About Cass Delaney
Cass is from Edinburgh, and Charlie from Duns in the Scottish Borders. We live in Ampherlaw Farmhouse with our son, Lachlan and our horses, dogs, cat and chickens!
Cass Delaney purchased this Cottage in 2004
Why Cass Delaney chose Lanark
Before buying Ampherlaw Farmhouse in 2004 we lived just three miles away. We often rode past the house and fell in love with its crow stepped gables and beautiful stonework. Although it was in desperate need of attention, we saw the beauty that lay beneath. We were very lucky to be riding past one day as the For Sale sign was being erected. The rest is history!! We spent the next six years restoring it to its former glory, and at the same time extended into two of the adjoining barns. It is these barns that form the cottage that we offer for self catering holidays.
What makes this Cottage unique
Ampherlaw is a little hidden gem in south Lanarkshire. The beautiful views on a fine day make you think you're living in paradise. Although it has a lovely rural position, it is only a 35 minute drive to Edinburgh. We love staying here as we have horses, dogs, cats and chickens and we love the freedom the place offers.

Excellent home from home for visiting southern Scotland
Had a fabulous week. The cottage is luxurious, quiet and well placed for touring around. Hope to visit again.
You couldn’t find a better place to stay!
Having stayed in quite a few holiday cottages now, l can honestly say this has to be the nicest. It was such a pleasure to be staying in a cottage decorated with love and care. We were very warm and comfortable, there was an abundance of hot water. Finally, a place with quality pans and knives. It makes such a difference.
Our hosts were very welcoming and friendly.
The area was of course, beautiful.
We had a wonderful week and l would recommend this gorgeous cottage to absolutely everyone.

Everything you need in a beautiful property..
My wife and I stayed here for a week at the end of March, celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. First impressions when you walk through the door were of a warm and cosy cottage.
Everything you could need for a stay away was provided.. Cass introduced herself when we first arrived and made us aware of any problems to let her know. We didn’t see her again till we left as we couldn’t fault the cottage!
It’s very quiet, the standard of finish was excellent, it was warm and the wood burner is a beautiful feature. Bed was comfortable, kitchen well equipped and clean and the bathroom was also to a great standard.
We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the location was surrounded by farmland and lovely views. The weather was great too!!
Thank you both so much for our lovely, relaxing stay and have no reservations in recommending this beautiful cottage if you’re looking for a break away that offers luxury at a great price..
Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review of your stay. We are so glad that you found the cottage to be so warm and cosy with everything you could need for your stay. Thank you so much for your recommendation and we hope that we might welcome you again for another stay sometime.
Beautiful country scenery and farmhouse for people who leave daily
(1) WIFI was not good, (2)had to ask for heat, and was told we feel cold because we sit and do nothing (3) also I talk louder because of hearing aid and was informed by her not to scream at her in HER house when I was telling her I was cold (4) We were reprimanded because we left for a few days and didn’t tell them (5) We left a light on when we left for the few days and they had to turn it off. When we left a day earlier than planned we text and told them the date and time if they needed to check us out , they text back with just leave key in box. (6) Did not realize farmhouse was attached to their house so we were constantly trying to keep TV down so they wouldn’t complain Also with the 5 hrs difference in time my children called us after 9 pm when they got off work and trying to speak quietly as we had to keep our door open for WiFi service . Suggest they do not allow Seniors
Thank you for taking the time to review your 19 night stay. I will try to answer your points.
You advised that the WiFi was not working. We immediately gave you access to our own WiFi. The cottage WiFi was restored within 48 hours.
During the spring months the heating is on for 12 hours a day. Our welcome letter asks you to advise if this does not suit. My husband was taken aback by your temper when you came to our door saying you were “freezing. I tried to explain to you that we were happy to provide heating constantly. However, you were quite aggravated and you not only raised your voice but wagged your finger at me. I found this intolerable, so continued the conversation with your wife who repeatedly asked you to calm down. I reminded you that you were welcome to light the wood burning stove which had been laid for your arrival, with logs and coal provided.
I did not say to you that you “feel cold because you sit and do nothing”; I simply stated the fact that you would feel cold due to sitting still and that the cottage actually felt warm when you walked in. No offence was meant by this. The temperature of the cottage on your departure was 23oC.
At no point during your stay did I “reprimand’ you. I said that, whilst we were happy to provide heating constantly, it would have been courteous to let us know that you were leaving the cottage empty for 5 days. During your 5 days away from the cottage lights were left on and we entered to turn these off in order not to present a fire risk.
I was not available when you departed and asked you by email if you would simply lock up and return the key to the safe. This is common practice.
Our property details clearly list the cottage as an annexe. It comprises converted stone barns with three feet thick walls that sound does not permeate. At no point did we give you reason to believe that we might “complain” about you being on the telephone or watching television.
Your statement “Suggest they do not allow Seniors” is simply silly. Over a period of eight years we have welcomed over 300 guests, of all ages. From our 5 star rating across numerous sites, our guests have been delighted with their time spent here. When I came to see you on the evening of your arrival your wife said that the cottage was perfect and your comment in the Visitors book says that the cottage is beautiful. I am not sure where things went wrong for you during your stay.
Great value for money
Beautiful cottage in a nice rural location. Only half an hour from main attractions. I can recommend this whole heartedly.
