Located on the top plot of a small complex of 9 villas it offers total privacy and is not overlooked by other properties. It is unique in so much as there are 3 levels to the property. The lower level contains the garden with a variety of fruit trees, shrubs and plants. There is a flight of steps up to the second level, a large shaded patio area surrounded by fragrant honeysuckle and bougainvillea, a great place for a barbecue. About David Addy
Being half Greek myself, with roots in Chania, my wife and I decided it would be great to visit the island and see if we could trace some of my roots. We first visited Crete in 2002, we hired a car and toured the island for 2 weeks. The more we saw of the island, the more we loved it and we both said it was the place we wanted to retire to later in life. Luckily a UK company were building several projects in the Roumeli area and when we first saw the plot we now own, there was no hesitation in making our decision. Even as a bare plot the views were stunning. We were also able to design the internal structure, turning what was our dream into a reality. Once you've visited Roumeli and the nearby resorts, you're hooked, there is a kind of magic about the whole area urging you to return!
David Addy purchased this Villa in 2004
Why David Addy chose Mylopotamos
Irinikos Villa is in an elevated position offering fantastic panoramic views of the whole valley, miles of olive groves, vineyards, farms and mountain ranges in the distance. Being high up also affords us total privacy, the villa and pool are not overlooked by any other properties. The village itself has 2 great supermarkets, 3 Taverna's a couple of local sleepy cafenions and a public telephone, everything you may need and all within a 5 minute walk from the villa. A 20 minute walk takes you to the lovely unspoilt seaside resort of Panormos. There are some great sandy beaches, any number of tourist shops and terrific Taverna's catering for everybody’s taste in this village. For the more adventurous there are also beach rides and boat tours running from the small but very quaint harbour.
What makes this Villa unique
The villa is a quiet, relaxing retreat and unlike other villas has 3 levels, the top level with the villa itself, a swimming pool and ample patio areas to soak up the sun. Covered pergola areas offer a quick retreat if, as is often the case, the sun gets too hot. At night you may want to stand or sit on the balcony, watch the moon ripple on the Mediterranean across the valley and listen to the chirp of cicadas. A short flight of steps from the top level takes you down to a second and more shaded patio area surrounded by fragrant honeysuckle and bougainvillea bushes where your can still see across the valley but in a more shade and cooler area. Continue down the steps and it takes you into the lower garden where you can just wander around looking at a variety of plants, trees and shrubs. You may even see a local peacock or two as they live wild in the valley but are not shy or dangerous in any way.

What a wonderful experience
The whole experience from the moment I booked to after we reached home following our holiday has been fabulous. The personal touch given by Veronica and David and Cheryl and Stephanos has been a new experience for me and one which shall be hard to beat. The directions to the villa given by David were flawless and meant we had no issues meeting up with Stephanos at the allocated spot and both David and Veronica were always around to answer any questions (I am sure I drove them a little nuts). The villa itself is in a peaceful location which feels as though you are far from anywhere but, in reality, you are less than 10 mins drive from nearby restaurants and beaches. The journey from the airport is very easy - one road all the way with stunning views.
I went away with my two teenage children who just wanted time out before all the exam stresses begin and we were able to get exactly that but if you wanted to travel further afield, I know David is a font of all knowledge and could direct you to some of the best places to visit.
I want to say a special thank you to Cheryl who arranged for a birthday cake to be waiting for us for when we arrived as my daughter was celebrating her birthday while we were there. It was delicious and midnight cake and candles by the pool made for wonderful memories for my daughter.
The kids are already planning on who they might take with them next time ... and I'm considering a separate girls only trip too ...!
Just a quick note - there is no air con and so can get warm at night but fans are provided and there's always a midnight dip in the pool to cool you down!
A lovely tranquil villa in a beautiful setting.
We had a fantastic break in David and Veronica's villa in Crete it was everything we wanted plus a lot more. They were a pleasure to deal with and prompt in answering all queries. It was so peaceful and in a lovely setting that we wished we could have stayed a lot longer. Once there, any queries are soon dealt with by Cheryl or Stefanos who live nearby. We can't speak too highly of the villa and everyone who made our break one of our best ever. We hope to be back next year. Very many thanks to all.
Lovely homely villa in a very picturesque location in crete
Had a lovely week at Dave and Veronica's villa in crete! And definitely planning to return. The villa was very well equipped and had everything we needed. The rooms are spacious and clean. Directions and Arrival is very well organised. The scenery that surrounds the villa is exceptional and it is very secluded.
The pool area is perfect having shaded areas all day long. Beautiful breakfasts over sunrise and tranquil dinners over sunsets - just perfect
Really nice villa with superb views in a central Cretan location not far from some great beaches at Bali and Panormos. Very well maintained, clean, modern accommodation. Only downsides are no Wifi or UK TV but bring DVDs and books instead! No air conditioning either - which didn't bother me - but fans are provided. The pool is great with steps at one end - check the depth, as it's the same throughout if you have kids. Our two (8 and 10) managed well enough though it was just out their depth by a few inches. Quiet village with an excellent Taverna and local shops in walking distance. Ideal location to explore Crete - with a car being a necessity, of course. Owners and locals were very helpful. Would highly recommend for a relaxing and quiet stay.
Special interest holidays:
We are always willing to try and help you obtain any information you may request about specific interests or hobbies you may want to experience whilst on Crete and have experience with a variety of hobbies and interests.
A 15 or 20 minute walk takes you to the small tourist village of Panormos which has a variety of sandy beaches and pebbled coves. A 10 minute drive down the coastline will take you to the very popular tourist resort of Bali which has some really wonderful sandy beaches. A 25 minute drive takes you to the main town of Rethymnon which literally has miles of sandy beaches between there and Heraklion for you to choose from.
The villa is approximately a 40 minute taxi ride from Heraklion airport and about a 55 minutes taxi ride from Chania airport. Unless you don't wish to leave the villa property during your stay we very much recommend you hire a car as there are so many wonderful sights to see across the island. We would be more than happy to highly recommend the company we have used for the last 10 years on request
The villa is on the boundary of Roumeli. Less than 2km away is the sleepy resort of Panormos with is quaint cobbled streets, fishing harbour and beaches. 6km away from the villa is the small town of Perama. 10km away is the popular tourist resort of Bali. A 13km trip to the interior takes you to the hand crafted pottery and lace producing villages of Anogia and Margerites. Rethymno with all its sights is a 25km drive away and a must visit for all, Knossos palace in Heraklion is about 65km away.
Shops that cater for nearly all of our guest’s needs are within a 5 minute walk from the villa. The nearest medical centre which can easily be found is located at the top end of the village. The nearest cash point can be found in Panormos less than 2km away and the nearest bank is located 6km away in the town of Perama along with plenty of choices for shopping, from DIY to supermarkets, clothes stores, dentists and chemists.
For those seeking a little more fun, Panormos is the local place for beach rides and local sightseeing tours. Rethymno has a lot more to see and do in terms of historical sightseeing, tours and culture. There is also a great open market in the old part of the town where you can buy almost everything. There is also a ferry port in Rethymno that you can use for day trips to several other islands, the beautiful island of Santorini for instance.
The capitol, Heraklion and Chania offer more sights and facilities than can be seen in one day. Guests should perhaps plan a day’s visit in advance. There is a fantastic water park about 1 hours drive away from the villa, a really good day out for the family. Waterworld can be found high in the hills near the islands most popular tourist resort of Malia. The plains of Lasithi and Osmalos plateau, one of the largest plateaus in Europe where most of the islands produce is grown are also fairly close by. The trip up there takes you into the mountains and you will see some stunning views.
An hour and a half in the opposite direction and across the island gets you to the south coast on the Libyan sea. The waters on this side of the island are crystal clear and there are some really great areas for diving and snorkelling. The sea life swims around your ankles as soon as you step into the water. There are several ancient sites, main tourist resorts and beaches to visit along the south coast. At the eastern most tip of the island is the resort of via, the only tropical resort in southern Euro
