I live only 2 miles away from the cottage in the nearby village of Thornhill with my partner, Andy, and our recent addition, Bonnie - the cockapoo! I retired a couple of years ago from my post as head of faculty in the local FE college and decided to incorporate my love of restoring old properties (our own home started out as a holiday cottage renovation, and we loved it so much we moved in!), with the need to earn some income! We bought Boggle Dyke 3 years ago, from the local Buccleuch Estates, and as you will see from some of the pictures, it was in need of lots of attention! It's a listed building - built in the late 1800s, by the local Duke to house his farm workers. We have completed renovated the cottage, whilst still retaining its character and charm (I hope)

Andy and I bought Boggle Dyke Cottage because we know the area so well, living just 2 miles away in Thornhill. I'd be attracted to it for some time, and having viewed it, we realised it needed so much work to bring it back to life. It's in an ideal location for travelling either north or south, or west through a beautiful National Park to the shores of the West of Scotland, and further, to Ireland. Within minutes you will find yourself off the beaten track and enjoying breathtaking scenery, either in the car or on foot Its very accessible, and a lovely walk from the shops or pubs of Thornhill. Just as accessible, are the world renowned mountain biking trails within minutes of the cottage, or some fine salmon and trout fishing, available in the nearby river.
What makes this Cottage unique
The property has been completely renovated from its 4 walls inwards! All mod cons are provided and the heating and insulation is a welcome improvement on a cold winter's night. Nothing nicer than lighting the log burner, opening the wine, and just chillin' The superking size bed can be set up as two full size singles - a flexibility we are happy to offer depending on your needs.

Lovely little cottage, very nicely decorated and very clean.
Enjoyed our stay in this lovely little cottage with nice garden for our dog. Unfortunately the volume of traffic outside the front door was extremely annoying, from about 6.30 in the morning till late evening heavy lorries and tractors passed continuously. I feel Wi-Fi is a necessity and would have paid extra to have this provided. The vent from the boiler is just outside the back door and unfortunately the fumes came into the house giving us both headaches and nausea, feel vent should be moved to the roof. Apart from these niggles we had a lovely few days.
I completely take on board what is said regarding Wi-Fi and am looking into the best way to provide this given the poor mobile signal in the area. However, I am clear in the description of the cottage that this is not currently provided. I'm not able to change the vent for the oil heating since the cottage is listed; This is the first time I've had this comment so will certainly monitor this. I appreciate this was when the back door was open into the garden during the warm weather.
The extent of the traffic reported surprises me - I also live on this road and haven't noticed any particular increase over the last few weeks - although it is harvest time and appreciate that if my guests come from very quiet residential areas, the traffic noise will be evident.
However, I'm so pleased that regardless of these identified problems you still had a lovely few days.

Cottage for two
The cottage was clean and beautifully presented small and compact with everything catered for comfortable stay in lovely country side..
There are many beaches to access from the cottage and the nearest would be around 35-40 minutes driving.
Both Glasgow and Edinburgh airports are 1 hour away, with Prestwick airport being approximately 45 minutes distance. Car hire is not essential, since the cottage is on a variety of bus routes, but for any sightseeing etc, in this part of Scotland, a car is usually advised
The nearest village which has a post office, banks, pubs, shops, supermarkets etc is Thornhill - a little under 2 miles away. 20 minutes away, is Dumfries which is the biggest town providing a 24 hour Tesco and other normal high street stores you would expect.
An hour away by car you have the choice of the contrasting cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow
Locally, this area of Scotland is renowned for its natural habitat - whether for birds, other wild life, salmon and trout fishing in the local rivers, or for the more energetic, mountain biking in the 7Stanes world renowned network of cycle tracks, or equally as attractive, road biking on some of the most scenic roads around. Walking is a very popular pastime, and I would be happy to advise on some local and slightly further afield walks available

Booking Notes: For booking enquiries, please email or all - 50% deposit taken at time of booking, and balance to be paid 4 weeks in advance of holiday. A "damage" deposit of £100 will be taken on arrival, fully returnable on inspection of the property. Rates include all bedlinen and towels, heating and 1st basket of logs for the log burner. Pets very welcome (dogs only please) at no additional charge. Please note that the house is "no smoking" Changeover Day: Changeover day would normally be a Saturday, but this could be open to variation. Access to the cottage is after 2 pm with visitors being asked to vacate the cottage, by 10 am on the date of leaving Notes on prices: Part-weeks are possible depending on other bookings and are charged as follows: 3 nights or less - 70% of week 4 nights - 80% 5/6 nights - 90%
