Best holiday Yet declare the kids
The kids told us they wanted a house with a bedroom each, right on the sea and where we could take the dog, we found Soundwaves. They were enchanted as soon as they saw it, then followed the inevitable argument for the coved top bedroom! Our daughter declared it was her dream bedroom in her dream home. Yes, the stairs are kinda steep (especially to the top room) but it's a charming property, delightfully quirky and yes the road along the Seatown is.....interesting. We have had an awesome week, the weather couldn't have been better and we went for walks along the beach several times a day (we lost the kids early on as they found their own friends and went pier jumping and/or swimming everyday, wetsuits do come in every handy) Everyone is so friendly and welcoming and you should definitely go to the community cafe. Even the dog had a ball, swimming, chasing seagulls and stealing other dogs balls because he'd lost his own. He liked to lie in wait for people to come along the road so he could get even more attention. We will be back next year.
We are so very pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We have stayed in the cottage ourselves and I slept in what we fondly call the boat cabin room. The sound of the waves underneath the window is really magical! You are very welcome to come and stay again and thanks again for taking the time to leave such a positive review!
The cottage is on the seafront with spectacular sea views from every room and over Gamrie Bay where you may catch sight of a dolphin. The bay has many interesting features including rock pools, the sandy beach and the harbour. The dolphin and whale rescue centre is located in the village. At the nearby towns and villages you could try some outdoor pursuits, take a boat trip or perhaps even do some scuba diving. Bird watching is popular at nearby Troup Head.
Aberdeen is the nearest city and is only 45 miles south. The city has an international airport, railway and bus stations providing onward travel links throughout the UK and beyond. The highland capital of Inverness is the next nearest city and like Aberdeen has an airport and good train links. It is advisable to have use of a car to fully appreciate what the area has to offer. However the village does have a local bus service to Banff (6 miles).
The next village along the coast is Pennan which was used as a location in the film "Local Hero", and there are several other coastal villages which are worth a visit. The nearest towns of Banff and Macduff (6 miles) offer more choice of shops, restaurants and leisure activities. The Marine Aquarium in Macduff is well worth a visit as is Duff House Art Gallery and the Scottish Lighthouse Museum in Fraserburgh (12 miles). You could also discover the Whisky or Castle Trail.
Within the village all the basic services are provided. There are a couple of grocery shops, restaurant (open in the mid-high season) and of course a good local pub which serves food. The nearby towns of Banff and Macduff will offer a wider range of shops and services.
