About Laurie Tancula

Bob and I live and have raised our four sons in Louisville, Kentucky. We are both natives of Chicago suburbs, so we root for Chicago teams no matter where we’re at. We’ve lived in Kentucky for 22 years now, so it’s home. Our oldest son moved to California after college, and loves San Diego. We have two sons in college in Kentucky, and our youngest is in high school. We try to get to our home in Montana every chance we get, but are also excited to have other folks take advantage of it while we’re not there and discover northwest Montana and fall in love with it like we have.

Laurie Tancula purchased this house in 2015

Why Laurie Tancula chose Kalispell

Bob has wanted to buy land in Montana since he was a kid. In 2015 we were blessed to make that dream a reality! We started vacationing in northwest Montana a few years ago. We’d come in the winter to ski and spend Christmas in the beautiful winter wonderland. We’d come in the fall to hike and bike. We were here in the summer to boat, hike some more, and white water raft. We looked at real estate every time we visited, but when Mont Ashley became available, we knew our search was over. Mont Ashley has plenty of room for our family and friends (our boys bring more boys), but still feels cozy and inviting. The sun setting on the lake is breathtaking. The herd of deer that runs through our yard is a site to behold! Montana is so full of treasures and we’re excited to share them with you!

What makes this house unique

Our home has it all, just pack your clothes and a spirit of adventure! We’ve stocked the kitchen for all of your cooking needs, including spices, flour, sugar and coffee, pots and pans and dishes, to name a few. We have plenty of linens for showers, etc. as well as for the lake. We have a wide variety of movies, board games and a Wii game counsel with plenty of games for it. So whether you’re looking to go hiking every day or curl in, you’ll feel at home!

The perfect family reunion home!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! We stayed here with our entire family - my mother, my siblings and all the grandkids! Our ages ranged from 9 months old to 70 years old! The house is much larger than the pics would suggest and it was clean, well maintained and wonderful for a family from all over the states to be together for an entire week! The bathrooms downstairs even had the door that separates the toilet and shower from the sink so MANY people could use the bathrooms simultaneously. The backyard is the most beautiful space, entertaining us with lots of kayaking, bonfires, and - for the brave kids - swimming (we went at June's end so it was pretty chilly mountain water but ultra clean and gorgeous!). The garage was enormous, allowing those of us who camped along the way to organize our gear for the journey home to the mid-west! The kitchen was our gathering space, with TONS of room to lay out family meals and gather at day's end after having explored nearby Glacier Nat'l park and other great hiking trails in the area. Even the locals were kind - my husband and I got a run in with Glacier High's CC team while in town! This is absolutely a 5 star residence! Thank you so much for welcoming us into your home! Two things to note for potential renters: remember that you're in a very remote area in a home with high quality doors....be sure to close them completely each time you enter and exit because the sliding doorwall doors with bounce open a crack if you're not paying attention and let in the mosquitoes. Once we realized this, the little guys left us alone. They were not bad at all in the yard. Last, if you're a recycling fiend like we are, know that the centers near the house take paper/cardboard and aluminum only. No need to keep the glass and plastics at the house unless you plan to pack it out. Also, be sure to sort;) This was truly the reunion of a lifetime for our large family. We could not have been more happy with our stay!

Great property; unfortunate circumstances

  • 3 of 5

This is a beautiful home, with wonderful furnishings and in a great location. The lake, the dock, and the kayaks, canoe, and raft make for great fun on the water. The view of the lake from the house deck is serene. Our stay was marred by three things. The temperatures were right around 90, and cooled down somewhat slowly in the evenings. Lack of A/C was an issue. And, as we were warned by the owner, they were having a real deer mouse problem this summer. We saw several deer mice in the unused fireplace and on the deck, and the smell of dead mice was bad in the garage and somewhat less so in the pantry. But the real problem was the neighbor - who spent four straight days using power tools to repair, sand, and pressure wash his deck - one day until 8:30 p.m. The noise kept anyone from using the deck for reading or dining on those days. And then he capped off the week with a loud party on Saturday night that lasted until 11:40 p.m.

When the temperatures cool, the mice are gotten rid of, and the neighbor (and his three dogs) moves, this will be a five star property.

Owner's Response: We're sorry you weren't completely satisfied with your stay. When we learned about the mice, we did everything in our power to get rid of them as quickly as possible. We felt so bad about it, we refunded you 20% of the price of your stay. It's unfortunate that the timing of our friends' work on his house coincided with your stay.

Excellent home on the Lake

  • 5 of 5

Home was ready for my family to check in. There are plenty of things to do in the area but really enjoyed visiting with family from a couple of different states. Was able to come back and use the well stocked kitchen to cook our dinners. The kayaks were great. If I had to pick a couple things that could have improved our stay it would have been to have steak knives available. Looked all over for them. Might have just missed them . Also I wish we did not have to worry about transporting the trash to the landfill over 10 miles away. No matter what you do you will end up having at least one bag on your last day trying to get to the airport or leave early in your vehicle before the landfill opens. Let my final words be positive because the owners and their home is fantastic and I would definitely reserve this home again, if I ever visit the area again.

House was great! We loved it

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words, we are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay. Thanks also for the suggestion about steak knives. With regard to the trash, given our remote location, the dump sites are our only option. We do allow for folks to leave any and all trash, and for a small fee, we will have it hauled away. We do hope you will come back and stay with us again soon!

Beautiful home, beautiful views

  • 4 of 5

We very much enjoyed our stay with our daughter, husband and their children. A lovely property and the lake and the views were amazing. We had young children with us [ 6, 4 and 2], which had given us some concern before we arrived. However, there were gates on the stairs that were very secure, and we had no issues. The boys did need wet suits to go in the water in June --- a bit chilly!

We had a great time, however something needs to be done to correct the trash situation. We had a very early flight and the trash pick-up area was too far away and was not open at that early time. Plus, we had already driven earlier to take trash to the dumpsters.

I have never had to do that with other VRBO homes.

There were kayaks and a canoe also, which allowed the adults to really enjoy the lake and its beauty.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us. With regard to the garbage issue raised, we were caught by surprise when we first started visiting Montana as well as we found that folks there haul away their own trash. However, that comes with the territory when you are in remote locations. We do allow folks to leave the garbage behind if they're running short on time, or just don't get to it. For a small fee, we'll have someone take care of the trash for you. However, if our renters want to save that expense, they can haul it away themselves.
