Cottage in Cove Nr. Gairloch, Scottish Highlands, Scotland - Ideal For ‘get-away’ Holiday Surrounded By Stunning Scenery, Whatever The Weather Or Season
About Andrew Wooles
Based in Cheshire, we bought The Pentagon as a holiday house primarily for our family to enjoy. So we've ensured everything we would want to find in a holiday cottage is there. We also recognized the impact holiday homes can have on the local community - holidaymakers bring employment and money into the remote highland communities, empty houses contribute nothing. We therefore decided that our house would be available to let throughout the year. Although our children have now left home, we still regularly enjoy a number of weeks in our cottage every year.
Andrew Wooles purchased this Cottage in 2001
Why Andrew Wooles chose Achnasheen
We had been wanting to buy a holiday house in Scotland for our family for some time but never find the right area. Then we had a couple of great holidays on Loch Ewe, fell in love with the area and found The Pentagon. The rest is history! We like its proximity to both the sea and the hills, the sandy beaches with a backdrop of rugged mountains.
What makes this Cottage unique
Ideal for that get-away-from-it-all holiday, its a great place to relax at any time of year.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Never trust the weather forcast
It's been the third time we've stopped at the pentagon, and as always a pleasure to stay there. Perfectly situated for some isolation and beautifully barren vistas.
A lovely remote cottage
Firstly, I would like to say that if we had stayed in the summer I am sure we would have given the cottage five stars. It was just as described, with everything one could want for a wonderful stay: incredible views, beautiful beaches, great walks. We were warned that there was little or no Internet access, and it's surprising how one can survive!
However, the cottage only has one smallish sitting room which was fine for two people but I suspect it would not be so good for six people in winter. Also we had problems getting warm the first few nights as the house had obviously been empty for a while.
If coming in winter be warned - bring your own matches, firelighters, kindling and logs to get the fire started.
And the local shop is closed on Sundays so (if arriving on Saturday evening) bring EVERYTHING you need till Monday morning unless you want to drive to Gairloch on Sunday. The cottage is remote.
But we enjoyed our stay.
Homely and welcoming.
I've been traveling to cove for around 30 years now, staying in a variety of accommodation, and the pentagon is one of the cleanest and well furnished I've had the pleasure to dwell.
The cottage comfortably sleeps six people and really feels like a home from home for your time at Loch Ewe. It is ideally situated for excursions into the hills and the position, overlooking the loch, creates a beautiful vista for the entire stay.

We're very sorry you did not enjoy your stay at our cottage. It is unfortunate you didn't contact us or our caretaker as most of your issues were avoidable and covered in our House Information pack.
-The hot water heater is controlled by a switch in the kitchen.
-There is always plenty of coal for the fire in the bunkers outside as it is difficult to get logs delivered and then stored.
-We have never advertised wi-fi access, but do provide a PC with internet access instead. This is due to our satellite internet usage being metered.
We are aware of the challenges of using the off-peak night storage heaters if people are unfamiliar with them. We are therefore replacing them this winter with more controllable radiators.
Wunderbar gelegenes Haus.
Very cosy, with everything you need
A very cosy house! Each room coloured different in friendly colours. A big kitchen with great views over the loch, enough dishes and cutlery and everything else for six, a comfortable living room with also great views and a good-working fireplace, all bedrooms very nicely decorated and lots of games and books and maps. Everything was clean and we had enough space to leave our things. And a music player in each room :) Very tranquil area, and it is worth the long way!
