A delightful 3 bedroomed character house set within its own private courtyard. The property is situated in Villenueve Minervois, an authentic village typical of the region with its shady boulevards, plane trees and 2 very good restaurants. The property is ideal if you enjoy all things local and a sense of independence; from markets, wine tasting and local delicacies to mountain walks and relatively undiscovered remote villages. However, it will also suit those who require a more focused stay as well-know attractions such as Carcassonne and the Canal du Midi are within a short drive. The property provides a cool haven in the summer but also has a fantastic wood burning stove and central heating providing a good all year round base to enjoy activities from walking in the spring, to Bastille Day and the enchanting Christmas market in Carcassonne. A beautiful boutique property that has extra touches, such as The White Company linen, to make your stay as luxurious as possible.

About Rolland Keane
A long-term love of France and some 30 years of dragging family and friends around every corner of this intoxicating land led to the inevitable journey to the south west and our home in Villeneuve Minervois. This still unspoilt corner of France offers everything from lofty mountains to sandy beaches, haute cuisine to the humble cassoulet. Our house is also our home for as much of the year as our working lives in London will allow. We hope you enjoy, as we do, everything that the wonderful Minervois has to offer!

A true 'Hidden Gem'
The property lived up to our expectations and more. The house was cosy (especially as the temperature was below zero outside!), very well maintained and well equipped. It is ideally positioned for walking to restaurants in the village and the region itself has much going for it. Medieval villages on top of the mountains, only an hour away from the coast and we could see the snow capped mountains in the distance. We had a very enjoyable two weeks holiday.
Many thanks for such a positive review Linda. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay so much and hope to welcome you back on another occasion. Rolland & Andrea
A lovely comfortable home in a pretty village with friendly locals who made us very welcome.
Very comfortable and well equipped, this lovely traditional gite made a perfect base for exploring the beautiful surrounding mountains and countryside. The coast is only an hour away and Carcassonne and the canal du midi are on the doorstep. There are two lovely auberges in the village, plus a great little bar, boulangerie and boucherie. There are also some lovely walks right from the door. Lots of reasons for a return visit!
Perfect - an elegantly decorated home!
We have recently returned from a holiday at Rolland's lovely home in Villeneuve Minervoios. Firstly, the house - it is gorgeous! Tucked away down a side street with no traffic (the road is too narrow), so it is very quiet. It is very well equipped - we found everything we needed for cooking, a cool bag and cold blocks in the freezer for taking a picnic one day, a Vacuvin to chill those bottles at top speed, plenty of pots, pans etc. The master bedroom on the top floor was gorgeous - very French in style, with high quality bed linen and a very comfy bed. The upstairs terrace suited me down to the ground as it gets the sun from 9am to 6pm and I loved having our freshly bought croissants and pain au chocolat for breakfast up there, me in the sun and my husband in the shade, and later sitting up there with my book. The courtyard has much more shade so suited my husband, who is not a sun lover. Other reviewers have commented on the fact that the lounge and kitchen area is quite dark, which it is, but that kept it cool, and coming in from the baking sun into the coolness was bliss!
Villeneuve Minervois is a great village too - not touristy (we didn't hear any English spoken there) and the locals were very friendly. In fact the wife of the owner of the Palaeontology museum, who spotted us looking at the museum sign - not that we ever intended visiting as it's not really our 'thing' - shouted "Cou-cou" to us and started chatting away. She insisted we go in to see the museum, and then insisted we should stay for 'un petit verre de Muscat"! And olives and nibbles! How lovely of her!
We tried both restaurants in the village - both lovely but in fact we preferred the Auberge de la Clamoux which had a bit more French atmosphere.
As for visits - we really loved Minerve, Montolieu, Fanjeux, Mirepoix, Le Somail ....in fact the whole area was beautiful. I personally was a little disappointed in the La Cite part of Carcasonne, which is very touristy and busy, but nonetheless worth visiting. We also particularly loved Pezenas! We are now experts in truffle hunting (museum in the village), making paper from elephant poo (Paper Mill at Brousse et Villaret) and the workings of a windmill (tour at the windmill in the village), all very interesting! The wines produced by the Domaine at the windmill were also VERY lovely!
Nothing more to say - I think this is a super house! Thank you for letting us stay, Rolland!
Carolyn, we are constantly amazed and delighted in equal measure at our luck - four years ago we bought this house and set about creating our idea of a perfect French retreat and since then we have had the enormous pleasure of meeting, if not in person, such lovely guests as you who share our vision. Thank you for your great review, for choosing our property and most of all for valueing the things we find invaluable! We hope to welcome you back again on another occasion. Rolland & Andrea
Tucked away up a narrow side street, behind a painted gate, hides this beautiful little house. It was clean, warm and welcoming on our arrival. It is tastefully decorated, giving it a calm, modern, yet rustic feel. Although a relatively small property it had a spacious feel as it is arranged over 3 floors and all the rooms were of a good size, especially the bedrooms. For us the best architectural feature was the spiral staircase, with its smooth, ear-like curves. The kitchen was well equipped and there was a good library of books and DVDs. As we were there in the winter we made good use of the log burner but there is also a pretty courtyard with an amazing palm canopy as well as a little roof terrace, which would be brilliant in the summer.
The village of Villeneuve-Minervois, has the basic essential shops (butcher's, baker's, greengrocer, chemist and a Spar) as well as a couple of restaurants, although we didn't dine out during our stay. There is also a weekly market and a number of supermarkets a short drive away as well, of course, as many wine tasting caves. We did not manage to visit the 'House of Truffles', which is also in the village.
The owner was more than helpful and answered any queries I had swiftly. His directions to the property were also detailed and clear.
There are many walks from the village into the surrounding countryside and many sites of historical interest nearby. We even managed a dip in the Med one day.
I would definitely recommend this property to friends and family. It was the perfect setting for our French Christmas.
Anne, thank you for the excellent and detailed review - it is very much appreciated. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back on another occasion and in the meantime wish you and your family a very happy 2017. Rolland & Andreea
Wonderful stay in fantastic house
After so many holidays when either the house or its location was not quite up to scratch it was an absolute joy to open the gate and find this pretty house - a hidden gem in every sense! Inside was lovely; tastefully decorated rooms providing contemporary comfort whilst retaining so much of the character of this wonderful old property. We loved it! After outings with the kids to various beaches (Guisson, Le Franqui and the lake just outside Carcassonne called Cavayere) we returned in the evenings to the peace and relative cool of the pretty courtyard where we enjoyed some great family BBQs washed down with plenty (too much!) of the delicious local wines. The village itself was a proper working French village with real French people! It had all the amenities we needed but was wonderfully free of the flocks of tourists that have slightly spoiled some of our French holidays in the past, particularly in Provence. All in all we loved the house and the area.
Perfect - elegant and tasteful
We booked on the basis of the advertisement and the reviews . To our very pleasant surprise , the house is even better than the descriptions . It has been beautifully restored and fitted out with very high quality materials . The village is delightful and the local area has so many attractions.
The first thing we did upon our return was to book again for 2017 .
Many thanks Chris, we are delighted you enjoyed the house and your stay in the wonderful Minervois. We very much look forward to welcoming you back again next year.

There are so many places to visit in the area that one week may not be enough!
Within the village there are 2 very good restaurants (one an auberge serving local dishes and the other which is a more suited to fine dining). Other amenities include a boulangerie, butchers and small Spar shop. There is also a chemist and post office. The village is famous for "la Truffe" and in the winter colourful markets are organised to celebrate (and sell) all things related. You can visit the local museum, Maison de la Truffe (Truffle House) within the village all-year-round. Also dont miss out on a visit to le Moulin (a working windmill) which is a 15 minute stroll from the house.
In the surrounding area the numerous areas of historic, scenic and cultural interest are easily reached by car. There are the famous Cathar fortresses of Chateaux de Lastours and Queribus. However, the biggest attraction in the area is the UNESCO World Heritage site of Carcassonne. Carcassonne is the largest walled city in Europe, the fascinating 'La Cite', where at least in the story, the heroic chatelaine defied the siege of Charlemagne. Despite its fairy tale appearance, Carcassonne has all of the conveniences of a modern city.
To cool down in the summer there are lakeside beaches and a forestry acrobatic park at Lac de Lay Cavayere. Both popular with families. If you fancy visiting some of the caves for which the region is well-known, head for the Grotte de Limousis or Cabrespine. For those that don't mind a longer drive there is a wonderful tourist train Rivesaltes to Axat which takes you through dramatic and beautiful scenery.
For the more adventurous there are lots of activities such as gorge walking, whitewater rafting and kayaking.
The village of Caunes Minervois, famous for its red marble and Benedictine abbey, is less than 15 minutes drive away, where there is a wider selection of shops and dining options.
