About Helen Burton
We moved to the Dordorgne in 2005 having fallen in love with the area on holiday the previous year!!! When we walked into the walled garden it was love at first sight. We had 3 children under 3 and the house and garden gave us all the space, freedom but security we had so longed for. It felt like the countryside but in a small town. The walk into Riberac is only 5 to 10 minutes and offers all basic services. We wanted to be able to walk to the bakers and school.
Helen Burton purchased this House in 2005
Why Helen Burton chose Ribérac
We loved the rolling countryside and tranquility of the area. Our property is very private but not isolated. We love beng able to walk to the market. We are within an easy drive of bigger towns such as Perigueux and Brantome and all our visitors love to visit the very picturesque village of Aubeterre just 15 minutes away.
What makes this House unique
We offer a fully detached main house and independent gite all within a beautiful walled garden. The pool is large with a shallow and deep end, and a wooden deck where you can relax. The kitchen is fully equipped and opens out onto the garden making outdoor eating very convenient. After several years of renting gites for our own family, we do hope we can provide you with a peaceful and beautiful environment in which to enjoy your holiday. Please do feel free to ask if you have any special requirements.

Wonderful house with only a 10 minute walk to centre of Riberac. Lovely & clean with a fully equipped kitchen - home from home. Heated pool and very comfortable beds with good quality bedding .We were so pleased with our booking.
A brilliant location with an holiday home that is stunning
We took our extended family and everybody was overwhelmed by the space and facilities it had. In our 2 week stay we had unseasonably bad weather so the heated pool was a real bonus and so large. The grounds are very large so the children can roam around and explore but very safe as it is all surrounded by high walls hence only one way in and out. The hosts Mark and Helen could not do enough for us even ferrying us to catch our plane. The house has masses of games and things to do for children if the weather turns bad. The surrounding area is stunning and I would recommend the tree climbing in St. Aulaye and canoeing in Riberac. I have no hesitation in recommending this gite as it is everything it says on the website and more, in fact it is not an holiday home because it feels like your own home because of all the personal touches around the home. The cottage next to the house is a real bonus and as grandparents it was good to go there for a bit of tranquillity as it is fully self contained.A truly stunning property.
Superb house & stay-couldn't have asked for better
The owners are very nice and contacted us prior to arrival to ensure we had directions to the property and to ask if we wanted any supplies (milk, etc) brought in for when we got there. Helen also asked the ages of our children so she could leave out age appropriate toys which was great. The house was stunning. It was better than we had hoped and the facilities are second to none. Helen and Mark had gone to the trouble of getting in some fresh bread and milk as well as a few bottles of wine, which were enjoyed!
The pool was the best thing and the boys loved it. The fact that it was heated helped as we spent most of each day in there. The grounds are lovely too and there were fresh cherries on the tree when we were there which we got to enjoy. The property itself is very safe and secure, with gated entrance and ample off-road parking.
The house itself is well equipped with everything you could possibly need. There is a great DVD collection for the kids which went down well with my boys and kept them out of mischief when they got a bit tired.
The town itself is only a 15 minute walk away (max) and has a few nice restaurants, bars and cake shops, as well as bakeries and butchers. It is a quaint town, typically French. There is a small park for the kids and some water fountains too which my two enjoyed playing in. There are various supermarkets close by too. We tended to get meat from the butchers and use the BBQ at the house for dinner.
There are various places to visit that are only a short drive away.
As I say, Helen and Mark go above and beyond their call of duty and made our stay completely stress free.
We absolutely loved the place. We are already looking at dates for next year!
The best holiday house we have ever stayed in.
We have stayed in many holiday properties over the years but this is simply the best. Helen and Mark are truly special hosts who provided a very warm welcome and ensured that essential items as well as copious bottles of wine were available to make sure we didn't have to dash out on a buying spree the moment we arrived. The house is beautiful, spacious, warm, and genuinely homely with loads of toys for the small people, great washing facilities and a fantastic garden with a fenced off swimming pool that averaged 29 degrees during our stay. There are lots of wonderful towns, villages and areas of countryside to explore nearby and thanks again too to Mark who managed to arrange for some assistance, remotely, from his friend Stefan when my co-pilot forgot to remind me that our car was low on diesel and we ran out in the middle of no-where on Bastille day.
Thanks to both our hosts for a wonderful experience... we will be back.
Perfect especially if you have children
This is an amazing manor house plus gite with a huge garden which our two year old grandson described as not a garden but a park! It's a brilliant house for any group but if you have small children it could not be bettered - completely secure pool, great array of toys, games, books, and unlimited play space. The owners are extraordinarily helpful and welcoming while at the same time leaving you to get on with your holiday. We could not recommend La Charrouffie highly enough.
Beautiful property in lovely French town
We spent a wonderful two weeks at La Charrouffie this summer. The accommodation is very spacious and well furnished (great kitchen in particular) and the grounds are delightful. The large heated swimming pool is fantastic.
The house is a 10-15 minute walk from the centre of Riberac, which is a decent sized town with a number of nice restaurants. The house is also well located to delve into other parts of the Dordogne, including the very pretty village of Aubeterre.
We received a very warm welcome from the owners and it felt like we were staying in a friend's house.
We would without hesitation recommend La Charrouffie to others.
