About Jennifer Ortiz
Paul and Nellafay bought the "old Byington home" to rear their children. Their children are now grown, but through their love, devotion, and hard work, they have restored the home and added a cottage so that others might enjoy the small town they fell in love with and watch grow into one of the premiere vacation destinations in the country. Paul and 'Nell' are elderly now, and we their children live close by and manage the cottage.
Jennifer Ortiz purchased this Cottage in 1969

Awesome. Totally private and zen like.
Loved it. Just missed a kitty and a batch of warm cookies. This place is amazing. Puts you in a different place. Loved it.
Stayed for two nights and enjoyed the cottage and location was great, walking distance to town square. Nice yard in back and front porch. Quiet and comfortable bed! Owner was very accommodating.
The good - location to downtown was excellent. Bed was very comfortable. Heat and air-conditioning was great, once it was explained how to use. Check-in instructions had not been updated to include new system. When we requested a toaster it was left in cottage very quickly. Kitchen then had all we needed.
The Bad - rubber mat in bathtub kept crimping and moving making showering dangerous. No light in long driveway make walking up driveway dangerous. Although there was a place in driveway to park, presence of other car made it impossible to turn around and backing out of driveway into traffic was difficult. Bannister up the steps to entrance was wobbly.
Thank you for staying with us; however, I must respond to your complaints as I found them, to say the least, interesting.
On the front of the remotes for the new heating/air units is a symbol directing one to slide down the cover to reveal the controls. In fact, I showed you how to work the remote.
The toaster didn't magically appear when you asked for one; it lives in the cabinet below the counter where I retrieved it. Our site on VRBO lists a toaster; we've always assumed guests would open the door of the cabinets if it wasn't sitting on the counter. We tend not clutter the counters per our guests request.
You must have used the bath mat incorrectly, perhaps upside down, as there are suction cups that make it almost impossible for me to move after our guests have used it when I clean the bathroom.
There is a street lamp that floods the bottom of the driveway with light; as well, there is a motion light that comes on when one parks. Guests in the past have always left on the front porch light to assist them at night. I am not sure why you were unable to see.
About parking. There are three parking spaces at the top of the "hill," one in front of the cottage for our guests and two more for us. As with most houses in America, or at least in Healdsburg, California, people have to back out of their driveways. With hundreds of guests no one has ever complained.
You mentioned traffic. Our homes reside on the corner of Johnson and Grant in an historic district in Healdsburg, but the traffic is minimal. During this guest's stay I pruned back the bushes on Grant Street in preparing for winter; nine cars used the street in two hours. (I know this because I was using a blower and needed to make sure to move it when a car might drive past.)
The bannister in front of the cottage is a hundred years old; my parents are 82 and 88 years old and they too wobble a bit. However, the bannister is safe.
Very cute cottage in a charming neighborhood!
The cottage was very spacious for two people. Loved the location as it was a short walk to the plaza in Healdsburg. The bed was very comfortable. We did not get to enjoy the cute patio in the garden as there was a light rain most of the time we were there. We would love to come back another time!
Great little cottage!
Grandma’s cottage was so cute! It was so close to the square and great that we could walk to everything. Also only 10 minutes or less to some fantastic vineyards.
It had everything you needed for a short stay and the bed was comfy too!
We would absolutely stay here again!
Location is perfect
Initially we had some issues with cleanliness but these were resolved quite quickly. The decoration can be a little bit too much after a while, but if like us you are not in the house very much it is bearable. It is definitely the location that scores the marks on this place.
We received a call on the fourth day that the tops of some of the framed artwork was dusty; the frames are dusted regularly...perhaps one was overlooked.
As far as the décor is concerned; in actuality, most of the decoration on the tables has been removed. If you don't enjoy the artwork, which is plainly visible in the photographs, please don't rent the cottage.
Besides the photographs, the name, Grandma's Victorian Cottage, provides clues of what the inside of our rental looks like. It's definitely not mid-century modern.
You are correct to mention our location, but you failed to mentioned the historical gardens, off-street parking, three outdoor living spaces, and what the inside of the cottage has to offer.
NO Smoking allowed. No pets. Off-street parking in front of cottage.
