Peaceful country break
Lovely quiet cottage, nicely decorated and furnished and well equipped. The owners were very friendly but did not intrude on our stay in this lovely peaceful place. Sadly the weather turned cold for our week so we were unable to use the terrace from where there are lovely views across the valley, but there is a very good central heating system. Ideal for a break away from it all and a chance to recharge our batteries. Our only complaint would be that for us the bed was a little soft, but obviously that is just a personal preference. We would love to return sometime.
Lovely friendly owners.stunning location.very comfy cottage with fully equipped kitchen
We had a very relaxing week at Miles Around Cottage which lives up to it's name with wonderful views, perfect to sit out on the thoughtfully placed table and chairs sipping a glass of wine. Lots to see and do nearby. We enjoyed the Tram Museum which offered rides on the trams. Also, of course Blenheim Palace is a must but you need a whole day to explore it. The scenery in the Peaks is glorious. It's a place that will stay in our memories for ever.
Excellent peaceful cottage -well equipped and breathtaking views.
What an amazing little cottage Miles Around’ is. We based ourselves there to walk the Limestone Way. There are many walks from the front door including up to the Heights of Abraham . We found local taxis very helpfull. It was perfect to unwind after a long day walking. The welcome treats of wine and chocolates were much appreciated and although the owners live on site the were completely unobtrusive. We would not hesitate to book this cottage again, and are already planning our next trip.
Lovely, peaceful, picturesque, confortable, cosy, spacious and clean, with everything you need.
Jane and Michael were so helpful in forewarning us about the weather so we managed to get to the cottage the right side of being snowed in :). The cottage was perfect in layout, space and equipment. Everything was really easy, and very comfortable. Although being at the bottom of the peak district means trips to the high peak are obviously longer, the location was really good for touring the peak district generally, as well as for walks straight from the door - which was a real bonus with the snow for the first couple of days, so some truly spectacular snow scenery and deep drift walks. All very lovely, thank you.
Exactly as advertised but better!
If you are looking for a countryside setting, peace and quiet with stunning views and walks from the door then you will love this cottage. You can indeed see for 'Miles Around'. The cottage is spotlessly clean, warm and has everything you need for a relaxing break. Matlock is a 5 minute drive away and is a really lovely town whose centre is a Victorian Park. It has more than its fair share of very good restaurants and cafes. Within a 20 minute drive there is Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Bakewell, Crich Tramway Museum, Matlock Bath, Carsington Waters, Ashbourne plus many more 'things to do'. Highly recommend!
Well equipped, comfortable, cosy, warm and welcoming cottage with wonderful views. With a comfortable double bed, it is perfect for a couple. A dressing room beyond the bedroom adds useful space. That the bathroom is not adjacent to the bedroom gives welcome privacy. Excellent hot water, and deep bath. Delightful and helpful owners. I very much hope to stay again.

About the Area.
Once famed for its hydros and spa treatments, Matlock is now a bustling town surrounded by the spectacular countryside of the Derbyshire Dales. Overlooked by the imposing Smedleys Hydro (now the offices of Derbyshire County Council) and Riber Castle, the town owes much its status to John Smedley who built both these grand edifices, plus several more. The River Derwent and the A6 road both run through the middle of the town, which centres on Crown Square. Matlock boasts an award-winning park - Hall Leys Park, complete with boating lake, riverside paths, tennis courts and skateboard park. It is the first of five beautifully restored public parks stretching along the River Derwent to Matlock Bath. The hillsides around afford some superb viewpoints and superb countryside is literally on the doorstep. With a good range of shops and restaurants plus excellent bus and rail links (on the Derwent Valley train line from Derby) this is an ideal base for exploring the area. Peak Rail runs heritage steam and diesel trains from Matlock station and there is a superb new Leisure Centre on the edge of the town. Don't miss the magical Matlock Bath Illuminations which take place a little further along the river at weekends during September and October.
