Great French family holiday!
We had a great holiday at Le Nid des Hirondelles. Great location: on the edge of the Fontainebleau forest, in a small and pretty village with typical good French boulangerie just round the corner, and a mainline station into Paris (with one change on the way). We wanted to do Disneyland and the Eiffel Tower, and had great days doing both, as well as lots of chilling out in between. We loved the countryside near the house, and a large municipal park (with good skate park which our children enjoyed on their scooters) just 5 mins in the car.
The house is modern, very spacious and unusual: the main feature is the upstairs, which has one room (kitchen, diner, sitting area) with doors onto a very large roof garden with fabulous views along the River Seine in both directions, and across to the forest. Really lovely. But we also enjoyed the downstairs - great shower room, large kitchen/diner with piano, TV/sitting room, and three double bedrooms. Everything was very clean and ready for us.
We were in charge of three cats (which we fell in love with) and some fish. There is also a smallish enclosed garden outside the front door.
We got to Disneyland in about an hour, to Paris by train, and visited the chateau at Fontainebleau, a pretty town at Provins, a pretty artists' village at Barbizon, and a very good big cats park at Nesles (45 mins away). There are forest walks from the door.
Journeys from and to the Channel Ferries involve the Peripherique around Paris, which is not entirely easy.
The owners Louise and Frederic were in touch with us several times before and after our holiday, with useful information, and to make sure all was well with us; we never met them, but friendly neighbours met us on arrival with keys. All went smoothly and we had a great family holiday.
Sehr schönes Feriendomizil
The week we spend at Fontaine le port was super nice. Thank you Louise and frederik for the stay in the wonderful, comfortable and well-equipped house. Unfortunately the weather was not so good, else we would have spend more time on the terrace.
