The view from the top.
The views from this well-appointed villa are really spectacular, although there is one section of the only road up from Plaka, that is very steep and has a sharp drop on one side, which is not for the faint hearted with low powered rental cars. We were pleased to be welcomed to the villa by Stephan, who pointed out the comprehensive welcome pack, which had everything needed to avoid an initial trip to the local supermarket. My daughter made good use of the gym to burn of some of the calories gained from the excellent food in the restaurants of Plaka. There were luxuries provided, like the good quality toiletries and bathrobes, which are not things that we had experienced in other villas. The biggest downside for us was the uniform depth of the pool, which at around 5 feet, was not suitable for my wife who is only 5 feet tall and a non-swimmer. If the dimensions and depth of the pool had been included in the villa's description, would probably not have selected this villa for our holiday because she does enjoy using a pool. Although this detracted a little from our holiday, we all still had a very enjoyable stay. I would probably rate the villa as a 4.5 Star
Fabulous villa, superb location!
Well, what a great week we had at Villa Daedalos! Don't think we've ever stayed anywhere where it was better throughout than shown in the photos. What a fantastic view and such lovely grounds. What we couldn't believe was how private it was. There is another villa next door, also owned by the family, but it is completely screened by shrubs and fencing. We were met by Stephanos on arrival and food/milk/juice was waiting for us so we could have lunch without rushing out to shop. The grounds are so beautifully designed that you have somewhere to sit in sun/shade throughout the day, and the villa is fully air conditioned. The sunsets over the mountains were stunning, and the exterior lighting makes for beautiful evening in the pool/seating areas. We spent our time 50/50 between the pool and trips out to Phaistos, Knossos, Arkadi monastery, Heraklion, Chania. We ate out several times in Plaka, which we walked down to from the villa. The walk down is very easy, but the journey back is very steep, but we thought still worth it to be able to enjoy a few drinks! (Also, the first time you drive in to the villa, be prepared to be in first gear for the very steep section which you may come across quite suddenly!) We also ate lovely pizza in Kalyves at Il Forno, and had a lovely meal by the sea at Thalami in Almirida. We were all so sorry to leave after just one week, and would love to return. Thank you so much to the family for sharing your beautiful villa with us.
A wonderful house with stunning views.
This was our second stay at Daedalus and we had a such a wonderfully relaxing time. The house itself is fabulous, with everything a family could want. But for me it's the stunning view you wake to every morning that makes this a very special place.
Villa Daedalos sits at the top of a hill with stunning views across the bay and down to the village of Almyrida. The Bolarakis family, who were charming and very helpful, have thought of everything to make your stay as comfortable and easy as possible, even providing a mobile phone with a Greek SIM card for local calls and a telescope to make the most of those views! The villa was spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped. A welcome basket of fruit, fresh bread, milk and wine was provided and very much appreciated after a day's travelling! The gardens are beautiful and fragrant with plenty of different seating areas to provide either sun or shade but, from wherever you sit, you can still enjoy the views. There is even a small swing and a seesaw for the children and an outdoor kitchen with a barbecue and pizza oven. The infinity pool was a little chilly in October but would be wonderful in the heat of the summer. We could happily have spent every day lazing around the villa, but we did tear ourselves away to explore the towns of Chania and Rethymon (both of which were lovely) and the Palace of Knossos.
The quaint village of Plaka is a short distance away and has several tavernas/cafes and two mini-markets which sell all the basic necessities (we didn't need to venture to the larger supermarket during our week's stay). Almyrida has more shops, restaurants and a beach with shallow water, ideal for younger children.
In summary, Villa Daedalos was, for us, the perfect villa. We do a lot of travelling and there are only a few properties to which we would consider returning. Villa Daedalos is definitely one of them.
Thank you to the Bolarakis family!
A beautiful villa in a stunning location.
Villa Daedalos is a beautiful villa in a stunning location. The villa was very clean and was exactly as described. The gardens are beautiful with plenty of areas for quiet relaxation whilst looking out at a truly magnificent view of the bay and the mountains. The owners are lovely people who offer exceptional customer service. We could not have been looked after better. We would not hesitate in recommending this lovely villa to our friends.
Luxurious villa with breathtaking views
We loved this villa so much we often stayed home all day and lazed by the pool, admiring the wonderful views. It's a perfect spot for a spell of total "surrender yourself" relaxation, and evenings on the terrace watching the sun go down were just perfect. When we did go out, the restaurants in the village made us incredibly welcome and we ate and drank very well.
