About Alec Welham
We moved to Long Marston in late spring 2014 to pursue a self-sufficient lifestyle in the country. As avid gardeners we grow as much fruit and veg' as we can fit on the land. We have won many awards for our vegetables including the National Vegetable Society Championships at Harrogate in September 2015 and 2016. We also have hand- reared ducks, chickens and turkeys in our garden.

Why Alec Welham chose York
The Cottage is set in beautiful rural surroundings in the heart of North Yorkshire just 6 miles from the City of York. Built on the historic site of the Battle of Marston Moor with rolling countryside in every direction. The main cottage originally dates back to 1644 and maintains the original charm of this period. Although the self-contained apartment was built as part of an extension centuries later, its features sympathetically reflect the style of the house.
What makes this Apartment unique

Harrogate is just a 25 minute car journey, famous for its Victoria architecture, Roman baths, and Betty’s Tea Rooms. Knaresborough is also just a 15 minute car journey to explore the Castle, Old Mother Shiptons Cave, or take a row boat along the river. Leeds and its famous market is only 30 mins away by car.

Very pleased with the accommodation, good space for us as we are a family of 5, we found it very clean and tidy, it was all the little extra that they thought of that made it very welcoming, would definitely recommend 😊.
Christine and Alex were very welcoming and helpful after a long drive. Fresh eggs available from Christine were a real treat at breakfast time! Property had everything we needed as a family of 3. Christine kindly brought some teddy bear friends and a little wooden chair for our son to play with. The bears were a big hit! We visited the local pub, only a 2 minutes walk away for Sunday dinner when we arrived and sat out in their large garden which was great for our little boy to run around in. The property is located well for exploring York, Harrogate, Scarborough and beyond. We had lots more to see and do but sadly we couldn’t squeeze it all in! We will hopefully be back again soon to explore the area more.
The owners were very welcoming. Really nice area. And we found the property to be in fairly good condition.
Everything we needed, and more.
The property is in a wonderful location, overlooking Marston Moor, within easy reach of York. We slept well although the sofa bed takes a little getting used to. The kitchen had all the equipment we needed. The shower was new and was both warm and reasonably powerful. The place was perfectly clean but there were a few cob-webs to which some might take exception. We had no problems with the wi-fi. Alec and Christine are both lovely - charming, interesting and knowledgeable.
Does what it says on the tin!
Welcoming host, property had everything we needed as a family of 3.
Exactly what we required
Great flat which is close to York, Castle Howard etc plus lovely walks on the doorstep when you don't want to get back into the car. Excellent hosts, good value for money, the accommodation has everything you need made even better by being dog friendly. Thank you
