About Sue Greig
Sue lives in Glencaple (just around the corner from the Flat) with her husband Rob. Rob and Sue are both now retired and are enjoying it very much! They moved to Glencaple 13 years ago (Sue grew up in the area) after living in cities most of their lives and spending a large part of their careers travelling the world. They now enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the area.
Sue Greig purchased this Apartment in 2013
Why Sue Greig chose Dumfries
Sue and Rob bought the property to renovate and rent as a holiday home so that others could enjoy the delights of the area. Everything is here for a wonderful Scottish holiday especially if you are a nature lover - the scenery, bird-watching and wildlife are superb. Glencaple is only five miles from Dumfries and is perfectly situated - rural yet not remote. You can be in the depths of Galloway in an hour; in Glasgow in an hour and a half and Carlisle in 40 minutes.
What makes this Apartment unique
Although small, the property is very comfortable, well-laid out and easily managed. The kitchen is very well equipped but you can always pop round the corner to the local hotel or tearoom if you don't feel like cooking.

We had a pleasant stay in an absolutely beautiful part of Scotland.
Very cosy and tranquil
This is a lovely holiday flat, which has a warm and welcoming quality and beautiful surroundings. It's also situated in an ideal place, as there's plenty to do within the immediate locality, and is also within a short driving distance from the beaches and other places of interest.
Thanks very much for your lovely review and so glad you enjoyed your time in Glencaple. We think it's a very special place!
A well maintained little flat which was well equipped and lacked nothing. We had a lovely relaxing holiday and popped round the corner the corner to the Nith Hotel .

A perfect cottage, brilliantly situated!
We enjoyed a brilliant stay in this cosy flat in just the most perfect little village, everything we needed and ideally situated with good food nearby, beautiful scenery and interesting things to do whatever the weather!
Great little place
Glencaple. First stop in the Dumfries area. Next to the river Nith estuary. Thousands of geese. Nice boathouse cafe on the pier and the Nith Hotel for a good dinner. For a quiet cozy rural village experience. Heartily recommend the apartment. Thanks to our very attentive landlady.
Many thanks for your lovely review. Much appreciated.
Glad you enjoyed your stay in Glencaple. You were certainly here at the right time to enjoy the geese. All the best.
Almost everything very good. Only one little fault was sharp edge on floor of bedroom doorway which we had been warned about.
Nice views from windows. Very warm and comfortable and well eguiped.
Our main aim was to visit WWT bird reserve so seeing hundreds of wildfowle from the flat was a wellcome bonus.
We intend to book this flat again.
Thank you for taking the time to review the Flat. So glad you enjoyed your visit and that you saw good goose fly-passes from the Flat window. Look forward to welcoming you back to Glencaple.
Beautiful sandy beaches in Galloway are a 45 minutes drive away. Plenty of riverside and coastal walks locally. The Nith is a tidal river and has the second largest tidal drop in the UK after the Severn. Look out for the bore!
Glasgow, Edinburgh and Newcastle airports are about 1 hour 45 minutes away. To make the most of your visit a car is essential.
The nearest town is Dumfries which is 5 miles away. Caerlaverock Castle and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Reserve are 2 and 3 miles away.
The Nith Hotel, just round the corner, serves bar meals as well as lunches and dinners in their restaurant every day. And the recently opened Boathouse café/shop on the Quay serves coffees, teas and lunches from 10 am till 4pm. A travelling Post Office visits Glencaple twice a week and sets up in the village hall. Dumfries is well-served with supermarkets, banks and shops. The nearest supermarkets are Lidl and Morrisons. Lots of good restaurants and cafes in and around Dumfries - our favourites are Loch Arthur (Beeswing), Casa Mia, Primo Piano, Home, Mrs Greens Tearoom, Nona Lou's, Polka Dot (all in Dumfries) and Del Amitri (in Powfoot) a half hours drive away). Tasting some of the superb local produce will be the highlight of your visit.
Nearest bank is in Dumfries.
Plenty of gentle walking and hill walking in the area as well as birdwatching fishing, golfing, cycling, mountain biking. Spectacular scenery and wildlife.
Dumfries and Galloway is becoming famous for its Arts and Music Festivals including the Big Burns Supper, Spring Fling, Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival and many more.
