Launceston/Camelford area - The Best Of Both Worlds
I'm an artist, writer, poet, photographer, video maker, counsellor and hypnotherapist. I love nature and the countryside which is why I chose this beautiful place to live. While the studio had been used by an artist previously I refurbished it to a high specification to take advantage of the views, light, and proportions of the building. If you're interested in counselling or hypnotherapy while you're here please feel free to ask for details and prices. I have many years professional experience.
Cathy purchased this Cottage in 2010
Why Cathy chose Launceston
I chose this area due to the secluded location, which is also within reach of the coast and its wonderful beaches. All year round it's peaceful and wildlife abounds. The light here is extraordinary, ideal for painting and photography. Each season is different, and the creatures who live and visit here, especially the birds are fascinating. In winter you can see the Starling murmurations every sunset and in the summer housemartins play. And yes, there are Woodpeckers too. The cuckoo comes in late spring, there is a often buzzard majestically soaring on the air currents. Down by the river is a kingfisher, and numerous other birds. At night there is no light pollution so you can watch the Milky Way and find your way by the light of the Moon. The Studio provides the best of both worlds. You can soak up the wonderful peace of the natural surroundings, and explore some of the areas more tourists visit during the summer, coming back to your sanctuary whenever you like. Some use it as a retreat, which it's ideal for.
What makes this Cottage unique
The Studio is both comfortable and practical. All you might need for both a holiday, retreat and artistic inspiration is here. If you're an Artist, photographer, birdwatcher, nature lover, or just in need of a break from a busy life you will find what you seek. The area is utterly beautiful. with stunning views, quiet country lanes and paths, historical sites and places to explore. It is a feast for the eyes and soul. As I live in a nearby cottage I'm able to ensure the Studio is maintained to a high standard. I'm also available for artistic advice or opinion should you feel the need for it, or information about the surrounding area and some hidden gems. I can also leave you in complete peace. The choice is yours. My wish to ensure you have the holiday you would like.

A peaceful place to stay and connect with nature.
A spacious and beautiful studio with stunning views. Very quiet and private. Great place to get away from it all. Cathy is a super host providing all you need plus a few little extras :) Would definitely return and recommend.
Absolutely wonderful Studio!
This Studio was the perfect place for a long weekend away with a loved one. Cathy very kindly made some scones on arrival which were great and said if we needed anything then she was always available. Highly recommend this lovely place and I will be sure to return soon!
Excellent short break
Excellent short break at woodpecker studio, description of the property was spot on and Cathy gave a friendly welcome with fresh scones. Excellent location to get some relaxing time. Thankyou Cathy for letting us stay at the studio.
Our last minute break in Cornwall
My partner and i decided we really needed to get away for a few days, very last minute as always. After coming across the Woodpecker Studio i was very surprised to find the dates we wanted were available so we snapped them up straightaway. On arrival we were greeted by Cathy and given the keys to the studio and left to our own devises. The studio is gorgeous with more than enough space for two of us, in fact it was hard to get ourselves ready to actually leave the studio to go exploring. There's everything in the studio that your likely to need, a comfy couch, seating on the veranda, a little secluded garden you can sit in and be surrounded by all the birds, and the bed is almost impossible to get out of. If your looking for somewhere peaceful with lovely views then this is the place for you. Being relatively central in north Cornwall you can get to many places in under hour, Looe, Newquay and the Eden project being just a few places we visited.
All in all it was a great stay at Woodpecker Studio, we'll definitely be staying with you again in the future Cathy.

Great place for nature lovers
We had a great time at Cathy’s. The cottage is positioned in the middle of the nature with the coastline and its sights at 30mns drive. Cathy was very welcoming and its a nice and private place. We had to get used to the softness of the bed though.
I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. You were great guests. Apologies if the mattress was softer than you're used to. I made sure I got a good quality, medium firmness one so that it would please as many people as possible.
I had a wonderful stay, peaceful and relaxing, in a beautiful location. So many nice touches and Cathy is the perfect host. The biscuits were delicious after a long day of travel. The best stay on my trip so far!
I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay. You were a delightful guest and it was great to meet you.
The North Cornwall coast is within easy driving distance (about 20 minutes). This means you can easily spend time at (from East to West) Bude, Widemouth Bay, Crackington Haven, Boscastle, Tintagel, Trebarwith Strand, Port Isaac. If you'd like to travel a little further there are numerous other beautiful beaches further down the coast.
It would not be possible to stay at the Studio without your own transport. The Studio is a few miles from the A30 & A395.
Located in the tiny hamlet of St Clether. The largest and most ancient Holy Well in Cornwall is within walking distance of the Studio. The nearest main towns are Launceston & Camelford, which are 10 and 8 miles away respectively. Both are ancient and interesting places. There are many ancient and beautiful lanes to walk from the Studio, where nature and wildlife proliferates. Numerous beaches are within around 10 miles, and a vast array of places of interest within easy driving distance.
The area has a variety of restaurants and pubs with eating facilities. The nearest shops are however approximately 10 miles away, so be sure to bring or collect supplies on your way.
