He is originally from Juno, Florida, moved to Hiawassee upon his retirement in 2002, and in 2011 married Amanda Swett of nearby Young Harris, GA. Amanda is a former Manager of Hiawassee Apartments and Young Harris Apartments, and is currently the Owner of Mandy’s Cleaning Service. The Swetts now live at Wildflower Hollow Farm, a 32 acre estate 8 miles east of Hiawassee.
Chris Swett purchased this House in 1998
Why Chris Swett chose Hiawassee
The North Georgia Mountains host some of the most beautiful, yet affordable, places to live in the United States. Bel Aire Overlook takes advantage of a sunny southern exposure and 400 foot elevation (above the valley) to host a spectacular view of the lake and mountains, with the highest point in Georgia, Brasstown Bald, center stage. The wonderful view is combined with the convenience of being within the Hiawassee city limits without feeling like you're in town.
What makes this House unique
Hiawassee hosts Georgia Mountain Fair and Anderson Music Hall, which provide year-round entertainment with frequent concerts, special events and the annual North Georgia Fair and Fall Festivals. Lake Chatuge offers boating, fishing, water skiing, swimming and other recreation activities. The location is also convenient to tourist destinations such as Helen, Blue Ridge, and Harrahs Cherokee Valley River Casino in Murphy, NC. It is a convenient drive from the Atlanta Metro area and a great summer escape from the heat of south and central Florida.

The best host in the world!!
Chris went out of his way to help us with a situation we had after we arrived and took time to talk with a local business on his own time to do so. Our German Shepherd thoroughly enjoyed all the space both floors provided and we enjoyed the time to just relax and take in the tremendous views(especially at night) and the town of Hiawassee itself. Everyone we came across was very friendly. Just a warning though that the road up to the cabin is steep so make sure your vehicle is in good shape and the brakes are good. It takes a little getting used to but after going up and down a few times it was a piece of cake. But that was the only downside. The cabin was everything it promised to be and again Chris is an excellent host and really takes care of the place and any folks staying there.
We took a ride out to Helen during our stay and it is an awesome road(HWY 75/17) for any of you bikers out there. HWY 76 also provides some great twisty's going toward Clayton.
People friendly! Every detail cared for and covered for our stay!
We were pleasantly surprised to find a true mountain rental home with everything we could ever need and so much more! From the three comfortable beds, in completely suited bedrooms, to the wrap-around deck with plenty of seating choices (and tables!) to bird-watch, sip your morning beverage, share a meal, and simply relax and take in the beautiful fresh air and lovely views, we were in awe of this find. We cooked a meal on the gas grill, played many games of pool, watched a few movies, made breakfast on the Jenn Aire gas range, and baked potatoes in the "upper" oven. The decor is up-to-date and so comfy and well thought out. The downstairs was a complete sanctuary for our teenage son, with his own full bath and mini kitchen! What a dream of a stay! Thank you to Chris and Mandy for sharing your home and all of its amenities with us--the only things we needed, except for food and beverages, of course, were our personal items and some foil and zipper bags to wrap up any leftovers. We are also thankful for the amazing communication from start to finish--we felt appreciated and welcome! This is a place we could come to regularly, in the on or off season--and we only live two hours away! Thank you for everything!
We loved this cabin!! So roomy and comfortable! Beautiful breathtaking view!! We will be back!!

Lovely place; everything needed for a wonderful weekend get away; would definitely rent again!!
Thank you so much, Peggy! We’d love hosting you again!
Beyond our expectations!
A girls week end led us to rent Bel Aire Overlook. It was clean, well appointed, well stocked, well maintained and beyond our expectations. It was convenient to town but offered a fabulous view. The Swett's were kind and wonderful to work with. Our week end turned out better than we had hoped and we will go again. Thank you to Swett's for allowing us the privilege of renting and enjoying your home.
Thank you so much for the great review! We love sharing our mountain home and you all were perfect guests! Please come back and stay with us again soon!
Short But Great Get Away With Another Couple
I have read through several of the reviews on Chris and the rental property. All they say is true. The property is comfortable, clean, well stocked with many unexpected extras, and the view was great. We happened to rent at the right time and received a great last minute rate, too. We are referring this to several of our friends, and definitely plan to stay again at some point in the future.
One minor thing I might mention, which was not a problem for us, but might be if everyone in your party are older seniors. The small circular staircase between the first and second floor might be of concern. Also the steep road up to the property, while normally not a problem, could be in snow or icy weather.
All in all, a really nice place to stay.
Thanks Chris, From Bill, Betty, Pete and Evlyn
Thanks for that great review, Bill! Your concerns are very relevant. We have discussed the narrow, spiral staircase with a number of guests, not only with respect to seniors and those with limited mobility, but also families with small children and toddlers. No one has yet had a problem negotiating the stairs, but it’s definitely a consideration. I’ll have to add some additional pictures so folks can see it so they can voice any concerns before booking. With respect to snow and ice on the roads, in the approximately one year we’ve been renting the house it’s been inaccessible for one day, Dec. 7, 2017, and we had no guests scheduled. Fortunately, Bel Aire Drive is a southern exposure road and snow melts quickly, usually only after a few hours in full sun. Weather inaccessibility is a full, immediate refund situation though, no questions asked.
