About Maria Rodrigues
We are a British/Portuguese family. We spend part of year in London, a few months in the Algarve and the rest travelling. We enjoy arriving at a new place and have that feeling of being in a home away from home – I hope we achieve that in our place.
Maria Rodrigues purchased this Villa in 2012
Why Maria Rodrigues chose Figueira
We bought our villa after many years of visiting the western Algarve. The villa is our home during a few months of the year. We fell in love with the peace and quiet of the area and the deserted beaches even in the height of the summer. We enjoy the choice between the western wavy seas and the more relaxing southern cost. And for the days we want something a little more lively, Lagos or Sagres are only a short drive away.
What makes this Villa unique
As soon as you arrive, you feel immediately relaxed and transported to another time and place – a home away from home. For us, there is nothing more relaxing than lounging in the veranda with a cup of tea or coffee. The layout of the house and pool is perfect to capture sunshine all day long. We love the views from the property to the sea and countryside. A major attraction of this location is the access to both the western and southern costs with their different weather and beach offerings. Finally, there are many nice and affordable restaurants in Salema, Lagos and Sagres.

Beautiful holiday home, very helpful owner and great location
My family and I had a wonderful stay here. The house is great. It stayed nice and cool inside, whilst outside it had a lovely sunny position with nice views. It was very well equipped and there were plenty of basics freely available in the kitchen. Also there were lots of pool toys and beach things for us to use (we left some more inflatables too!)
The house is in walking distance of Figueira where there are two or three restaurants. One of which is a very nice pizza place, run by surfers, with a lovely atmosphere and nice selection of drinks.
The house is a short drive from any number of lovely beaches. We went to Lagos, Luz, Salema, Amado, Castelejo and Figueira (half an hour walk from the house).
Maria gave us an extensive list of recommendations which was really helpful. She explained about the markets and beaches as well as local restaurants. We tried Riberio do Poco in Vila do Bispo and it was the best meal of our stay.
We chose to have the pool heated, as our eight year old found it too cold to stay in it for long, otherwise. I'm glad we did as we had so much fun just staying at the villa.
I have nothing negative to say about our holiday - it was wonderful!
Thanks Maria, from Jan and family
Fantastic villa and pool near Silema. Great holiday for adults and small children
Just returned from a fabulous stay at Villa Margarida in Silema. Villa was lovely and very adequate for our stay with 4 adults and 2 small children. The beaches nearby are superb, varied and very clean. Sea a little cold but pool at villa very welcome especially as we had it heated - gated as well making it very safe for children. Plenty of lovely restaurants nearby and supermarket down the road although villa very quiet and private. Would definitely like to return!
Very good location
We found the area very relaxing and reallly liked that the villa gave us a very nice combination of feeling remote, whilst at the same time being in reality close to anything we needed. The house is very well kept, and the owners were very helpful in preparing for our trip. This is a good place to stay for a holiday.
Great for families
We stayed with our children at the villa and found it a perfect place for our time in Portugal. The house is in a discreet area with fantastic views over the Figueira valley (with a glimpse of the sea!). We particularly liked the sheltered outdoor dinning table with its access to the BBQ and relaxing views on the pool and the local hills. Overall highly recommended.
The house is located about 100m off the main road accessible via a newly built roundabout. The road layout has been changed recently and so google maps are not totally accurate.
The nearest beach, which you can see from the villa, is Figueira beach. This is a beautiful unsupervised beach with golden sands and very few people. You can only reach it on foot from Figueira village – 15 minutes walk. A similar secluded beach, about 25m walk, and accessible by car is Furnas Beach (signs from Figueira village too). Salema beach is equally stunning but less private as it is easily accessed. There are many other amazing beaches for swimmer or surfers nearby.
Faro International airport, serviced by most low-cost airlines, approximately 1 hour drive by the motorway. Transfers to Lagos can be booked in advance and there are regular bus services from Lagos all along the cost, but to take full advantage of what Algarve has to offer and explore those secluded coves, we recommend you rent a car. Driving from Lisbon Airport should take you approximately 3 hours via the motorway, which has very little traffic.
Figueira is a 5 minutes walk away.
Salema: 5 minutes drive;
Lagos: 20 minutes drive;
Sagres and Cape St. Vincent: 20 minutes drive.
Many other beaches and fisherman villages within a few minutes drive.
There is a coffee shop and small convenience stores in Figueira. The nearest supermarket is 2km away on the road to Lagos. There is a news-stand with foreign papers and an ATM at this supermarket. In Salema beach, there are restaurants, small fish and bread stands. For a fuller offer, Lagos is only 20 minutes away. We recommend a visit to the fish and vegetable market in Lagos.
