Recently awarded Cornish Quality status and furnished to a high standard, The Shippen gives a feeling of space and light with its mainly high vaulted and beamed ceilings. The property is kept warm and cosy in winter (and on cooler summer evenings) by the centrally placed log burner. We provide a complimentary box of logs for your stay. A large fireguard for child protection is kept in the porch. The kitchen is open plan with the living room on the ground floor. A step up and door then gives access to the bathroom and twin-bedded room, which also has a truckle bed for an extra child and a baby travel cot. The kingsized-bedded room is accessed by a spiral staircase from the living room. The sheltered courtyard with barbecue, table, chairs and sun shade is the perfect place to come back to at the end of a busy day and to enjoy a relaxing meal with a bottle of wine, catching the last rays of evening sun!
Barn in Bude, Cornwall, England - Peaceful, Rural Location, Under 3 Miles From The Coast At Bude
About Ro Flawn
We moved to Gloucestershire in 2008, having previously lived in Hertfordshire and having owned a holiday house in Suffolk. We've always loved Cornwall and decided last year to look for a family holiday property there. To our delight we found the Shippen!
Ro Flawn purchased this Barn in 2014
Why Ro Flawn chose Launcells
Staying at the Shippen you will get the best of both worlds! Just over 2 miles from the seaside at Bude and in a beautiful, rural location. Stratton village with excellent general store and 2 pubs is under a mile away. Close to many other lovely beaches, the coastal path and visitor attractions in both Devon and Cornwall.

A wonderful place to stay with so much to do and see
The shippen is an absolute gem of a place! Spotlessly clean and everything you could possibly need. I will definitely visit again as a good cottage is hard to find!
Thank you so much for your great review - I hope you were able to re-charge the batteries after your busy half-term! We have tried, over the years, to include all the lovely personal touches that we have experienced in the properties we have visited. Thank you once again for visiting the Shippen.
Great Holiday Home
Whilst the weather wasn't great, the charming Shippen was. As soon as you enter the home, you can see that its a well looked after, well equipment home. The wife and I both agreed that the Shippen had a very homely feel about it and all the extras, however small, all added up to a Holiday home that did us well.
A special mention to Ro, the owner, flawless in communications, very friendly and very helpful. Thankyou for allowing us to stay in this wonderful home in Cornwall.
As others have said previously, if your over 6ft, the upstairs bedroom is a challenge, and if you like it totally dark then be mindful of the skylights (some of which are not within reach so you cannot put blinds on them etc). But that's it, charming place, would we go back to the Shippen, yes, but only if the inlaws don't book it first!
Thank you so much for your great review and useful comments. Over the years we have rented some lovely holiday properties and have learnt how much a few little extras can make a holiday special. You would all be very welcome to visit again and hopefully we might hear from you at some future date. Kind regards.
Great stay, nice quiet location.
Everything lived up to our expectations and meant we had a great holiday. Mini wetsuit was a big hit with my granddaughter. Would happily recommend to anyone.
Thank you very much for your review - I'm so pleased you enjoyed your holiday. I thought that my grandchildrens' little wet suits might come in useful one day! I hope we might welcome you back at some future date - you would be most welcome.
Great location and fabulous property
Wonderful one week stay at The Shippen for my family of 4 plus dog. The house is well set up with open plan living, useful for us as our dog likes to stay close to us. The property is in a rural location but only 10 mins drive from Bude and the A39 which takes you to Boscastle, Tintagel, Padstow and beyond. Most beaches are dog-friendly as are a lot of shops and even churches. Kids will love Summerleaze beach and the sea pool but do also check out Black Rocks and Northcott beaches - great for rock-pooling and exploring.
Thank you for your lovely review of your stay at the Shippen - I'm so pleased you and your family enjoyed your week and discovered many more of the places that draw people to Cornwall year after year. It was good to hear that more beaches are welcoming dogs during the summer months!
I hope we will be able to welcome you back at some future date.
Nice holiday home
We had a nice time at the cottage. 7 nights, the cottage was very well equipped with good homely touches. A welcoming selection of scones and jams, plus tea coffee and milk available upon arrival ( very nice after a 7 hour drive). Shampoos and shower gels plus comfortable beds and soft towels.
The only negative was the height and triangular shape of the bedroom ceiling which is difficult to navigate if you're over 6 ft. The tv does not have particularly good reception.
Overall it is obvious the owner and housekeeper care and take time to ensure you enjoy your stay. Thank you Ro for accepting such a late booking
Thank you for your review of the Shippen - we have tried to make it a 'home from home' for our guests.
I am sorry you found the TV reception poor during your stay - sometimes it needs a little adjustment after thunderstorms. We will address this issue for future guests - thank you for letting us know.
Nice cosy barn in North Cornwall, ideal for long weekend. All amenities as stated and excellent directions. SUrrounded by country lanes but that is as expected. Very quiet but only a few minutes from Bude.
Thank you for your comments about the Shippen. I hope we will be welcoming you back sometime in the future - maybe for a longer break.
