About Gary & Rachael Lee
We moved into Au Sabate after my mother passed away and are continuing with the rental of the lovely gite, set in acres of country side, yet local to Condom & Lectoure etc. We have 2 large Rhodesian Ridgeback dogs and 2 cats and 2 new kittens (all very friendly!) who love the land and surrounding woods. We also have 4 chickens.
Gary & Rachael Lee purchased this House in 2015
Why Gary & Rachael Lee chose Caussens
We love the slow, laid-back lifestyle of rural France, which revolves around enjoying the surrounding, magnificent countryside, beautiful ancient villages and towns steeped in history, gardening, entertaining family and friends in this idyllic situation with its hot summer climate. The climate, local cuisine and wine, and practically empty roads, make it the perfect place to live and enjoy life!
What makes this House unique
A great benefit is being in the middle of the quiet, rolling countryside, and yet just 5 kilometers from the pretty market town of Condom, a Cathedral town which bustles with tourists in spring and summer. Very nearby are the equally pretty towns of Lectoure and Fleurance, both reachable in 30 mins. The area is located in the heart of Gascony, which is famous for its cuisine, including foie gras, magret and confit de canard, and of course a plentiful supply of superb wines and armagnac. The area is mid-way between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, with the Pyrenees and Spain about 1.5 hours drive. Littered all around are unspoilt medieval villages, chateaux and vineyards to explore.

Wow! Absolutely delightful. We enjoyed a relaxing and enjoyable 2 weeks . The Gite is everything you expect and more. We enjoyed lazy days by the pool in the beautiful sunshine, relaxing looking out over the wonderful views and taking in the peace and tranquillity of the area.
Jean is the perfect host, looking after our every need and making us feel so welcome. There are plenty of lovely places to visit, but the location is so perfect you do not want to leave.
We would recommend to anyone, but don't want to, because we want to go back time and time again!!
A lovely Gite, beautiful grounds and lovely area
We (myself, hubby, 10yo & 5yo) have just returned from an amazing 10 days at Au Sabate. The Gite is very nicely decorated with all the facilities and equipment you could possibly need. Every window has a beautiful view of the countryside and there is a very peaceful feel to it all, there's also enough space that a family of 4 are not treading on each others toes all week!!
The grounds are amazing too with lots of garden & woodland for strolling around, we were even visited by a baby deer on our last day. The swimming pool was the highlight though, you can see it from patio and it's a great size. We used it daily to cool down after being out in the baking sunshine and the children practically lived in it!
Jean is a wonderful host making sure we had everything we needed and giving us some great advice about how to make the most of our stay in Gers. My 5yo put it perfectly by saying he's not sure what he's missing more - the pool or Jean (high praise indeed).
Gers has something for everyone it's such a peaceful area with rolling fields full of sunflowers and hardly a car on the road, there's great food and wine all around you too. It's also good for exploring and my family especially loved visits to Larressingle & Fources. We also found great children's playgrounds at Castelnau-Sur-L'Auvignon and a little further a field at Castelnau-d'Auzan. There are well stocked supermarkets just down the road in Condom which also has a great Cathedral to look round. For day trips you can reach places like Bordeaux (we loved splashing in Le Miroir d'eau), Biarritz (a surfers paradise) and even Spain within 2-3 hours. It really is a great central location for a wide range of holiday types.
In short "would we recommend?" Absolutely, "would we go back?" In a heartbeat :)
A very well presented and equipped gite in a stunning location in the Gers. The owner Jean was so helpful and welcoming. Several towns such as La Romieu and Condom within easy driving distance are well worth a visit. We would recommend Au Sabate to anyone looking for a peaceful, comfortable holiday.
My wife and I have travelled to many parts of France and for the past few years have visited the Gers because it is so unspoilt and the countryside delightful. We found this property on the website and what a find! It is in a beautiful setting, the accommodation cannot be faulted with all you could wish for in terms of facilities. There is a lovely terrace and a really beautifully maintained swimming pool. It also has Jean the owner. She is delightful and ensures you have all you require without being intrusive. We loved it & can't wait to return to this perfect holiday location.
We travel to a different part of France each year and this is the best Gite we have had so far. Some promise so much but don't deliver where I would say this one delivers more than you are expecting.
We have two teenage children, the Gite is spacious for 4 and very well laid out. It was wonderfully clean when we arrived and everything we needed was available. The bedrooms are a generous size and there is plenty of space to relax inside and out in the evening.
If I'm honest I think its better than the website makes out and don't let the competitive price put you off, its fantastic value for money and could easily complete with others listed that charge several hundred a week more.
The grounds are large and would be great for younger children to play in and with no near neighbours its wonderfully quiet. The pool is to die for and literally a stones throw from your living room french doors. The pool is kept spotlessly clean with its own robot that cleans the floor and there are nets if you need to extract the odd insect. There are 4 quality sun beds with cushions and a separate seating area with soft seats, a table and a sun shade right next to the pool.
Whilst the gite is next to the main house it is really attached, more just linked. Jean is the owner and host and gave a very warm welcome and was always on hand to provide any local knowledge or answer any questions.
We haven't to date ever returned to a Gite for the second time as we like to explore new area's however this might be the first ! It certainly comes highly recommended by ourselves and would suit either a family of 3/4 or a couple simply wanting to escape
Thank you Jean for making it such a special holiday and
Paradise in France
We stayed at this Gite for one week and really wish we could have stayed a lot longer. The house and grounds are beautiful, the owner is very friendly and extremely accommodating. The Gite is very spacious and very beautifully laid out and tastefully decorated. It had everything we needed and the hospitality basket was just the icing on the cake.
The French doors lead out onto your own private and very spacious patio that overlooks wonderful scenery and the private pool. The pool area was wonderfully and very thoughtfully laid out and it really made you feel you were in your own slice of paradise in France. The private pool is one of the nicest we have encountered.
The local towns and villages have a lot to offer and we could only see a very small section of the area during our stay - needless to say we will be back and look to spend a lot longer.
Food and wine in surrounding towns and villages were excellent and would cover all tastes. We would also recommend a visit to the Monluc winery - fabulous.
We would highly recommend staying at this gorgeous property and would definitely look to return again - it definitely deserves 5 out of 5 stars:-)
The property is approximately 2 hours drive from the Atlantic coast and a little over 3 hours drive from the Mediterranean coast.
Bordeaux and Bergerac airports: 2 hrs; Toulouse 1.45 hrs; Pau 1.45 hrs.
A car is essential to explore the area.
The medieval town of Condom is just 4.5km away. With its UNESCO listed cathedral, Condom offers numerous bars and restaurants, including a fabulous Michelin-starred restaurant set in 12C cloisters. Booking advised! There is a weekly market on Wednesday, selling a vast array of gourmet local produce including Foie Gras, Armagnac and Floc, the local aperitif. Condom has several supermarkets, numerous banks and shops, a hospital and most things you might need on holiday. 20 minutes by car is the bastide town of Lectoure with its imposing cathedral of St Gervais and St Proteras overlooking the town. Here you will also find plenty of bars and restaurants where you can enjoy the local food and wine whilst watching the world go by. Lectoure also has a market on Friday mornings. There are many other interesting towns and villages scattered within a short drive of the property, making it an ideal place to get to know the beautiful Gers region. Throughout the summer, many of the towns and villages have their annual fetes and live music events, one of note being the Bandas Festival which takes place in Condom during the first weekend of May.
