About Suzi Brennan
We live in North London with our 4 lively children, and get out to France as often as jobs allow!
Suzi Brennan purchased this House in 2009
Why Suzi Brennan chose Castelnau-Valence
We chose this house because it is the perfect location, between the Gardon River (The Gard) and the Cevennes hills. We love the beach, so we wanted a property within an hours drive. The river is also really accessible, offering canoeing, fishing, jumping from rocks, or simply sunbathing on the river beach. Best of all, the property very easily accessible, as it's only a 30 minute drive from Nimes airport (fly here with Ryanair from Luton or Liverpool), and there are at least 4 other airports within a 2 hour drive
What makes this House unique
This property is ideally suited to family groups as it has lots of space for everyone and is geared up for children. We love the peaceful setting too, best for hanging out around the pool and then taking day trips out to the many local attractions. Then watching the sun set over the vineyards during the evening BBQs.

A good property for a large group
This property has excellent accommodation for 3 families with 2 young children and another couple. Our families had a great time in the excellent pool, but many of the paving stones around the perimeter are loose and could result in losing balance on the edge of the pool. The parasol by the pool is broken and requires replacement. Toilets are stained and need equipping with brushes and disinfectant blocks or the like. Waste bins would be an advantage in bedrooms and bedding was restricted to duvets for some beds or just a sheet. On cooler nights, those without duvets were cold. The option of a blanket would be a good solution. The air conditioning is restricted to three bedrooms. One in a 1st floor room leaked water and a bed had to be moved away from the wall as it became wet. But during the week, that leak materialised as a large pool of water in the adjacent room. Otherwise, rooms are equipped with effective fans. Hanging facilities for clothes is very limited upstairs. The water is very hard and limescale build up is an issue. Neither coffee machine was operative and had not been maintained. In summary, an excellent property which needs a deal of tlc. It was not cleaned thoroughly before our arrival. My contract with the owner has been excellent, but the local staff are not making sufficient effort especially considering the substantial compulsory cleaning fee.
It's great to hear that the house worked well for your big family group and that you enjoyed the large pool. I am sorry to hear that you experienced some issues during your stay. I responded immediately to those that you reported and believed most to have been fixed at the time (descaling the coffee machine, etc). But I will now discuss these with the local agent and ensure that they are all dealt with before the next guests arrive. With regard to the air conditioning, these units are newly fitted and we are having teething problems with the upstairs unit, which we are currently looking into.
All in all, I appreciate the feedback and will make sure it is acted on.
This holiday was a large family holiday with adults and children ranging from 9 to 92. The villa was homely and well equipped for our stay...actualy that's an understatement it had everything and more., charming character, every domestic appliance and kitchen utensil you need,, stuff for the kids.like games, pool table as well as a table tennis table. Bedrooms were spacious and several were airconditioned, sever bathrooms again all large and no issues with hot water when you wanted to use them at the same time.
Location was fab for us in a little village nice and quiet but only a short ride to the local shop and bakery.
The jewel in the crown was the pool, it's nice to have what it says on the tin for a change. A big pool that accommodated us all at the same time the kids were in from dawn till dusk. This ment wd had the perfect family holiday all together laughing, eating ,enjoying and making memories.
Booking the villa was not the best but I'm glad we persaveared.
The managers in france were perfect they left us alone but were there in a flash when we needed them, polite and pleasent on all contacts.
I contacted the owner several times who again was so helpful suggesting days out, places to eat ect.
I could go on and on about our visit but everyone wants to know the answer to the real question.
Would we go back and would I recommend this villa?
You guessed it in a heart beat value for money, what it said it was and we have amazing memories.
Thanks again 👍😁👍😁👍😁👍
Thank you so much for your kind words.
I am glad the house and pool worked well for your large and varied group ... from 9 to 92 is most impressive!
You are all welcome again any time, we would be delighted to have back such pleasant guests.
A great place to stay.
The property is clean, comfortable, characterful and with just about all you need to guarantee an enjoyable stay. We were a big group but there were more than enough cups, glasses, plates, etc. and the dishwasher did sterling service. We were the first group of the season so there were one or two teething problems, but the local agent, Guillaume, was very helpful and when we contacted the owner she responded immediately. There are plenty of interesting places to visit in the area and the local wine is excellent value. If you want to relax and enjoy life with family and friends, this has all you need.
Thank you for your kind words. I am delighted that you enjoyed the house and surrounding area. You were a super guest to accommodate, very understanding of the start of season teething problems, great communication and very clean. You are welcome back any time!
Nice big property, lovely pool, great for large family but could do with better upkeep
We travelled to France with 14 family members - 8 adults and 6 children - and this house was certainly big enough to accommodate us all. While we had a super getaway with all these pros; the sizeable pool, plenty of outside furniture, a ping pong table, new grill, spacious bedrooms, new bathrooms and a beautiful area, there were unfortunately some problems with the house and facilities promised.
On arrival there were no tea towels, oven gloves, dishwasher was broken (later fixed but only to break again, you can imagine washing up four times a day for 14 people.) No bedroom or bathroom bins, old, dirty dish cloths, shower that didn't drain and bathrooms that weren't cleaned up to standard. Also the outside bins were overflowing. I will say that the owner had a caretaker come over quickly to rectify what they could but sadly we were still left with some issues. The website advertised 2 bikes on site, but only one was working and we were also guaranteed that the 4ft bed in one of the bedrooms would be changed before our arrival since it wasn't big enough for a couple to sleep in. This however wasn't ever changed.
As I said, we did still have a great holiday, but if the details above were improved and the house maintained a little better it would have made it fantastic!
I am glad you enjoyed your stay back in August and that you were able to take advantage of the benefits of the house, patio and pool suitable for such a large group.
It is of course disappointing to hear that you didn't find the house as you expected it in some aspects and I was pleased that Florence was able to fix the snagging issues immediately.
We have now added the king size bed to the second downstairs room. The dishwasher and bike issues are resolved, both of which had recently occurred during a previous rental earlier in the season.
So, all is looking good and it's been great to have your feedback, thank you!
Beautiful home in a great location
We enjoyed a great stay here in late July. The house itself is clean, well-equipped and very spacious. We were 14 altogether and the house was more than big enough to accommodate us all. The bedrooms were very comfortable and there are plenty of bathrooms to go round, no queues! The kitchen was fully kitted out with all the right equipment for when we wanted to eat in, and there's a lovely sitting room off the kitchen.
The outside area is particularly good - great pool with beach steps which extends foot height around the whole pool. There are two huge dining areas, and a barbeque which was very easy to operate.
In the surrounding area there's plenty to do, all the basic supermarkets and bakeries. Would particularly recommend a trip to Uzes. There's also an amazing vineyard near the airport that we ended up visiting twice!
All in all we had a perfect holiday here and I look forward to returning again for another visit.
Fabulous holiday in beautiful, spacious house
My girlfriend and I enjoyed an all too short family holiday at Castlenau Valence. The property is on the edge of a little village, between Nimes and Ales and about 20 minutes from the lovely duchy of Uzes. We stayed as part of a large group and there was plenty of room for everyone. The house is large and comfortable, with large and well equipped kitchen / dining room at the centre, making cooking a pleasure, and has everything you could possibly need (plus the large utility room is great too).
There are two dining areas outside and a barbecue so our evenings were spent outside enjoying the warm evenings and gorgeous sunsets. There was also ample patio space - one large terrace with tables for lunch and another under a brick built shaded area. This has a built in BBQ and we were delighted to find there was also a large gas grill too, so we had the choice of charcoal or grill. The weather was superb for the whole week so the pool was in constant use - it was a great pool for our large group (really big!) and was really secure, which was reassuring for our little one.
We loved the nearby medieval town of Uzes, with a fantastic market and good restaurants, particularly for lunch in the ‘Place aux Herbes’. For swimming, we either ventured to the nearby river beach (and loved jumping off the rocks here!) or to the beautiful beach at L'Espiguette. All in all a fantastic holiday at a relaxing holiday home.
