About Kay Keesee
I'm a long-time Austinite, a graduate of the University of Texas. Leadership Austin and Leadership Texas taught me the importance of community involvement. I enjoy watching Austin evolve and grow. I'm devoted to the mission of The Settlement Home for Children. I happily spend my time volunteering for the Home and working to put on our nationally know Settlement Home Garage & Estate Sale.
Kay Keesee purchased this House in 1977
Why Kay Keesee chose Zilker
Zilker is a classic and prized vintage neighborhood. The main house is 80 years old - a 30's bungalow typical of the era . A few years ago friends who had never been here came to stay. They took an early morning walk and came back, "It's like a little old Texas town here!" True, the gardens are lush, lots of flowers, huge Live Oak trees. I'm a serial re-modeler, so the place is little different than when I bought it. A couple of years ago I discovered that building is even more exciting than remodeling. For me a crowning achievement was the opportunity to build La Serena. The process was fascinating and fun! My architect and builder did a great job. What I didn't expect is that they would build that mellow Austin Vibe into this place. My guests come up here and don't want to leave - it's that sweet. Hence the name, La Serena, because it really is.

Perfect accommodations in a wonderful neighborhood within easy reach of so many things. Kay went over and above to make us feel welcome, and we'll certainly visit La Serena on our next visit to Austin.
Another great stay at LaSerena...thanks, Kay..!
Our third visit, and Kay’s hospitality and the quality of the accommodations never disappoint..!
Fabulous in every way
We were thrilled with our choice: quiet, but central. Privacy in an almost treehouse-like setting (surrounded by nature). Easy 5 min walk to restaurants / bars... and another 5 min to Zilker park. Quick into downtown, and anywhere you want to go.
Space is clean, bright, and airy. Although it's not a big place, it feels spacious and has everything you need for your stay. All the comforts of home. Cozy bed; good shower - well laid out.
Kay is lovely too. Very helpful and welcoming, but also gives you your privacy and space (she lives on-site, but not in the same building, so it's truly the best of both worlds)
Easy and efficient check-in/out...
We would 100% stay there again, and would highly recommend it to family and friends.
The place to stay in Austin!
A new, curated apartment that is about the size of a small hotel suite. The host, Kay was great. Check in was super easy and the finishes throughout the unit were very nice! You'll have a private suite in a suburban setting that is central to all. I would highly recommend this space!
What a great stay we had at La Serena! Kay has a clean, updated apartment in a quiet and centrally located area. Everything was thought of including shopping bags, lawn blanket and an umbrella.
Just a quick walk down the hill took us to a local market to stock the fridge with snacks then dinner and music. A few blocks farther and we were at Zilker Park playing in the waters of Barton Springs.
We took the park paths to watch the bats, but for those not in the mood to walk there are plenty of scooters or bikes to rent to take you to many of Austin's great eateries.
At night we enjoyed coming home to a peaceful street to settle in for a peaceful sleep.
Definitely would recommend this vrbo to friends and family.
Laserena was amazing!
What a great location and wonderful host! Kay was warm and welcoming. The location was perfect, quiet but easy access to downtown via the 30 bus , and the bus drivers are so personable! We would definitely stay at LaSerena if/ when we return to Austin!
