About Wendy Hughes

Clive and Wendy live in Bristol in the UK and have just purchased their second property in Spain. We fell in love with La Cala whilst holidaying in Spain and bought our first apartment in Las Mimosas in 2003. We have recently acquired a lovely villa and hope to spend more of the winter months here. We spend several weeks of the year in La Cala and rent out the property for the rest of the time. Why Wendy Hughes chose La Cala de Mijas

We have been coming to La Cala for fifteen years now and love the location. This villa has the advantage of having a central position in a quiet cul-de-sac but also being very close to the beach. There are very few villas on the beach-side of the main road and we are proud to own one of them. Our clients and visitors always comment on how much space there is, both inside and out and even with large groups, there are still plenty of restful areas for people to retire to. The busy little town of La Cala is a short level walk of about five minutes, providing many restaurants and bars, a park, shops and a market. It has one of the best beaches on the coastline and is about 20 minutes drive from Malaga and Marbella. The beachside Boardwalk now links the centre of the town with the town of Riviera and the link to Calahonda will soon be completed.

What makes this villa unique

The location is absolutely perfect - close to the beach and the town. With so many facilites close by, it is not necessary to rent a car. The villa itself is very spacious and with it's many terraces and sitting areas, you have the opportunity to be in the sun or shade as you prefer at any time of day. With a large private pool and well maintained garden - what more could you ask for!

Notes on accommodation: This is one of very few villas in La Cala that is on the beach side of the main road. It is a newly acquired villa and it has been tastefully restored to it's former glory with many modern features. The first four summers of rentals have been very successful and all our tenants have been delighted by the villa. The cellar and all the bathrooms have been refurbished. Last winter we made improvements to the rear terrace, pool and surrounding area including new tiling and privacy screen. Outside: Mature gardens to front and rear. Ground floor front covered terrace with relaxing sofa and chairs. Very sunny first floor front terrace leading off large landing. Rear first floor terrace accessed from bedroom 2. Large private pool at rear with sun loungers and relaxing furniture. Rear covered terrace adjoining the kitchen and overlooking pool and rear garden with outdoor table and chairs. Very efficient coal BBQ at rear of villa. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included. Please do not take the white towels outside the villa. A few beach towels are available and if used should be left clean for next guests. Cleaning and towel/linen change can be organised during your stay for an extra charge. Other: Large landing area with sofa and chairs leading onto front terrace. Internal staircase leading down to newly converted games room with snooker table and table tennis table. Also has a small kitchen area and toilet / shower room, sofa-beds and futons. Whether you prefer sitting round a private pool, going to the beach or visiting local bars and restaurants - it is the perfect location.

Beautiful Villa, Perfect Location, Great for Families

We visited La Cala de Mijas for ten days in March/April 2019. The villa is perfectly located a short walk from the beach although, the children loved the pool, pool-table and gardens so much that they would've been happy not to leave the villa at all! Though we are a large family we could easily have fit another family in the villa with us, the kitchen is large and well-equipped and the verandas to front and back are lovely spaces for eating, game-playing etc.

We enjoyed the coastal walk along the beach and found a couple of lovely bakery/cafes which served a huge range of ice cream. We would definitely recommend the villa and hope to come back as soon as we can!

Outstanding Villa in a prime location for the beach and town of La Cala.

We as a family have been holidaying in La Cala on and off the past 20 years and have stayed various apartments and villas but this villa is the very best and is top notch. We are a family of 5 adults and 1 child and when you book a holiday you think what are we going to get, well on arrival we were met by a meet and greet lady called Wendy who was absolutely fabulous in showing us around this superb villa. On entering you immediately see how the owners have cared for this property, the outside grounds leading around to the swimming pool are spotlessly clean and tidy with more than ample room for families to sit in the sun and shade if necessary. There is a well furnished sitting area to both the front and rear for people to relax.

Once inside you immediately see how clean and well furnished the villa is it is obvious that the owners have taken a lot of time and consideration to make your stay here more than home from home. It has a very large kitchen which has all the modern appliances and can easily seat 10 persons. Off the hallway on the ground floor is a twin bedroom with a bathroom off to the side, upstairs there are three very large double / twin bedrooms with bunk beds which all have large bathrooms ensuite which are spotlessly clean and well furnished, one of the bedrooms leads off to a rooftop sunbathing area, all the bedrooms have modern air conditioning which is a bonus. There is also a reception area on the first floor which leads onto a rooftop sunbathing area.

Outside to the rear is the swimming pool which is spotless and is not to deep and is ideal for families and children to enjoy in safety it also has a lovely BBQ area as well, there is more than ample sun loungers and a shaded seated area for everyone to enjoy without being overbearing. All in all this is a superb villa which is situated in a cul de sac less than 5 minutes to the beach and park for children and less 10 minutes into LaCala town.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I would like to thank the owners for the privilege of letting us use it I wished we could have stayed a lot longer but I will be returning there.

Any family looking for a place which is better than home from home should book this villa.

Excellent holiday in the heart of La Cala

We have just returned from our second holiday in Villa Alegria. The villa is in a superb location , minutes from the beach, local park, shops bars and restaurants. It is very well maintained with air conditioning in all bedrooms, a lovely pool and spacious gardens, and plenty of space both inside and outside the villa. The booking process was very easy, both Wendy in U.K. and Wendy in La Cala are extremely friendly and helpful. We have already booked for next year- much to the delight of our grandchildren!!

Villa Alegria La Cala de Mijas

We had a great holiday at the Villa Alegria. Its very well equipped and all four bedrooms have air conditioning units and ceiling fans which was great as we were there during a heatwave.

The pool was a real sun trap(it got really hot there as there was no breeze) but also had shaded areas when it did get too hot.The pool though its not heated was warm enough not to shock you as you entered as it gets the sun all day.

BBQ area which we did not use, lovely big table on the patio overlooking the pool for meals,plenty of crockery and cooking equipment.Games room in the basement.

Sun loungers and umbrellas provided.

Couple of supermarkets nearby, a nice local bakery cum cafe also nearby, and the beach is a two minute walk away.Lots of restaurants in the village catering for all tastes. Nice seafront walk with beach bars.

Villa owners very helpful and gave us lots of information pre booking and all communication with them was excellent.

The reason I dont give it five stars is that the furnishings are a bit tired looking but that said

its all perfectly comfortable and most of the holiday was spent outdoors by the pool or sitting at the table overlooking the pool.

We enjoyed our stay at the Villa Alegria and would happily go back.

We stayed as a group of friends and family during May half term 2017. Everything about this villa was fantastic. The space, the pool, the cleanliness and the location. Wendy and Clive thought of everything, providing us with a home from home experience. The meet and greet lady Wendy contacted us on arrival (as we flew in very late) to ensure everything was to our satisfaction.

The villa is located in a quiet road, just off the beach yet close to all the amenities, including Lidl. It had air conditioning in all the bedrooms which was a godsend after a day sat at the pool. Having 7 children of a young age in the group, security was also very important -the villa was completely enclosed with a walled garden and double locking gates and doors. It is a beautiful villa and location. Thank you very much Wendy and Clive for allowing us to stay your beautiful home! We would definitely stay again and are already saving for next year!! La Cala beach is one of the best sandy beaches on this coastline. The villa is just one street back from the beach and you can walk there in less than 5 minutes. There is a new Promenade / Walkway that now follows the coast and connects from the centre of La Cala to Calahonda and will soon continue as far as Cabopino.


Malaga airport is 25km away - 25 minutes in a taxi. An alternative to a taxi is to get the train to Fuengirola and then it is only a 10 minute taxi ride. A car is not necessary as there are local shops and restaurants. The town of La Cala is only 5 minutes walk. There are also good bus connections.


Marbella and Puerto Banus are about 30 minutes drive. Fuengirola with zoo and water park is 10 minutes drive. Benalmadena with interesting marina and cable car is 20 minutes drive.

Further Details:

Many beach bars and restaurants within 5 minutes walk. Closest supermarket 5 minutes walk. Various shops and internet cafe 5 minutes walk. Lovely newly refurbished park 5 minutes walk.

La Cala town has many banks, shops, bars, restaurants and supermarkets and is a level 5 minute walk - either along roads or the beach. Market days are Wednesdays and Saturdays.

50% deposit paid at time of booking. Balance is payable 8 weeks before the holiday. £250 returnable damages deposit also required.

In the event of a cancellation, we will return the deposit only when a new booking has been made to fill the cancelled time. The returned funds will be at the rate of the new booking. We will also support any valid insurance claim.

Changeover Day:
We are flexible with changeover days and will adjust to suit flight times of clients. Check-in after 2.00pm and check-out by 10.00am unless previously arranged with the owner.

Notes on prices:
We offer discounts for longer periods of time and also for returning customers.

  • 100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
