About Olwen Mason
Olwen and Ian Mason have been providing holiday let accommodation for several years in Rock, York, Surrey and Berkshire. They have won several accolades for the standard of their accommodation and now feel they know much about what makes a property attractive, comfortable, properly equipped and above all stress-free for a perfect stay.
Olwen Mason purchased this Bungalow in 2001
Why Olwen Mason chose Rock
Bought as a holiday home for our own family. We had been staying in Cornish hotels for several years previously and loved the area so much we wanted to buy our own property. The Camel Estuary area has to be one of the most beautiful areas of Britain and has recreational pursuits such as golf, sailing, surfing, swimming, walking and cycling to make it ideal for all the family. This area has an abundance of great restaurants and is within an easy drive of several beautiful gardens, historic houses, and children's theme parks.
What makes this Bungalow unique
We chose our property because it is out of the wind which makes dining outside such a pleasure. You might get a great view on the cliff tops around Rock but you wouldn't want to sit outside much of the time. We also like being able to pop out to the wonderful local food shops without having to get in the car and then search for a parking place. We are tucked away from the main road which can get very busy in summer and enjoy peace and quiet whilst being only a minute away from great facilities.

Holiday in Rock
Very well equipped bungalow in a quiet location in close proximity to the village shops. Lends itself to a very comfortable stay.
Excellent accommodation. Owner very helpful and friendly.
A perfect holiday
We’ve had a wonderful time in Rock. I’ve been coming to this part of the world on holiday for almost 50 years and this cottage is the perfect place to stay. Thank you.
Thank you for your very kind review. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your stay.
Lovely quiet area. Beautiful beaches and stunning landscapes. Lots to do and quality food available. Local shops outstanding, especially the butcher and baker. Bungalow well equipped. For some reason one of the double bedrooms with ensuite did not have bedding or towels. It did not spoil our week in Rock.
I'm sorry about the slip up re how many beds were made up. The housekeeper misunderstood. I hope you were able to access the linen cupboard with the code I gave you and find a set of linen and a towel.
Excellent location for a family holiday
The property was maybe undersold from the description. Much larger than the pictures suggested!
Glad we had booked a property with a good garden - great play area for the grandchildren. Rare to find a property with the the instructions for the appliances clearly accessible. Did need this to sort out the codes on the electric showers!
Once we have instituted a 'firm' rota for shower use, no problem. Do not all try and run the three showers at one time!
More than enough dishes/knives and forks etc for the eight of us.
Great to have two fridges in the kitchen - did not need to use the drinks fridge in the utility room.
Excellent location - very pleased we had not chosen a property at the harbour/beach end of Rock. So useful to have the excellent shops 5 mins walk away. Very quiet location.
And less than 10 mins drive from quality beaches!
The only minor issue might be if the party had older children (our grand children are 5 and 7). Fine for them in the small children's room but older children might be a bit cramped given that one of the beds is quite small?
Excellent property and good value. Would book the property again!
The house is in a great location in the centre of Rock, within easy walking distance of shops and beaches. Really well equipped and very comfortable fr a party of seven adults. Would book again
Thank you for your kind words. They are much appreciated.
Rock beach and Porthilly Cove are approx a 15 minute walk
Daymer Bay is a longer walk but only a five-minute drive. Parking is available at the entrance to the beach.
Polzeath surfing beach is approx 7 minutes drive from the property with parking available on the beach.
Newquay Airport is 22 miles away. Bodmin parkway is the nearest railway station - approx 15 miles. There are buses to and from Polzeath and Wadebridge which stop very close to the property.
Port Isaac a charming fishing village where Doc Martin is filmed is approx 7 miles away - a short drive. Padstow, made famous by Rick Stein is a short ferry ride from Rock or can be reached by road - approx 8 miles. Wadebridge, a charm with several interesting shops as well as supermarkets is 5 miles away and easily reached by car or bus.
Rock has some very good food shops. Lewis's is an excellent deli stocking quality provisions, artisan breads, fantastic cheeses and patisserie. It also does great coffee in its cafe. The Spar is highly useful for everyday goods and has excellent local fruit and vegetables. There is a very good quality butcher and a fishmonger while Barnecutt's is a fantastic bakery selling fresh bread, desserts, ready-made locally provided meals and great Cornish pasties. Rock also has a newsagent and a selection of shops selling yachting-style clothing.
