Why Anne Roberts chose Duns
Hidden in the heart of a village, close to pubs and wild life reserve. Perfect for her hobby of carriage driving. One hour to Edinburgh and only Three and a half hours to train station and London, even getting to Paris by Eurostar for dinner! The beaches are great too, as is golf and diving.

The secret house is a great place to stay when visiting Duns and the surrounding areas. The property is well equipped and it was great that I could bring my dog. I would recommend it highly.
Charming townhouse with beautiful garden.
Anne was very welcoming. The house was perfect for the 6 of us plus our dog. The house full of art, plants and quirky items, there was plenty room to relax inside and out. The kitchen is well equipped, the beds were comfy. The courtyard is delightful :hydrangeas, agapanthus and lilies were in full bloom and there was plentiful birdlife and pond life- a very peaceful place to unwind.
Lots of character
Lovely property, different to the norm - lots of character.
Plenty of room, nice court yard and private parking which is usually something people forget to think about.
Did struggle with the amount of hot water but found using ‘Stanley’ and having breakfast first helped.
Location of the property was great for us, and Edinburgh, Kelso, and Melrose is all within an hours drive from Duns
Anne the host was very friendly and she ade every effort to make our stay enjoyable and comfortable- Thank you Anne
Felt slightly uncomfortable staying in someone's house rather than a holiday home
Very quaint and qwerty regards the layout .. didn't realise we were staying in someone's house rather than a holiday home. .. little bit uncomfortable being being surrounded by personal belongings ... Otherwise it was spotlessly clean and had all the amenities that we required
Owners Direct became Home Away and The Secret House has been rented through their website for fifteen years, and so I'm sorry that the location left the impression you were staying I'm my home. All previous guests have found it charming!
Charming Georgian house, with all the comforts of home!
Walking weekend in Duns
Duns is a charming village within Scottish Borders region. Easy driving distance to East Lothian which provides transport links to Edinburgh.
On booking 'Secret House' owner Anne provided excellent communication leading up to our weekend visit.
Accommodation provides secure parking which is within a gated courtyard leading to 3 level Townhouse. Townhouse provides 3 comfortable bedrooms and 2 bathrooms spread across bottom (1) and top floors (2). A charming living/dining room sits on the 2nd floor with a wood burner for cosy evenings in. WIFI is provided which was a must for our 14 year old - who like most teenagers is never off his tablet/phone.
Duns has everything you would need - we particualrly enjoyed Hugo's a small cafe situated within marketplace.
Overall we enjoyed our stay within Secret house and would recommend for those with dogs as our wee Westie had a ball.
Delighted you enjoyed your stay at the Secret House
Special interest holidays:
If you would like a cookery course, the owner had a cooking school in Paris, and is delighted to organize tailor-made lessons, where all guests can dine.

Beaches are twenty to thirty minutes by car. St Abbs Head is a special National Trust reserve, where you can also dive. Fishing trips can be organized from Coldingham. Berwick Swans can be seen at Tweedmouth. The Farne islands and the Bass Rock have wonderful trips for bird watchers.
Edinburgh and Newcastle airports are almost equidistant, roughly 1 1/2 drive. Berwick-upon-Tweed has a very good East Coast train service, and there is a connecting bus service to Duns. Car hire is available from all these destinations.
Edinburgh is 43 miles, Kelso is 18 miles, Berwick is 18 miles. There are lots of historic houses, including Manderston, Mellerstain, Abbotsford all within thirty minutes drive.
Duns Market Square has a Fish n Fine foods, a game dealer, banks, chemist, a couple of bistros, lots of charming boutiques. There are five very ancient pubs in the village, some of them as hidden as the Secret House.
