About Charles Rising
Long term village residents committed to providing clean, comfortable accommodation to our guests!
Charles Rising purchased this Cottage in 2010
Why Charles Rising chose Buxton
As long term Tideswell residents, we purchased Swift Cottage in 2010 because of its unique, peaceful edge of village location, unparalleled views, yet proximity to the amenities found in the bustling village centre just a few minutes walk away. Our aim from the outset has been to provide guests with a degree of comfort not found in the average Tideswell holiday cottage, installing touches of luxury such as the bathroom with whirlpool bath and underfloor heating, wooden floors in all bedrooms, quality mattresses and linen, free Wi Fi and live streaming movies and news. We live in the village so are always on hand should you need us - yet far enough away so you don’t feel we’re overlooking you or encroaching on your privacy!
What makes this Cottage unique
We are ideally located on a peaceful edge of village location in the very heart of the Peak District National Park. The outdoor dining area (with quality teak furnishing), well-tended garden and views across the dale are unsurpassed within Tideswell. You can easily walk - run or ride a bike - from the front door into surrounding unspoilt countryside. Parking in the Townhead area of the village is plentiful, both on road and in a free Parish Council car park 25 yards to the rear of Swift Cottage. Spectacular country houses such as Chatsworth and Haddon Hall and market towns like Bakewell and Buxton are just a short drive away. The village has excellent facilities including a host of shops, 2 restaurants, 2 tea rooms/cafés and 3 very good pubs which serve local food and drink, all within easy walking distance of the cottage (and several more close by!) Tideswell is a charming 'real' village where the local residents are friendly and life passes at a relaxed pace reminiscent of a past era. Relax and enjoy the setting - we did and decided to stay!

Lovely cottage with beautiful views
We had a lovely week at Swift Cottage. The cottage is well equipped and the main living spaces and outside seating area take full advantage of the beautiful views. The village of Tideswell is so peaceful.
In all of our interactions, the owner, Charles, was very welcoming and helpful.
We would strongly recommend a stay at Swift Cottage.
Lovely location and cottage. Very friendly locals.
Very well equipped cottage. Any problems we had were fixed almost straight away. Beautiful views from the terrace and the local amenities were very good. Would come back for a visit again.
Thank you for your review. I’m glad we were able, as village residents, to address the issues you reported regarding the loose saucepan handles, difficulty opening the fridge door and the loose step outside, without delay. I’m glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you will return soon.
Loved the location of the cottage, plenty of walks from the door.
Thank you for your review! I'm glad you enjoyed your stay with us at Swift Cottage and hope you will return again soon. Charles
We visited Swift cottage for a few days beginning the 29th April 2014. We booked direct with Charles the owner and found him very efficient and helpful. The description and photographs of the cottage on the internet were very accurate. The property was of a very high standard, we travel frequently staying in many properties and found this to be one of the best. The property was very clean, the furnishings modern and comfortable and the view from the front terrace was to die for. It is the first cottage I have ever stayed in where everything I needed was provided. The village was lovely and the surrounding area was great for exploring. I would definitely recommend the cottage and I am sure we will return. Well done Charles and Adelle.
Dear Dennis & Sally, Thank you for taking the time to write this review! We're glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you both again in the not too distant future. Charles & Adelle
Swift Cottage - wonderful!
Wonderful and cosy cottage in a very pleasant village with all the necessary shopping facilities (Co op opens daily until 10 pm). Modern and comfortable furniture, cozy beds and a full equipped kitchen. The look from the front porch is most beautiful and the neighbors are very friendly and helpful.
Many walking opportunities start at the house.
We enjoyed our vacation very much and can really recommend it.
Dear Anja, Thank you for your kind comments left in the guest book and for taking the time to write this review. I'm glad all 5 of you and family enjoyed your two week stay at Swift Cottage while visiting from Germany, making the best of the local sights and amenities and even fitting in a visit to Old Trafford! We hope to see you again.

“Far from the Madding Crowds” as it's often described (if a couple of hundred miles north of the West Country setting of Thomas Hardy’s classic!), Tideswell is an ideal central location to explore the magic of the Peak District National Park.
Swift Cottage is superbly situated as a base from which to discover the Peak District, to relax and unwind or get adventurous and try something new such as a challenging walk (the Five Dales, for example, accessible from the door), or even to take to the skies in a glider!
Tideswell is a real 'working village' which sustains itself (as opposed to a 'dormitory village', like Cressbrook, for example). The village is famous for the large church in its centre known as 'the Cathedral of the Peak’, dating back to 1320 and well worth a visit once you arrive. Tideswell is also very well known for its spectacular Well Dressing and Village Carnival, which takes place on the 3rd Saturday in June every year. The village has 4 great local pubs, 2 cafes, a chemist, family butchers, bakers, fruit and veg shop, 2 fish and chip shops and a Co-Op supermarket which is open 7 days a week until 10 p.m. every night. We actively encourage guests to use the local shops and drink plenty of local ale to help keep the village sustainable - and to make use of the environmentally friendly recycling services.
Also on offer locally are:
Stunning walks in the White Peak and a short drive away in the Dark Peak, for all levels.
Fantastic climbing opportunities nearby on Stanage Edge and the Roaches, considered to provide some of the most challenging routes in Europe.
Gliding and Para Gliding
There are gliding, paragliding and hang gliding schools nearby
The area abounds with unparalleled fly-fishing and coarse fishing in rivers such as the Wye and Dove (of “The Compleat Angler” fame) as well as well-stocked reservoirs. The Wye is reputedly the only river in the UK with a stock of wild, naturally breeding rainbow trout - day permits available!
The Peak District is superb for road cycling and mountain biking alike.
There is so much on offer you can take the Peak District on at your own pace and keep on coming back for more!
