Why Andy & Judy Clark chose Ambleside

Questionable value for money with difficult access and no wifi
Rooms much smaller that expected. Lacking washing machine and dishwasher yet remains highly priced rental. Exceptionally steep driveway very off putting. Wifi non existent and underfloor heating in bathroom not working - also foul odour in bathroom.
Had to cut week's holiday short as husband became unwell. Only stayed for 2 x nights - disappointed that no refund (partial or otherwise) was considered by owners.
Lake District is beautiful, but becoming extremely overcrowded and expensive - much better value from holiday rentals in Scotland therefore unlikely to return to the Lake District area.
Thank you for your review.
Ash Cottage has spectacular views because of it's location high on the fellside, therefore the drive is "steep" as are many roads and passes in the area. WiFi installed a year ago has been enjoyed by our guests without problem. User name and password are supplied and it's connectivity is monitored.
We describe the Cottage as cosy, which many guests appreciate and is appropriate for two.
The underfloor heating is permanently on, but the trigger point is temperature dependent. It was a warm time.
After being in contact, an "odour" was mentioned in the bathroom . This was repeatedly checked over the following days but no smell detected at all. The next visitors, in for two weeks, were asked to let us know if there was a problem. Happily nothing was detected at all.
We were very sorry indeed that Mr. Home is unwell and the decision taken to return home. We do recommend in our written communication with guests that insurance is taken out for all eventualities.
As genuine local owner/managers, we strive to ensure our guests really enjoy their holiday.
Stayed from 21 July 2018 for 1 week. Lovely house, small but very large bathroom with excellent walk in shower. Really just right size for 2 people. For me the bed was too firm, so didn't sleep well, a mattress topper would help a lot..... Everything you could need in the kitchen. I loved the private patio area (owners live beside the rental property but did not interfere with the enjoyment of your hols). They have a separate stable beside the rental property now used to house your recycling bins, but would be good if they have an area within the stable for you to hang your gear to dry rather than having to ask the owners to dry for you overnight (got wet one day that it rained in the afternoon but managed to dry without having to ask). The views were just AMAZING and a walk available without having to drive anywhere. We had absolutely brilliant weather, actually a tad too hot for walking, but this didn't put us off. If you want to eat out you need car to drive there, but lovely spot and can highly recommend.
Thank you for your review highly recommending Ash Cottage.
We are sorry the bed was too firm for you. Beds are very subjective and we thank you for your suggestion. The rotary drier in the garden is well used by guests for drying items in good weather. We offer drying facilities as we have a very useful warm boiler room, brilliant for wet boots and clothes. Many of our visitors do use this facility.
We agree the views are absolutely amazing.

Welcoming and comfortable. Ideal relaxation spot.
We had a fantastic week. Cottage well equipped and clean. Weather could not have been better. Garden to relax in and well maintained.
It was lovely to meet you both. We are delighted that the perfect weather enabled you to enjoy the garden, and to relax with nature for company.
Relaxing week at Ash Cottage
Ash Cottage is in a fabulous location in the grounds of the owners property overlooking the Elterwater Valley. Our hosts were welcoming and very accommodating, the cottage was cosy with quality furniture and fittings. Our dogs were also made welcome and there was plenty of space for them to exercise.
Lovely cottage with beautiful views
The cottage has everything you need and is an ideal size for two. The views are amazing, both from the windows and the private patio, which is a lovely and sunny. The bed is comfortable and kitchen well equipped. The owners were very helpful and filling the bird-feeder with peanuts was a nice touch. Great location with some good circular walks possible without the need to drive. Would recommend and plan to return.
It was lovely to meet you and thank you for writing such a complementary review. We look forward to seeing you both again here at Ash Cottage.
We loved it!
We loved our stay at Ash Cottage! The scenery is stunning from every angle and Judy and Andy have thought of everything we could have needed for our two week stay (albeit I hadn't realised we needed to bring our own towels, sorry!).
Lovely and secluded and private - we had a fabulous time there with loads of lovely walks outside our front door as well as nearby by car. We were very sorry to leave.
NB. Because it's secluded, it wasn't easy to find so we'd advise making sure you have all the directions with you as signal isn't strong on mobiles there! No wifi either but we survived!
Delighted you enjoyed your two weeks in Ash Cottage and had everything you needed.
Sorry you missed the details re the towel service, we have tried to highlight this for future visitors.
We have investigated the provision of WiFi in the cottage several times, but on each occasion this has proved non viable. There are WiFi facilities in nearby cafe's.
Thank you Tony and Jennie for taking the time to write a review.
We look forward to welcoming you again in the future.
