier swimming up at the lakes) but more particularly, no response over return of the refundable deposit which we have subsequently discovered was over the French legal limit that can be charged (be warned!).
Whilst the owner was polite, compared to previous holiday rentals in other destinations, we were somehow made to feel that we were an inconvenience to their life and purely there as a means to generate income, which we feel was reinforced by the non-return of our deposit.
So, in summary, we would suggest that there are better alternatives for holiday rentals in the area but if you do book, proceed with caution.
When this lady and her boyfriend stayed at my apartment - which is on the same property as my home - they assured me that there were no problems and everything was wonderful. So you can imagine my surprise at this spiteful review. I have been renting these 2 apartments for 8 years and have never had a bad review like this one - 95% of the time reviews have been 5 which is the maximum. There was a problem which required me, for the first time in some years, to make a deduction from the security deposit. They were asked specifically not to touch the electric pool cover until they had been shown how to use it. They ignored the instruction which resulted in extra work for the pool man and additional expenses, all documented. They could have caused serious damage to the cover. Hence the unpleasant review. The flat is beautifully cleaned weekly, the shower head did not leak when I checked it, and they were made very welcome as all my guests will endorse.

A spotlessly clean and well appointed apartment was waiting for us on arrival after a long drive. Real home from home stuff. We received a very warm welcome from the owner who gave us a great debriefing on all the local attractions and where the best restaurants were.
Our holiday plans went only as far as rest and relaxation in a safe and peaceful environment and we achieved this at Domaine des Chevaliers. The pool was amazing and the property itself was an excellent place for our dog who had a great time exploring and getting in touch with his inner wolf. All that space was a shock for a small apartment dog.
We can not recommend Domaine des Chevaliers highly enough and we will definitely be returning for some more glorious peace and quiet. Thanks Anne.
Family of 4 who stayed there for 1 week. The apartment had everything we wanted, and we really enjoyed the pool, the nice view from the terasse, and also going for a walk in the small forrest surrounding the place. The place is ideal both for visiting Gorges du Verdun, but also for day trips to Nice and Cannes. Our host Anne was so helpful, nice and friendly - never have we had such a good host! We can only recommend the place, and would not hesitate going back!
Lovely 1 bedroom guesthouse
A wonderful hostess, fantastic grounds, relaxing terrace, and a comfortable 1 bedroom guesthouse. The shared swimming pool was a treat and we totally enjoyed our stay. The area is perfect for exploring all of Provence - you can go south to the coast or north to the lavender fields, lakes and gorges. We will happily stay again. M&J
It is 1.25 hours drive to the beaches of St Tropez and surroundings. It is 30 minutes drive to the Gorges du Verdon where there are beaches, restaurants and many activities, from walking to canoeing etc.
Approx 1.15 minutes by car from Nice airport, 45 minutes from Toulon and 1.45 hours from Marseilles. TGV train stops at Les Arcs 25 minutes drive away, and at Aix-en-Provence, where cars can be hired. If renting a car please ask Anne for best experiences as at Nice airport the wait can be long in the season.
Rates & Availability
We normally ask for payment by bank transfer, cheque or paypal - 50% on booking and the balance 40 days before arrival. We have a simple contract which is operated under English law. The security deposit is due on arrival in cash and is refunded no later than one week after you leave. Our cancellation policy is 40 days before. Deposit is lost unless we can re-rent the apartment. In exceptional circumstances we will change the week if possible. We do not pay bank charges or Pay Pal charges for transferring money to us - that is down to the guest, and if we transfer money back to you, we pay the charges.
