About Jeanette Rogers
I have lived in France since 1999 and fell in love with the area. Purchased The Marronnier in 2006 and renovated the barn and adjacent cottage. For the last 8 years I have rented out my home. It is rated excellent with over 40+ TripAdvisor reviews.

Why Jeanette Rogers chose Coulaures
Its location is what makes it special to me. Located at the back in a tiny hamlet that has more barns than people and with tracks and trails straight from the doorstep I love being so close to nature. The wonderful stone properties in this area and the fact that it is a region renown for its truffles makes it truly unique.
What makes this Barn unique
The walled garden, formerly the potager is now home to the swimming pool and raised garden beds where I continue to grow fruit and vegetables.

Well appointed property for a relaxing holiday in beautiful rural area
Well appointed space for big groups (good bath/shower ratio); we also rented the cottage across the courtyard which provides 2 additional bedrooms and bathroom. Le Marronnier has a lovely shaded terrace for eating out; a good gas-fired BBQ (griddle style) makes for easy cooking and a charcoal kettle style BBQ is also available. The pool-side facilities are great too with plenty of sun-loungers and cushions and a shaded area with seating and tables - a lovely spot for an evening drink as the sun goes down. The pool area would suit young children as it is fenced and has an alarm and the pool is not too deep, though it did feel a little cool in inclement weather! During this poor weather, our group of 12 were able to sit down together inside and eat round the big dining table. There is a "depot de pain" in Coulaures, 5 minutes away(also does croissants/pains au chocolat), but unfortunately they were on annual holiday for most of our stay. There is a new Super-U approx 15 minutes away, near Excideuil which has several good boulangeries/patisseries (we recommend the fruit tarts!), a boucherie/charcuterie and so on. It's only half an hour in the other direction to Perigueux with its vibrant Wed and Sat markets and stunning cathedral (plus a Hyper Leclerc this side of P). Our group enjoyed kayaking for half a day on the Auvezere from Cubas to Tourtoirac - where there are some fantastic caves open to the public with amazing "concretions". But our favourite day was just enjoying Le Marronnier in the sunshine, playing table tennis, boules, badminton, dipping in the pool, cycling around the lanes, strolling over to the next hamlet, sitting on the terrace....
Peace and Tranquility
We have just got home from 2wks at Le Marronnier and had an amazing time. Jeanette was a very welcoming host and helpful throughout, from booking right through to tips on best places to visit/eat.The Barn felt like a home from home, beautifully furnished in a rustic chic to suit the character of the building.... the photos don't do it justice. The Barn was well equipped with all we could want including UK Freeview TV. Barn has swing set, trampoline, badminton, table tennis and a selection of bikes in addition to the pool. The location a lovely rural hamlet with local walks....my kids had a great time spotting all sorts of wildlife, including a young deer that would visit the garden some evenings. The pool was great, surrounded by the fragrance of lavender, and was kept very clean and being heated was always at a lovely temp for swimming, even on the cooler days. Whilst off the beaten track we found we were never too far away from attractions in the Region and would recommend Branthome/kayaking as a fab family day out. Periguex was about 25mins away with shopping/museums/restaurants. If you want a relaxing holiday in the beautiful Dordogne, then I would highly recommend this place. We spent many great days relaxing by the pool, picking fresh tomatoes, raspberries and peaches from the garden to eat with our lunch under the gazebo....idyllic. If I were to think of any feedback, we couldnt find any outside lighting if you wanted to be outside after dark?.....but we are already looking to rebook for next summer...so I guess enough said!
