Guestbook comments from the owner

"Absolutely perfect, perfect cottage, perfect surroundings. It has been the most relaxing holiday we have ever had. Would love to come back again."

"A lovely homely cottage in a beautiful location. Sitting at the table watching the birds and occasional visit of a red squirrel was a joy."

"We found this cottage ideal for our base to visit different places in the Lakes. The views alone are just fantastic and we have had a brilliant time. Just wish we had longer here. We will be back for sure!"

I have really enjoyed my week here. A great base for walking, but just wonderful setting and yet close to Ambleside. Night skies fantastic for my telescope and wild life in the garden a joy to watch. Never before seen red squirrel so close! But the views are to die for ! I hope to be back again"

"Beautiful cottage in an idyllic location. Stunning views and very peaceful. Just what we needed. Thank you so much, hopefully see you again next year."

Outside: Ash Cottage nestles in 20 acres of fell-side grounds managed for conservation. Beech hedges add to the seclusion and privacy within the garden and orchard. The sunny patio has wooden table and chairs for "al-fresco" dining and a love seat, and looks out over a stunning panorama of peaks. There is also a stable for bikes, where a BBQ and recycling facilities are stored. Red and Roe Deer roam freely. Buzzards soar at eye level. Red Squirrels build their drays here. Lovely cottage with beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

The cottage has everything you need and is an ideal size for two. The views are amazing, both from the windows and the private patio, which is a lovely and sunny. The bed is comfortable and kitchen well equipped. The owners were very helpful and filling the bird-feeder with peanuts was a nice touch. Great location with some good circular walks possible without the need to drive. Would recommend and plan to return.

Relaxing week at Ash Cottage

  • 4 of 5

Ash Cottage is in a fabulous location in the grounds of the owners property overlooking the Elterwater Valley. Our hosts were welcoming and very accommodating, the cottage was cosy with quality furniture and fittings. Our dogs were also made welcome and there was plenty of space for them to exercise.

We loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Ash Cottage! The scenery is stunning from every angle and Judy and Andy have thought of everything we could have needed for our two week stay (albeit I hadn't realised we needed to bring our own towels, sorry!).

Lovely and secluded and private - we had a fabulous time there with loads of lovely walks outside our front door as well as nearby by car. We were very sorry to leave.

NB. Because it's secluded, it wasn't easy to find so we'd advise making sure you have all the directions with you as signal isn't strong on mobiles there! No wifi either but we survived!

Owner's Response: Delighted you enjoyed your two weeks in Ash Cottage and had everything you needed. Sorry you missed the details re the towel service, we have tried to highlight this for future visitors. We have investigated the provision of WiFi in the cottage several times, but on each occasion this has proved non viable. There are WiFi facilities in nearby cafe's. Thank you Tony and Jennie for taking the time to write a review. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future.

Idyllic. , peaceful a real getaway from it all.

  • 5 of 5

We both loved this cottage so much we didn't want to leave at the end of our stay, it was lovely to wake up in the morning and make that first cup of tea and then to be able to sit and watch the birds and squirrels at the feeder and after that to be able to step straight out onto the fells , marvellous will definitely come back here .

Cosy, peaceful and perfectly located cottage

  • 5 of 5

After a long, tiring and frustrating journey of over eight hours, all our stress deteriorated when we arrived at the cottage, set back from the road in glorious scenery. Andy and Judy made us so welcome, even leaving us a bottle of wine after the bad journey; it was a touching gesture.

The cottage was a perfect size for the two of us and our dog, a luxurious bathroom and cosy rooms to come back to after walking in the hills. Walking straight from the door across the fells to many hills was a nice surprise, with plenty of wildlife at the door to the cottage. There are plenty of details inside the cottage of places to visit/eateries etc. and we had no trouble getting into a local pub for new year's eve dinner with our dog. We thoroughly enjoyed our peaceful retreat, thank you Andy and Judy.
