'Home From Home' apartment with garden backing onto Ventnor's beautiful St Boniface Down
About Shelley Andrews
Simon and I both grew up in North London but have started a new adventure with our move to the Isle of Wight. As well as continuing with our house renovations and exploring this stunningly beautiful island, we're now able to welcome couples to stay in our Garden Apartment here in Ventnor (OD E13567) and of course continue to visit our beloved second home in beautiful Carcassonne (OD FR5911).
Shelley Andrews purchased this Apartment in 2012
Why Shelley Andrews chose Ventnor
We'd talked about moving out of London and wanted to relocate somewhere beautiful by the sea, with lots of period properties and still be near to friends and family. It had to be Ventnor on the Isle of Wight... We loved the house straight away and knew it had potential. And once we saw the garden, there was no turning back - imagine having St Boniface Down at the end of your garden path! As well as moving in ourselves, we've also been encouraging the wildlife to feel at home. We've seen many types of birds and butterflies in the garden, but best of all are our two regular red squirrels who we've named 'Fred and Ginger'. They are hazelnut addicts! We're also enjoying exploring the coastline with Ventnor, Bonchurch and Steephill Cove beaches all within walking distance from the house.
What makes this Apartment unique
The garden apartment is the first part of our Isle of Wight home to be completed. We've designed the space to offer couples a comfortable, cosy and private place in which to unwind after a day exploring the island (or even just relaxing in the garden!) Being strictly 'adults only', we've chosen good quality fittings, luxury mattress, linens and towels to provide that 'home from home' experience. Relax in the slipper bath or have a refreshing shower; we've fitted both so you have the choice. Ventnor is one of the sunniest places in the UK but to ensure our winter guests are also snug, you'll find central heating throughout. We also offer many personal touches to help make your stay memorable.
Please consider the following guidelines when booking this property:
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Just back home after four nights in this apartment.
The apartment itself was wonderful. Beautifully appointed in a good location with everything we could have wanted. The owner was brilliant to communicate with and even provided us with the basic essentials, including milk, on arrival. Bedding etc was luxurious. No problems with the WiFi and there is even Sky there!!
Town is a couple of minutes drive away and if nice and fit a brisk walk down the hill but remember you will have to walk back up!!
Only criticism would be that the beautiful gardens on view in the pictures are not visible from the apartment due to the slopes behind the main house. There is full access to the gardens from the rear (up a few stairs) but just a shame they are effectively hidden away.
Car parking is right outside the front door on a private drive so no need to worry about where to park overnight.
Despite that we can highly recommend this apartment and we will definitely stay here again in the near future.
Such a lovely apartment. Beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and equipped with everything you might need. Shelley was so helpful, even booking our ferry journeys for us. We really appreciated all the extra touches and especially the delicious chocolate truffles! Great location - only a short walk to the town, beach and the downs. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend staying here and hope to return ourselves.
A fabulous Apartment !
Everything about our stay in this Apartment was First Class. Corresponding with the owners was a delight - they made everything easy and straightforward and we appreciated them arranging our Ferry Crossing for us. We subsequently found out that nothing is too much trouble for them - they are so keen for you to have the best stay possible. The Apartment is absolutely wonderful, very stylish, spacious and spotlessly clean. We used the Apartment as our 5* Base for exploring the Island by bike and walking the amazing coastal footpaths and can thoroughly recommend it.
Lovely Ground Floor Apartment in Prime Location
Shelley's apartment was lovely, and comfortable, and good wifi and a good sized TV. We found the kitchen well equipped with everything we needed, and a pint of milk etc in the fridge. The bed was large and very comfortable and we were even offered a choice of pillows. And, being at the back, it was so quiet.!
Plenty of room to park on the forecourt. Just 5 minute walk to eateries and supermarkets, cash point, bus stop etc.
Only missed one thing, we didn't see Shelley's squirrels, but we did see red squirrels at the Botanic Gardens.!
Lovely apartment, with lots of attention to detail and very high quality finish.
Easy walk into Ventnor and great access to the Downs.
The welcome we received from Shelly was lovely and the little treats were very well received.
Amazing!!! What a fabulous apartment. Shelley and Simon have thought of everything you could want it was like being at home with everything to hand.
We're a ten minute walk downhill to the beautiful beach at Ventnor where you can hire deckchairs, sample Minghella's ice cream (delicious!), take a stroll around the charming shops or just relax. In October 2015, a pod of 30 dolphins was spotted here just offshore, there's a great video-clip if you search on You-Tube! Or you could choose to walk down through the very pretty lanes and footpaths of Bonchurch to the beach there - about a 15 minute walk from the house. But our favourite has to be Steephill Cove which you can walk to either from Ventnor beach or via a footpath from the Ventnor Botanic Garden.
Please allow about 30 minutes to drive across the island to Ventnor from the ferry terminals. If you're travelling without a car then the Island offers a good bus service, challenging cycling terrain and many, many miles of footpaths for all abilities.
Foot passengers arriving at Ryde can catch a train to Shanklin where we're happy to collect you by arrangement. We're also able to collect you from other points on the Island and to store bicycles or other equipment (again, by arrangement).
Ventnor Esplanade - 0.4 miles
Bonchurch - 0.4 miles
Ventnor Botanic Garden - 1.3
Shanklin - 3.5 miles
Godshill - 5.5 miles
We're lucky to have the convenience of banks, chain stores and supermarkets alongside the small independent shops that help to make Ventnor so interesting and unique. These include antique furniture, pottery, jewellery, interiors, and of course food shops. And if you like to buy local produce then you're in for a treat with speciality breads, cakes, fresh fruit and vegetables, island meat, wine, fruit juice, honey and ice cream all on sale nearby. There's even fresh fish caught and sold daily down at the Ventnor fishery. Great for those who would want to eat at home or perhaps prepare a picnic to take on a day out.
If cooking while on holiday isn't for you then you'll be pleased to hear that Ventnor is fast becoming known as the food capital of the island. We'll provide you with comprehensive information about eating out both in town and across the island to help you get the most from your stay.
