About Jane Ord
We run a family farm in North Northumberland, a beautiful part of the world, steeped in history & panoramic landscapes. Nature, wildlife & our animals are our neighbours, we enjoy sharing them with our visitors.
Jane Ord purchased this Cottage in 1980
Why Jane Ord chose Chatton
Groom's cottage historically was occupied by the head Groom when the farm was a country hunting park & racing stables. It has been refurbished & is now a cosy retreat close to the hills & the coast.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottage sits within it's own walled garden on the edge of our farm. There are many walks from the door step, amble down the river side or go up the hill to the unique, ancient cup & ring marks. Chatton village is a 10 min walk & has a post office/shop, pub & historic church. Within 5/6 miles you can be on Northumberland's amazing beaches, canoeing on it's rivers, walking it's hills in the national park or visiting one of it's many castles. Chatton fishing lakes are within easy walking distance where you do not need a licence to fish.

Warm and cosy cottage
Enjoyed a few days at Groom’s Cottage. Well equipped kitchen and nice touches left by the host, including fresh farm eggs and fairy cakes on arrival. Beautiful part of the world. The beaches are outstanding.
So pleased you enjoyed your stay. We hope to welcome you again one day soon.
Clean on arrival, very well equipped, good location, warm and friendly welcome from owners helfull
Plenty of advice available from the owners. some beautiful home made cakes, half a dozen eggs and a vase of roses in the cottage for us. We had a fabulous time there with our dog. The garden is walled off and with gates though it didn't stop the occasional chicken from getting in. Very cute cottage but had a few large spiders in must be the time of year. Would definitely go again. Perfect for branching out from. Several gorgeous beaches within 10 to minutes drive to. Visited Holy Island which for me was a must. There are so many places of interest to visit around and the beautiful Cheveats where we saw some amazing sun sets. Also the perfect place for stargazing at nights. So beautiful never seen so many stars. Beds made up for us on arrival and towels there too.
How nice to hear that Groom's Cottage contributed to your successful holiday. We work hard to welcome all our guests & our 4 legged friends.
Northumberland has so much to offer what ever the season
Great cottage with everything you need, friendly owners and beautiful countryside.
Clean and relaxing cottage great position to explore Northumberland.
Cosy home from home !!!
A welcome feeling as soon as you walk through the door , so near to great things to do in the country side or seaside, loved it so recommended!
Comfy farm cottage, in pretty countryside.
Location great for cheviots and coast. Chatton pub very good in walking distance. Farm cottage so moving agricultural vehicles but not disturbing as garden surrounds cottage. Jane and family welcoming. Lovely free range eggs. Bedrooms small so i think it suits two rather than four. Comfortable rustic furnishings but very well equipped. We really enjoyed the week.
Ok so the fabulous weather helped, but even if it had been less good this would have been a great holiday. The cottage was perfect, with everything you could need, and well appointed with an allround garden that the dogs loved careering round.
Lovely eggs (you can buy double yolkers from the farm, we did!!) and cake on arrival, along with a warm welcome from Jane helped us to feel at home right away.
Being from Newcastle we knew the area anyway, but if you're not familiar then there are ample guides/leaflets regarding the locality to help you find your way round.
The Percy Arms in Chatton is a nice pub, good ales and food. Potted Lobster in Bamburgh is great for seafood, although if you order the seafood platter for 2, then you'd better bring another 2 people to help you out eating it!
Groom's Cottage is the type of place where, if you've been there for 2 days, you feel like you've been there for a month, it's really that comfortable and, well....just right!!
Looking forward to staying again very much indeed, and thank you the Ord family for such a friendly stay (they all wave as they're going past on tractors/4x4's/quad bikes with Albert the dog)....it's just great!
So pleased you enjoyed your stay. We love the place we live & really like other people to appreciate it too. We try hard to provide everything we can to make everyone’s stay a special one.
