Cwary Vean was built by Viscount Clifton, circa 1900. The single storey cottage has light, spacious rooms with high ceilings. An enclosed veranda with table and chairs is the perfect place to take in the sea view or to catch the winter sun. The garden patio area catches the Summer sun from rising to setting. There is a private gate from the garden onto the lane leading down through a grass meadow over a brook less than 10 minutes to Polurrian beach and the coastal path. Situated midway between village and beach, Cwary Vean is ideal for walkers or beach lovers, but conveniently placed as a centre from which to explore the peninsular's wide diversity of villages, beaches, estuaries, woods, moors and exotic gardens. The accommodation is spacious and airy in summer but, with central heating and a log burner cosy and warm in Winter. There is too much to see and visit in a single week on the peninsular-which means I frequently get returning visitors and have made many friends who come every year. Some guests come purely for the peace and quiet of our valley location-they park the car on arrival and do not use it again until it's time to leave. Others use the cottage as a convenient centre to range far and wide (or just to go to the beach every day). Do please telephone or email if you have any queries or would like any extra information at all.

About Chris Morley
As a child growing up in the village, the beaches, woods, valleys and moors were all magical places that I explored and loved. Cwary Vean always had a faint air of mystery and quirkiness for me as a youngster. As an 'oldster', I was delighted to be able to buy it in 2000. It had a warm and welcoming feel but, a bit like an old dog in a rescue home, was much in need of TLC (and four years dedicated hard work, which became my perfect retirement project!) I just love being here and making the holiday cottage available as a base for guests to have ‘proper Cornish’ holidays. Cwary Vean has been welcoming self catering holiday guests since 2004; I have met some lovely people (including Carole on the beach but that’s another story). I have made good friends whom I look forward to seeing every year & who still make new discoveries every visit. I always wanted to return to Cornwall and Mullion and the friendly villagers and community of my childhood upbringing. Cwary Vean was the perfect location; snugly placed, in the small quarry from which it was built and named, the house is sheltered from severe weather but retains beautiful sea and valley views. About halfway between village shops, pubs, restaurants etc. & Polurrian beach, the location is the perfect balance between rural tranquillity and accessible village facilities. Here one can relax in peace without hearing much more than a few gulls or passing horses, or go for a pre breakfast swim before heading off to explore the hugely diverse Peninsular. There are so many interesting and exciting things to see and do in a relatively small area that I never want to be anywhere else.

Really good All you need
A really good week lovely location close to the beach Great location for the dogs Chris was excellent helpful and polite as were many of the locals Fully recommend this cottage
Thank you! It was grand to meet you both and the great trio, we loved having you all to stay in the cottage. I am pleased we managed some good exploring and walking weather for your visit. Cornwall seems frequently to enjoy sunny and warmer than expected Autumn days-so I am pleased it delivered for your holiday.
Thank you for coming-I hope we shall see you back to explore some more of the peninsular-you will be most welcome when you return.
In the meantime have a great Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year.
A Fabulous cottage.
This cottage looks small from the outside but I was pleasantly surprised when we went in. It is very roomy and comfortable and clean with very comfortable beds. Every thing you need for a good stay. A very short walk along a track to a beautiful secluded beach and some stunning walks from the cottage. Its a bit tricky to find but if you follow the instructions given by Chris the owner ( who is very welcoming and friendly along with his wife and golden Labrador) you will be fine. Although you are away from the crowds there is a very nice village nearby and access to all parts of the peninsular are easy to reach. I will definitely return to this cottage. Maybe next time for 2 weeks as there is too much to see to fit into 1 week. The fact that I could take my dogs for a small extra charge was a bonus.
Thank you so much for coming to stay and for your kind review. We will love to have you back to stay for 2 weeks next time-but it still won't be long enough to see all there is to explore (and photograph). Even when you have seen it all in Summer-the same places seem totally different as the seasons change. After all these years I still cannot decide which season I like the best.
You will be very welcome when you return and we look forward to that.
Quiet location. Perfect for dogs and children
Loved walking straight out of the garden gate, down a short path to the beach and the Cornish Coastal path. Perfect location for dog walkers and families with children. Cottage is well equipped and cosy. Friendly and helpful owner. Easy walk to village pub and shops. Such a relaxing and enjoyable holiday.
Thank you both for coming to stay at Cwary Vean and thank you too for taking the time to review us. It was a real pleasure to have you to stay and to know that you enjoyed the Cottage and the various places to explore and eat out. We know our guests love it here-but it is always good to have this confirmed in the reviews and it does make our efforts to ensure that everything is as good as we can make it well worth while.
I hope Margot and Ronnie will persuade you to return-tell Ronnie 'Gladys Emmanuel awaits....'
A peaceful and idyllic location perfect for the SW Coastal path and local beaches
Cwary Vean was perfect for our 2 boys and dog, Chris and Tilly made us feel very welcome giving us the space we required but also letting us know nothing was too much trouble should we require. The cottage has a warm ambience and worked perfectly for our trip with all necessary equipment amply provided. A small conservatory / utility type building is great for breakfast with a view of the sea; the area also works well as a porch for removing dirty footwear and drying walking / beach clothing. Ideally positioned for the local beaches, a short walk to Polurrian Cove and the SW Coast Path. The lovely village of Mullion is also a short walk providing a good selection of shops, pubs, and fast food outlets. We hoped to booked again for 2019, unfortunately our dates had already been taken. A great stay providing the peace and quiet we required. Thank you to Chris, we hope to return in the future.
Thank you so much-it is very kind of you to take the time to review your stay. It was a pleasure to have you and your family (and Maggie) staying for the fortnight in the Cottage. I was pleased that the boys enjoyed themselves and the large rooms when they were inside. Perhaps their enthusiasm for Monopoly may influence future ambitions!
We wish you all well and you will be most welcome to return any time.
The perfect location, home from home
We were a party of 3 adults, 2 young kids and a dog! We had a fantastic time in Cwary Vean. The house was comfortable and clean and had everything we needed. A beautiful quiet beach within walking distance ,close proximity to Mullion and a short drive to lots of fun and interesting places for the kids.
Chris was the perfect host and gave us lots of good tips and advice on getting the most out of our stay in Cornwall. Nothing was too much trouble. He even arranged wall to wall sunshine for us for the entire week we were there!!
We would not hesitate to recommend Cwary Vean and would gladly return there again- still loads more to see and do!
Duggan Family, Oxford.
Thank you! It is a real pleasure to have such lovely people on holiday in the Cottage next door! We enjoyed having you all to stay and it is one of the unexpected bonuses of operating the holidaylet that we meet so many nice people. We are lucky that the Cottage, even though it was built over 100 years ago, lends itself so well to providing so much more than 'Cottage space'....the wall to wall sunshine was very welcome, but the large rooms and high ceilings were are great for 'summer cool'. I think we are very fortunate too in our location- I don't think that could be any better; any more than we could wish for better guests than the Duggan family! I hope we shall see you all again one day to explore some of the rest of the Lizard peninsular.
A perfect cosy cottage for a get away from it all but just 5 minutes walk away from the facilities of the village. 5 minutes walk in the opposite direction takes you through the fields to Pollurian cove and the coastal footpath.
The cottage is spotlessly clean, warm, comfortable and well equipped for all holiday needs.
Chris the owner is particularly helpful and has a wealth of knowledge of the local area.
This is perfect dog walking country.
We have also played golf at Mullion golf club.
A perfect place to explore the lovely unspoilt Lizard peninsula. I would highly recommend Cwary Vean
Special interest holidays:
Locations and settings for Poldark TV and numerous films both modern and Classic
Local fishermen will take small parties fishing for mackerel which make a wonderful supper on the barbecue. Polurrian is also favourite for rod and line and the sea bass is even better than the mackerel.
Dressed crab and lobster are available to order as is fresh fish (from named local boats).
Polurrian beach is a favourite with geologists, being divided by a fault line & carrying well marked breccia (geological survey map available on request).
Sailing, surfing and horse riding are all available in the vicinity.
The cottage is 300 metres from Polurrian Beach and the coastal path. 15 minutes to the west Poldhu Beach has a bustling cafe serving refreshments all day and they also rent wet-suits if needed to enjoy the excellent surfing at this beach. There is a Surf School where guests can book lessons to learn or improve their surfing skills. 10-15 minutes walk-(longer by car!) beyond Poldhu, Gunwalloe and Dollar beaches are also popular. Mullion Habour is about 20 mins walk to the south. It is aworking harbour and has a spectacular 'walk through' cave to an adjacent beach (low tide only, tide chart provided for guests). There are numerous other beaches and walks within 15 to 30 minutes drive away. Kennack Sands is popular with families and Kynance Cove is one of the most spectacular beaches in Cornwall.
Approximately 1 hours drive from Newquay Airport.
40 minutes drive from Redruth Station.
If you want a rest from driving, there is a bus stop at the end of the lane less than half a mile from the cottage, and of course both on and off road cycling. Some guests only use their car on arrival and departure, some go out exploring the peninsular every day.

Mullion village has a General Store and a Cost Cutter and an excellent Spar shop (open from early morning to late evening). The village also has a Health Centre,Boots Chemist, 2 hairdressers, a beauty salon, an excellent post office, Pasty and Pizza shop, a book shop and a good quality souvenir shop. Sainsbury and Tesco are in Helston about 8 miles away and both will take your order before you leave home and deliver to Cwary Vean for your arrival. There are two pubs (one allows dogs), both do good food. The Galleon serves great fish and chips and The Village Restaurant serves a good variety of dishes. Whilst the village has all you need for your stay without having to get into the car, the peninsular is scattered with great places to eat or visit.
There are many wonderful gardens to visit with Trebah, Glendurgan and The Lost Gardens of Heligan being firm favourites. The Eden project is now world famous and has an 'all weather' appeal.
Many of Cornwall's other attractions are within easy reach. The famous St. Michael's Mount in Marizion has a wonderful castle and gardens and the unique Minack theatre, Cornwall's theatre under the stars, is well worth visiting even if only to look at the Roman like theatre, the views and the exotic plants.
Lizard Peninsular has 5000 acres of nature reserve with a wide range of wild flowers-many of them rare and endangered, a popular venue for botanists and keen gardeners.
There is a wall map of the Lizard peninsular in the cottage and a pocket map of Mullion village to help new guests to get their bearings.
