House in Exoudun, Deux Sevres, Poitou-Charentes, France - Peaceful Rural Location, Only 4 Miles From Pretty Market Town And Many Other Attractions
About Lisa Hulyer
The owners are a forty something British family who live in The UK with their young son. They love the French lifestyle, mostly the fabulous wine, food and wonderfully sunny climate, allowing for lots more outdoor activities which they enjoy greatly.
Lisa Hulyer purchased this House in 2012
Why Lisa Hulyer chose Exoudun
We fell in love with this village whilst driving into it as it a very pretty and historic location, the house was absolutely gorgeous and and we decided to buy it on the spot. Having rented for several years in this area we knew that we loved the sunny climate (second sunniest in France). The 10m X 5m heated pool gives us and our guests the private swimming we enjoy, with graduated Roman steps for little ones. We also very much enjoy our winter visits which are very cosy with the woodburning stoves throughout. It's very peaceful with lots of very attractive countryside to explore and we enjoy the secure enclosed nature of the house and its grounds. There's also lots of local colour to enjoy at different times of the year. A great house for family Christmas get togethers too.
What makes this House unique
We are foodies and it's a great location for lots of markets and great wines to sample, being within 4 kms of the lovely town of La Mothe St Heray and others. Our village is an unspoilt medieval treasure trove and really does feel a bit lost in another time. We also love the picturesque rivers that provide great canoeing. We are only 40 mins from the amazing Futuroscope theme park with a science twist which kids of all ages go mad for! Our other condition was that it wouldn't be too far to drive here should we wish to take the Channel tunnel or the ferry and it has proved very easy. One can also TGV from Poitiers to Paris for a days shopping and lunch, or travel to Cognac an hour or so away. The fabulous beach near La Rochelle (Chatelaillon Plage) is amazing, as is the Ile de Re just over the bridge from here. If none of that appeals then just soak up the sun by the pool and watch the swallows dip into the water for a drink..We have provided everything that we as a modern couple with children require to be really comfortable whilst retaining the wonderful 18th Century features of the house.
Spacious well equipped gite
Just right for a family of 10. Kitchen well equipped and plenty of space for everybody. Good leisure facilities and a superb pool. Situated in a beautiful rural area "off the beaten track".
Pity there were no shops in the village but found everything we needed 10 mins away by car.
Thanks so much Colin, we hope your special event was a great success. Do visit us again another time, you were the perfect guests!
What a fantastic place to stay
This is a beautiful old house, plenty of rooms to get lost in. Perfect for 9 of us plus dogs for our 2017 Christmas break. Very rural, away from it all, but having big supermarkets close by for everything you need. Lisa has been extremely helpful and supplied all the information we needed. Highly recommend this retreat.
Thanks so much Greta, delighted to have been able to help you have a great Christmas. Hope to have you visit some other time.
Superbly equipped, beautiful French property
This stunning property is situated in a very characteristic French village and is exceptionally well equipped for family stays - the pool is fantastic, the kitchen has every appliance you could possibly need and the games room with pool table and table football are perfect for evening entertainment as is the table tennis table. A car is a definite necessity as the town is not within walking distance. A fabulous stay - thank you.
We LOVED the pool (and everything else!)
We will definitely be returning to this beautiful, spacious and well appointed house, set in a “movie-set pretty” medieval village. We had everything we could ask for, including the fabulous heated outdoor pool, games room, large and well-appointed kitchen and various dining areas. Thanks to our hosts Lisa & Paul’s suggestions, we made an easy overnight trip to Paris, and another day trip to a lovely beach on the coast while we were there. An unforgettable family holiday. Until next time!
Amazingly beautiful home in a Quaint Village!
We spent a wonderful month as this amazing old farmhouse in a quaint Medieval Village. The pool is absolutely beautiful with lavender bordering it on two sides and a deck with many lounge chairs and over-sized umbrellas. The pool was a big hit with our kids and everyone who stayed with us. The house was way more spacious than expected and the dining & kitchen areas became favorite hang out spots with the wonderful sunlight filtering in from the skylights. The house has everything you could possibly need and Paul and Lisa were very helpful making recommendations for things to do. We enjoyed the open-air markets in many of the nearby towns as well as our day trips to Puy du Fou theme park, Les Vallee Des Singes, Mouton Village, Velorail & Bird Show in Chauvigny, Cognac, Chateau Villandry in the Loire Valley, & many more. There are so many fun things to do with kids in the area and we didn't do it all in one month. Make a reservation at Mad Hatter's Kitchen at least once during your stay--very nice staff, charming environment, and great food! We highly recommend a stay in this amazing and comfortable house--it will be the perfect home base for your next holiday. The history of the house and village is fascinating. Be sure to ask Lisa more about it. Thank you Paul & Lisa for a perfect holiday!
A simply gorgeous house with stacks of character and interesting nooks and crannies. Large enough to accommodate plenty of guests (we were a group of 10) in comfort, with loads of options for socialising and dining. Our favourite spot was the terrace with BBQ which was perfect for sunset aperitifs.
The house was very tranquil (quiet village location), well equipped and was spotlessly clean- it even passed the Granny inspection!
We loved the pretty gardens, where we were able to pick grapes and berries and the pool was just perfect. The kids just didn't want to get out.
Would love to return for a winter holiday and try out the wood burners.
We would highly recommend.

Historic Bagnault and its neighbour Exoudun have been awarded the coveted status of "Cite de Caractere en Poitou Charentes" due to its picturesque nature. Its medieval history includes settlement by the Knights Templar and it lies on the famous pilgrim route to Santiago De Compostello in Spain. It is also on the famous Route Du Chabichou (Goats cheese trail!). There are very many cycle tracks to explore its wonderful wildlife.
