The Longhouse Sleeps 7 (3 Bedrooms)
Cullacott is a Grade 1 listed medieval Hall House situated in peaceful countryside near the Devon and Cornwall border. It is situated in a cobbled courtyard on a small working farm which has been in the family for 5 generations and commands splendid panoramic views over the Ottery Valley. The restoration of the property jointly won the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors' National Building Conservation award for best restored house. Its sensitive restoration has ensured the house has preserved its basic simplicity and yet great care has been taken to provide every comfort for the visitor. There are two self-contained units, the Longhouse and the Tudor Wing, both with entrances onto the cobbled courtyard and with a large garden and sunny terrace overlooking the fields running down to the river.

About Mary Cole
My family have lived at Cullacott Farm for over 100 years so we know every crook and cranny of the houses and of the surrounding land. We live on site so are available at all times to help guests in whatever way we can. We love the area in which we live and are eager for our guests to get the most out of their holiday with us by not only offering a unique building to stay in but also by using our local knowledge to inform them of events happening locally and interesting things to do to suit all tastes.
Mary Cole purchased this Farmhouse in 1910
Why Mary Cole chose Werrington
As mentioned in my profile, my family have lived at Cullacott Farm for over 100 years. It is situated on the Southern side of the beautiful river Ottery valley with fantastic views of the countryside. It is in an ideal position for exploring both Devon and Cornwall, with Launceston the ancient capital of Cornwall just 3 miles away.

Wow!! Escapism and adventure with homely touches what more could you want!
Some people pre-plan their breaks away months and weeks in advance to get what they want. We booked this very last minute and have been so impressed! Take one fantastic, charming historic house offering buckets of intrigue, add lots of homely touches, beautiful gardens with stunning views and more than adequate comfortable living areas (comfy beds and sofas) and great info on how it all came to be, Mary and her family have created something really super special. An epic stay, thoroughly enjoyed by us all... we will be back. Just make sure you're good with narrow stairs. An experience we would thoroughly recommend. Brilliant.
Not really suitable for children due to the stairs and steps. I would advise a minimum age of 10 yrs.
There are also no handrails on the stairs, which would/could help going up and down the stairs.
Fortnight family fun
We stayed at the lovely Cullacot farmhouse the first two weeks of August 2017. The suburb 15th century house and lovely garden provided a perfect location for all 7 of us, 4 adults, 3 children and dog. We immediately fell in love with the whole farmhouse but especially with the great hall where we spend most of our evenings. John and Mary were very welcoming and their open door policy mend we could always ask questions about the area. We really appreciated the personal touch of the home made lemon cake on arrival. The kitchen was well equipped, the mattresses and sofas were comfortable. We BBQ'ed and played Smite in the garden. We used Cullacot as a base for many explorations in Devon and Cornwall. We recommend Bude for beach and surfing, Padstow, Clovelly, Adrenaline Quarry and the excellent Tamar Otter Park which is walking distance. All in all highly recommend; we will try to return.
Christmas dinner served in a vaulted dining hall was everything we had hoped for. Walking across the slate flagstones in the footsteps of so many before, climbing steep winding wood stairs to the master bedroom with splendid bed with crisp linens, surrounded by wood burning aromas gave the feeling of living in history.
Many quirks of a historic old building, understated thoughtful presentation, great linens and towels.
Would have got 5* if the shower had worked.
Beautiful and unusual medieval holiday property in peaceful surroundings
The Longhouse at Cullacott is a beautiful and unusual holiday property. It maintains the original charm and features of a medieval house, including original artwork, beams, stone and wooden floors, and a quirky staircases. It combines these with modern amenities, making it a cosy and interesting place to stay. The Longhouse is surrounded by peace and tranquility as it is located in the countryside. The views from the garden of fields and rolling hills dotted with sheep is very lovely. It is a short drive into Launceston, which also has some interesting historical features. We would definitely stay here again.
Thank you - we are pleased you were able to appreciate qualities of our unique historic house.
Wow! Amazing place. Like staying in a castle or museum. Have to experience it!
Everyone of us from 7 months to 40s loved the place. Not quite designed for tall people with short door frames but not a complaint as I wouldn't change it because of the athentic feel. Just have to learn to duck :). Beautiful gardens. We hired the two cottages together and really enjoyed getting the full experience you wouldn't get with just one. Each room is full of character.
We're so glad you felt the unique atmosphere of our property and enjoyed your stay. Thank you for your comments.
