About Andres Matas
Hi everybody, I'm Andres, i'm 58 years old and i own the beautiful house that you are looking at. I live in the historic village of Iznajar in Andalucia here in Spain. Iznajar is very close to the house and is almost an island protrudung out of the 32 km long Lake Iznajar, in fact you can only entre or leave over 1 of the 2 large bridges. I have a wife and 2 sons and i spend my life looking after the house and keeping it in pristine condition so my guests have the perfect holiday. I have Fruit trees and grow vegetables which i like to share with my guests. If you have a great holiday then my work has been worth while.....enjoy.
Why Andres Matas chose Iznájar
I inherited the property which has been in my family for many generations. Origionaly it was a "Molino" or olive mill, it has been converted and restored using as much of its origional form as possible and is adorned with many origional artifacts which i'm sure you are going to enjoy during your stay here in sunny Andalucia. The house enjoys a beautiful elevated positionwith wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and olive groves with hardly a building in sight yes its quite close to historic "pueblo" of Iznajar and its 32 km long lake with its own sandy beach and beach bars. I spend my life looking after my lovely house and making sure its in perfect condition when my guests arrive.
What makes this Villa unique
The house is very private, set in its own gated and walled grounds. There are lovely views over the rural Andalucian countryside. The house is within easy reach of local villages and their bars, restaurants and supermarkets. It is very close to the large Lake Iznajar with its own sandy beach and beachbars, you can also hire kayaks and explore, fish etc. There are an endless number of places to walk and there are walking groups that you could join every Sat and Sunday. ( facebook Iznajar walking group ) The house is within an hours drive of Granada and its world famous Alhambra Palace or its Ski slopes, Cordoba and its moorish Mezquita, The Costa del Sol with cities like Malaga and its historic castles etc. Also there is Antequera, Lucena, "el Torcal"and numerous historic towns and places.

A great place for family. Plenty of space.
It was a very nice property. But it be nice to have an electric kettle. Andreas is kind and helpful.
Great Family Accommodation
I spent two weeks with my family, 13 in total, at the villa and we all had a fantastic holiday. The accommodation was good. Everywhere was clean. Although the interior was a little dated, there was a modern and well-equipped kitchen and bathrooms. Andres, the host, although speaking no English, was helpful when needed and came everyday to clean the pool and empty the bins. He generously gave us produce from his garden on arrival. The pool was superb and most certainly the best feature and made the holiday exceptional, along with the table tennis table. A car is definitely essential as the location is quite remote, but this made the views from the villa really lovely, and very quiet. Andres' nephew recommended some great restaurants within easy distance. I would not hesitate to recommend this property for a large group/family.
Casa Rufino, Los Juncares, Iznajar
Casa Rufino is much nicer than the description and photos suggest, full of history and plenty of room for 14 of us. Excellent air-con in bedrooms (except for one, which had none?!?). There is a lovely attic room which has its own toilet and washbasin and the downstairs quarters are self-contained so would be ideal for two families. The pool is fantastic, lots of fun had there, and more room around the pool than the photos suggest. Constructive criticism would be: (1) Cooking facilities could be more generous considering that the villa sleeps 15. (2) It would be a very welcome touch for families if a sturdy, full size cot and a couple of highchairs could be provided. Andreas is a very quiet, unobtrusive gentleman who went out of his way to help us. He was kind enough to go out and buy our shopping on the Saturday as our first day was a Sunday and nowhere was open. He shared with us lots of his home-grown fruit and veg - we forgot to bring home the lemons! The villa is quite remote and you will definitely need a car. Enjoy the tranquillity and mountain views - we did.

Owner very difficult to work with
If this were my first experience using VRBO/Home Away, I would never return. I would give the property a C+. The owner was unresponsive. Took two days to get heat, two days to get more towels; left his dog on the property to bark and whine through the night. No screens on the windows so lots of bugs. Several beds very uncomfortable; old and poorly fitted sheets. Several showers had very low pressure. Black mold on walls. No book with instructions of how to use washing machine and various appliances. Property suitable for families with children more accustomed to camping.
A lovely villa full of charm.
The villa provided ample space for our group of 12, everyone loved the pool overlooking the fantastic views across the valley. If you like the peace of rural spain with the nearest town (Iznajar) just a short drive with several places to eat and drink. Casa Juani and Cafe Verde both offered good food and welcoming atmospheres.
As a base be prepared for driving a good hour to most major regional tourist attractions such as amazing Granada and the Alhambra.
We had a fantastic time and enjoyed the company of the owners elderly dog. Look out for the Geckos especially the one who uses the the wall light as his own buffet.
Thank you Andre for the lovely villa and easy holiday booking
Perfect for a large group.
The villa is fabulous with a great living space. It is divided into two floors so all the youngsters slept downstairs. There is also one lovely attic bedroom with a basin and toilet in the room! Pool and views were great. I really don't think the photos do the place justice. Air con in 7 out of the 8 bedrooms was vital as it ws very hot. My only gripe would be that the bed linin was very old and and the kitchen knives were blunt and broken otherwise I would have given five stars. Good value for money.
The house is located an hour from Malaga and the beautiful beaches of the Costa del Sol.
The nearest airports are Granada (40mins) and Malaga (1 hr) and we are within reach of Seville airport.
Iznajar and its beautiful narrow streets and ancient castle and stunning 32 km long unspoilt lake and even its own large sandy beach and beach bars where you can hire kayaks etc is less than 15 minutes away.
Granada and the world famous Alhambra Palace is 1 hour away.
The historic town of Antequera with its beautiful castle and churches and its narrow cobbled streets is also 45 mins away.
Within 1hr are Cordoba and it's famous " Mezquita", Malaga and the Costa del Sol.
Iznajar has plenty of "tapas bars", 5 banks, 3 supermarkets and lots of interesting shops of all types as well as an enormous renovated castle where also is housed the tourist information office. Also in the village is "bar Verde which is run by an english couple Scott and Naomi who serve nice home cooked english food at supprisingly cheap prices ( at the time of writing only 10 euros for dinner for 2 persons), Rute is a good sized town 20 mins from the house which has a good large supermarket "Mercadona" with its own free car park where you buy everything you need under one roof. 20 mins past Rute is the large and historic town of Lucena which is well worth a visit both for the shopping and tourism. Realy there is an endless list of things to do and places to visit with every village in the area having its own illustrious history and of course it's own unique tapas bars.
