Spacious 5 bed, 3 bath, 2 reception roomed cottage in beautiful countryside near the stunning coast of South Devon.
My sister and I are the owners of Oak Cottage. We are from London, have four boys and two girls between us and family and friends all over the country. We wanted to find a place we could all get together for great family holidays. We bought in a beautiful area with lots to offer so that extended family and friends could get together whenever we wanted in a comfortable, well equipped house that was everything we wanted from our 'home from home'. We have had 19 years of brilliant times at Oak Cottage with loads of wonderful memories. We use it a little less now the kids are older (we now tend to come for shorter breaks with family/friends and my sister has actually moved to Devon) which is why we are renting it out. We want it to be well used and enjoyed as it should be - which seems to be the case judging by the reviews!
Owner purchased this Cottage in 1999
Why Owner chose Kingsbridge
Living in London we really wanted somewhere to get away to that was completely different from our everyday surroundings and that we could set up exactly the way we wanted. We had holidayed in this part of the country and loved it - the South Hams area of Devon has beautiful unspoilt English countryside with narrow lanes, high hedges, green fields, quaint villages and you are never far from the stunning coastline and beaches that we love. There are fabulous views, good walking, lovely beaches, golf courses (we are keen golfers), numerous other activities, good pubs and restaurants. Something for everyone whatever the time of year and all in a lovely 'away from it all' setting! We loved this house because of the space and flexibility it offered - 5 bedrooms but also loads of living and entertaining space - it never feels full even with 12 of us there!
What makes this Cottage unique
Oak Cottage is in a quiet rural setting with other converted cottages. The cottage is very spacious and well equipped and the beautiful 1.5 acre communal garden is there to be enjoyed by everyone complete with brick built BBQ and picnic tables. The games area at the cottage is very popular and there is plenty of other space to spread out and relax. The large kitchen with table and seating for 14 is the hub of the house and gets lots of compliments. We have a great on-site caretaker, Simon, who will help you settle in - he is a font of local knowledge and only too pleased to help and advise. Some years he also breeds Barn Owls and these prove a very popular attraction, the children in particular love to feed them! While you do need a car you are never far from stunning beaches, fabulous walking, golf, shops, pubs and restaurants and there are plenty of other activities on offer.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Great location close to lovely coastal towns, quiet, lovely garden for kids, loads of space to spread out in property for 3 families, kitchen facilities amazing with ample utensils, fridge space and crockery.
Fantastic getaway for all ages - book this one !
Huge country cottage with remarkable amount of "extras". The caretaker actually brought in my grocery delivery( which was very early) and put freezer items away. Greeted with fresh flowers and M&S biscuits, sparkling clean. Toys for the toddlers, amazing BBQ on the property and a rolling garden with baby ducks for the kids to see. We had 12 people who were all very comfortable and plenty of dishes glasses etc for everyone. Beautifully decorated cottage which looks small on the outside but is literally a tardis on the inside. We loved every minute - even in the rain. Beaches and grocery stores in an easy drive. Slow , very narrow country lanes - so add time to journey time if going out and about. Memories for a lifetime !!
Beautiful and Comfortable Home Base
We had a lovely time staying in this well equipped and comfy home. It was a great base to explore from and to return to each day.
Thank you very much Roger for your review, we are delighted that you were able to enjoy Christmas with extended family using Oak Cottage as your base for exploring the area and that you looked forward to returning there after each busy day! We do hope we can welcome you back sometime. Kind regards
Perfect for our 3 generation family holiday
This lovely holiday home was exactly what we had hoped for. The listing description was completely accurate and as an added bonus, detailed route to the property supplied by the owner (who was very helpful and friendly when contacted by us before our departure for the holiday) was perfect. The property was very clean and obviously well maintained. Simon the caretaker was very attentive if anything was required or information needed. We would definitely recommend this property as there plenty of room for 6 adults and 5 teenagers to have their own space if needed. The very large garden was perfect for a game of cricket and as the weather was good, the secluded barbecue area was used on three consecutive evenings.
During our week here we visited Kingsbridge, Slapton, Brixham and Dartmouth, where we took the ferry to visit Greenway, the summer home of Agatha Christie. We also spent a day on the lovely sandy beach at Bantham Sands. You really do need to be at the more popular beaches quite early, as we learnt after being unable to park at Blackpool sands one afternoon! We found Start Point a good spot for a lovely walk with gorgeous views out to sea. Another handy walk nearby is Slapton sands and Ley. We did not visit any restaurants but had magnificent fish and chips at the far side of the harbour at Brixham sitting on the wall in the sun.
What a great review - thank you very much Sue. We are always so pleased to hear that our guests have loved the cottage, the space it offers and its surroundings and that the service we provide helped make it a great week's holiday. Sounds like you definitely made the most of all that this beautiful part of Devon has to offer - Start Point being my favourite! We look forward to welcoming you back again in the future. Best wishes, Jude.
Perfect for our family holiday
Great from start to finish. We were 3 families 6 adults and 5 young ones aged from 12 to 16. We had good weather so we had three excellent barbecue evenings in the lovely garden. Cottage well equipped with all we needed and more. Pool / table tennis table was used by young and old. Very well maintained and Simon the caretaker was most helpful with advice on things to do and places to go. Would reccomend a holiday here without hesitation, we even got used to the high hedges and narrow roads.
Thank you very much Sue for a lovely review. We are always very pleased to hear that our guests have had a great time, enjoyed everything the cottage has to offer and are happy to recommend us to others. We look forward to seeing you again sometime. Best wishes, Jude.
Wonderful place for a family holiday.
Great location, fully equipped with everything you'd need for a great family holiday. Garden was fantastic with BBQs and plenty of room for kids to play. Communication with the owner was excellent with notes provided on everything in the house and things to do in the surrounding area.
Thank you very much for a really great review Brian, we are so pleased you loved the house and garden - you certainly had lovely weather to enjoy both! We try hard to ensure that holiday makers have all the information they need up front so they can really plan, relax and enjoy a lovely holiday in beautiful South Devon. We really hope to welcome you and the family back sometime soon.
With kind regards
